How about the lack of balance on the NS offense. No passing threat. Plus NS doesn't have the secondary to contain that potent passing attack that SLC brings to the table. Sorry DaSho but Reid does not impress me enough with his arm to win this game. Plus the D-Line was a little undersized DE Bocard was like only 205 and he was the best D-Lineman that year. Plus Bug would have had a hard enough time covering them WR's.

1. 2004 SLC (The new age of Football would have prevailed)
2. 1985 Yates (That defensive was lights out against the run)
3. 2003 Katy (Garland would have had a hard time running the ball)
4. 1998 Lee (Are you seriouse Benson Benson Benson)
5. 1973 TJT (Ole Earl and company)
6. 1980 Permian (There in there glory days)
7. 1989 Permian (Still in there glory days)
8. 1994 Plano (I remember when they beat Lufkin that year)
9. 1996 Lewisville (The Farmers were clutch that season)
10. 1997 Katy (Katy was stacked that season they shut down Talley)
11. 1994 TJT (David Warren enough said)
12. Toss Up
13. Not sure
14. 2000 Katy (Duncanville was not that impressive)
15. 2001 Lufkin (Reggie Reggie Reggie Reggie)
16. 2002 SLC (Offense was too Potent)
Overall
1994 John Tyler Lions- There were just to athletic from all cylinders. Defense was led by the great David Warren. Im not sure if the 2002 SLC team would have wanted to see them.

ur right.. they just dominated everyone in every aspect.. defense was lights out.. offense was unstoppable, and it showed throughout the entire season... and if you look at the numbers they put up.... you might want to check the offensive balance again...as well as the defensive numbers.. undersized maybe but by no means less talent... and as far as defense being undersized and not talented enough.. obviously you werent watching the same team we saw all year..
i would be willing to be that even drew kelson and his lamar redskins would have come close to knocking off SLC
but then again.... its all opinion..... so its respected

There is no dout that 2003 NS was one of the best teams ever im not taking that away from them. Im not saying they could not have beaten the 2002 SLC Dragons. I just wished I could have seen more Balance from NS. I wish coach Aymond would have opened the playbook up more and let Reid take some shots down field more to T-Bird. The only real weakness I see was that the defense yet very talented, but undersized. SLC had a massive O-Line they just could have worn them down. This game would have been a dog fight no dout tho.

I have my opinions and others are entitled to there's ill tell you why I picked who I did
As for 2004 vs. 1988
I’m talking full roster D carter was one helluva team I’m not talking cause I’ve seen the FNL movie I’m talking about old school footage they were tough on both sides of the ball and so was SLC but SLC had a lot of close games in 2004 as did 1988 cowboy's, Carter had speed + power combined in a good sense most teams either have tremendous amount’s of speed, or just a strong D they had both.
Fun fact about 1988 carter cowboys the player that was considered ineligible was considered that at the time cause he transferred from his math Class to a remedial suitable math for him, a lot of times teachers will do this cause they recommend it so you can get your credit and pass to me, he was never ineligible. He wanted to transfer out of his math class that gave him so he could pass his class, lots of people done it, but then again rules for school were different between now and then though.
And for the 2003 NS team vs. SLC 2002 NS was a powerful team the best I’ve seen to date, they beat a lot of talented teams and went into the hardest Division that year which consisted of Arlington Lamar, Tyler lee, (Temple) <--- actually good that year The Woodland's, and those were all very talented teams that year. Though the woodland's had the harder road to state they still beat all these team's by close margin's, North Shore just completely obliterated any one and every one that year, I mean you could have taken any team Lufkin long view SLC Katy and put them against Ns and they would have fallen to NS. Beside most people would have to agree with me on this when you see topics about greatest team ever 2003 North shore and 1985 Yates are the most brought up teams.
Come on Cedric vs reggie. Yes they are both talented players id take benson over reggie he took his team to state 3 times should have been at the west lake game crowded and packed, Beside benson was more reliable

Although Southlake Carroll had outstanding teams and with probably the best coach in Texas, Carter and North Shore were JUST OUTRIGHT Athletically sound at every position. North Shore was alot like that 75 Yates team NO weak Links! Carter was just stacked with speed. Yes this would been an interesting match-up with Carroll but the edge goes to CARTER AND NORTHSHORE.
Strongest 2 team built on pure strength that I've seen are YATES and Northshore - They just lined and ran straight at you - stop us if you can attitude!
You have to give the real 1988 STATE CHAMPS Dallas Carter some credit...

