Remember both of these Clips were from their JR years and McElroy's highlights made up of less than 80 plays.

During the 7 on 7 championships this summer I thought Ponders looked better than McElroy. I think Ponders’ mechanics are a little better than McElroy’s. I also noticed that McElroy has a tendency to stare down his receivers.

Ponder has a full year of varsity starting QB experience on McElroy, so that's probably why he's a little sharper in his reads. Both players are very good HS QBs, and should get an opportunity to showcase their skills on the next level.
From a pure college prospect point of view, I think Ponder is the better of the two but time will tell on that.

I guess we will see this Friday night.......!!!!
I was reading some old StudentSports.com stuff on the Nike/Elite 11 camp that was at TCU last summer and they ranked McElroy ahead of Ponder.....

Ft. Worth NIKE Camp: Top players by position
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brian Stumpf
StudentSportsFootball.com Recruiting Analyst
Over 315 players from nine states gathered on April 23rd to learn and compete at the NIKE Camp in Fort Worth, Texas.
Here is a look at the best-of-the-best at each position on the defensive side of the ball, based upon performance in position drills, one-on-ones, position coaches' feedback and testing performance.
--FORT WORTH NIKE CAMP POSITION-BY-POSITION REVIEW--
QUARTERBACKS:
Greg McElroy
Greg McElroy (Carroll, Southlake TX)
6-2, 212 lbs, 4.86 40, 19 reps, 28.3 VJ, 4.28 shuttle, 68.51 SPARQ
Rose to the top of a deep and very even group of quarterbacks Saturday with a consistently accurate performance. Can make all the throws with above average arm strength and is pretty sound technically despite lack of playing time. A committed player who has worked very hard to make himself into a very viable prospect despite sitting behind Missouri-signee Chase Daniel a year ago. Threw for 208 yards and two scores as a junior in mopup duty. Likes Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Stanford and Oklahoma State and already has offers from Kansas and UTEP. 3.9 GPA
Nick Stephens (Flower Mound TX)
6-3, 195 lbs, 5.01 40, 12 reps, 30.0 VJ, 4.44 shuttle, 62.70 SPARQ
Big-time sleeper who emerged with a very solid showing in Fort Worth. Was ineligible as a junior after transferring from Flower Mound Marcus to Flower Mound, but has a lot of tools that should help him have a big senior season. Had one of the camp's strongest, if not the strongest arm, and absolutely can zip balls to the sideline with accuracy. Needs some work technically in taking good drops and not resetting when he shouldn't, but has a lot of upside. Likes Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Arizona State. 3.0 GPA and 1520 SAT (new).
Sherrod Harris
Sherrod Harris (Bowie, Arlington TX)
6-2, 206 lbs, 29.3 VJ
Very personable athlete who is a natural leader and has great charisma. Has above average athleticism and the type of agility necessary to escape from the pocket when he needs to. Has a pretty consistent delivery and is accurate on short throws but sometimes seems to be aiming the ball rather than cutting it loose and doesn't throw with great arm strength. Had subpar numbers on a bad team last fall, hitting 98 of 227 passes for 964 yards with four TDs and nine interceptions while also rushing for 413 yards and five scores. Was much better as a sophomore, throwing for 1,400 yards and 15 TDs with just four interceptions. Likes Texas, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and Florida State and all have offered except the Seminoles. 4.2 GPA and 1310 SAT (old).
Clark Harrell (Ennis TX)
6-2, 189 lbs, 4.75 40, 19 reps, 28.4 VJ
A third good-looking QB prospect who has limited field experience but some very good tools. The younger brother of former record-setting Ennis QB Graham Harrell, who's currently a RS-freshman at Texas Tech. Missed his junior season with a broken foot, but is all healed now and tested well at the camp. Is a better prospect physically than his brother, as he's bigger, more athletic and possesses a stronger arm, but currently lacks the touch and field sense that made his brother such a player due to lack of field time. Should have a big senior season at Ennis. Likes Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Purdue and Louisiana Tech. 94.1 GPA and 22 ACT.
Christian Ponder (Heritage, Colleyville TX)
6-2, 202 lbs, 4.77 40, 15 reps, 30.4 VJ, 4.06 shuttle, 72.25 SPARQ
A well-built, thick athlete with a good attitude. Tested very well and is a better athlete than he may appear on film. Has a live arm and can make all the throws but was inconsistent with his accuracy and spin at times. Has some upside to him and like the rest of the top five, is pretty interchangeable in that on a good day he'd be No. 1. Hit 98 of 182 passes for 1,455 yards and also rushed for 317 yards as a junior. Likes Notre Dame, FSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and NC State and has offers from North Carolina, Baylor, TCU and Georgia Tech. 4.8 GPA.
Others who impressed:
-Ross Jenkins (Langham Creek, Houston TX) - 6-3, 186 lbs, 4.69 40, 8 reps, 4.00 shuttle
-J.P. Tillman (Cy Falls, Houston TX) - 6-2.5, 223 lbs, 11 reps
-Josh Edge (Lytle TX) * 6-4, 191 lbs, 5.00 40, 4 reps, 23.0 VJ, 4.59 shuttle, 42.71 SPARQ
-Joe Mauro (L.D. Bell, Hurst TX) - 6-4, 199 lbs, 9 reps, 4.47 shuttle
-James Thomas (Fort Bend Marshall, Missouri City TX) * 5-10, 175 lbs, 4.68 40, 11 reps, 34.4 VJ, 4.34 shuttle, 73.92 SPARQ
-Tyler Beatty (Pflugerville TX) * 6-3, 187 lbs, 4.89 40, 7 reps, 27.8 VJ, 4.53 shuttle, 54.74 SPARQ
Also should note that McElroy said in a recent story in the FWST that him and Ponder are very good friends and worked out several times over the summer......

I think they are two completley different qbs -- Ponder is a really having a great year showcasing his talent as possibly one of the best dual threat qb's in the state -- while Mcelroy is a very good pure pocket passer --

No offense to him, but GPAs these days are inflated due to many, many factors. In some schools you have to have a 4.0 in order to be in the top 15%.
The 1520 SAT score made me go woah though.

1520 on the new SAT is deff. not something to brag about. 1310 on the old one however is real impressive. McElroy is a smart kid though.
