I may be wrong but I believe they do not consider all of the DFW metroplex when they do their lists. Anyone else no more about that?

Your right..they draw a line at about DFW Airport and include the Desoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, and everything to the East is excluded.

I wonder why they do that? it makes their list obsolete.

correct, they are more focused on districts that include tarrant county teams,
but after its all said and done their top 3 picks will finish the regular season
the top 3 in the whole dfw metroplex, but not in that order, imo...

Would that mean Highland Park is out of their realm?

They also go further west and pick up some teams that DMN doesn't. It doesn't affect 5A, but in 4A & 3A their #1's are Stephenville and Decatuer that won't show up in the DMN list........

Correct! But, they do cover teams like Carrollton Ranchview, Dallas Madison, and Dallas Roosevelt. But, the reason for that, is because those 3 teams are in a district with mostly Tarrant County schools.

No, it is simply their subjective rankings of schools' football teams in their area of coverage and primary readership. They make no claim that it is a metromess ranking, much less a state ranking. Take it for what it is.

I think they do it to give more schools coverage that the DMN doesnt give. The DMN moslty focuses on schools right around Dallas county. schools like Grapevine dont get much press in the DMN but are covered very well in the telegram.

I stated that because it seems as if they pick and choose what schools in Dallas they want to use. For example Desoto is further East than Carter High School.

Of course, you are also free to disagree with it. Lord knows many of us are frequently in disagreement with the startlegram, editorially and otherwise.

But, they have their party too.

They cover the districts that the Tarrant county schools are in, currently 4, 5, 7 & 8-5A. They wouldn't include Desoto or any of the Dallas county schools if they were in 10-5A rather than 8-5A for example.

Conversely, in the past they have included schools like Coppell and the LISD schools when SLC played in 7-5A in 2002-03. Those schools are not in their rankings now......

yeah, if 6a becomes a reality. and abilene is in with w-ford and granbury, they'll be ranked by tstg.

they usually include the southern denton cty schools in their polls, if not their general sports coverage. i can't remember what other teams were in 6-4a. justin nw and birdville and bridgeport are all considered fw schools.

it's interesting to note that FWST doesn't rank Denton Ryan in 4A anymore because of that district they play in now; whereas they had them ranked the whole time they were in 5-5A..............

hp was in the fwst poll back in the late 90's when they were in with slc. seems like a wierd district now that i think of it. seems mckinney was in there too. man, those were some bad metromess drives.

Those 4-A districts were strange back then. Of course we'd probably find ourselves in that district with DR, WF, Sherman & Dension if we were 4A now......

I'd be willing to bet that the UIL has the hardest time of all with the 4A realignments in and around the metromess. With the grow in all directions there are hardly any schools that they can count on to be 4A every two years.....HP, of course, being the one constant. :D

At the time, District 6-4A was Hebron, Denton, Denton Ryan, Birdville, Justin NW, Azle, Richland and Frisco.

That's because DeSoto is in a district with the Arlington schools.