Everyone knew what play Ns was going to run but still couldn't do anything to stop them. And the defense was unrelentless. With the exception of Lamar, 75% of the points given up were by the backups.

No way could have the 2000 Midland Lee rebels beat the 2001 Lufkin Panthers. Reggie McNeal was 2 great of a player. Our defense featured to 300lb DT's and LB's that were rock solid. And a secondary led by All-State DB Carlus Anders. All Lee had was Benson. We would have done him just like West Monroe did him shut him down and whip Lee. They lost that game 30-8.
Sorry no Contest we had 9 players off that team go D 1A. To Midland Lee's 2 or 3. (Winston,Benson)

"2000 Katy"
Goodluck! And, play nice...if you can! :D
ill respond to the teams i saw play.
2004 Carroll, defense was underrated and they had the team concept down.
85 Yates- to much size and speed for Judson
2003 Katy- James Ashton was one tough player, they had a much better defense than the 99 Katy team.
97 La Marque- could play with anyone, that defense with Roylin Bradley was stout.
1987 Plano- only becuase the Wildcats have Permians number.
1992 Judson- would not even be close, 94 Plano would not be able to stop Douglus.
1996 Lewisville- Marcus had a great team in 97, but I believe out 96 team was one of the best teams to ever grace the field in 5A football, our option attack was probably the greatest option team in the history of Texas HS football and we had a very good defense (minus the state championship)
1994 John Tyler- Marc Broyles and Morris Anderson would be to much for the mavericks, they were physical and fast, would have been to much for Marshall.
1997 Katy- one of those forgotten great teams, they had the ball control and the defense to stop Westlake
2000 Katy- Terrance Dean and Jeremy Hurd were a great tandom for Duncanville, their defense was prone to the big play and had a tough time stopping a physical o-line, I think Katy would win this one by 2 TD's.
2001 Lufkin- the better game would have been 98 or 99 Lee, the 2000 version of Lee was not a great football team, and I think Reggie McNeil and Ju Parks would have walked over Midland Lee.
2003 North Shore- the Shroe defense had what it took to stop Carroll, they were strong at all posistions and would have been able to get presure on Wasson and contain Luna, I think the DB's would have been very physical with the Carroll wide-outs and throwing them off their routes. Bobby Reid and company were pretty good at moving the football to, I dont know to many teams that would have been able to move the football that well on Shore.
1979 Temple was lucky to get by Lewisville in the semis that year, we lost 3-0, led in penetrations and had two bad snaps while attempting a field goal, had we converted on one of those field goals, we would have been state champs that year, that said. PNG in 75 would have beaten Temple.

98 Lee vs 01 Lufkin would have produced what winner? There are many people, on here, who have said Shore's 03' defense wasn't that great! "They were undersized and not very disciplined!"...is what one person said!

I think 98 Lee would have won, they were balanced on offense and had a strong defense, Jon Rodgers, Clint McNutt, and Cedric Benson were a great backfield. Rodgers set school passing records for yards and TD's as a junior, and both McNutt and Benson were 1000 yard rushers.
The shore defense was very good in 2003, just look at what they did all year, watch the state title game agaisnt The Woodlands and you will see how they shut down a pretty good offensive team. Whoever said they were not a great defense is misinformed.

You have to remember 03 Shore did not need to rely on the passing game.
They had the ground game going and why pass when you can run over people? As for their D-line being small, they finished the season number one in defense and offense. The d averaged 6.9 points per game through the whole season including playoffs. Someone mentioned Bug not being able to cover receivers from 2002 SLC but he did a good job covering one of the best in the state- Amendola. Don't forget Drew Kelson from Lamar being limited against
Shore. I would put that team up against anyone, even the 85 Yates Lions.

ur right.. they just dominated everyone in every aspect.. defense was lights out.. offense was unstoppable, and it showed throughout the entire season... and if you look at the numbers they put up.... you might want to check the offensive balance again...as well as the defensive numbers.. undersized maybe but by no means less talent... and as far as defense being undersized and not talented enough.. obviously you werent watching the same team we saw all year..
i would be willing to be that even drew kelson and his lamar redskins would have come close to knocking off SLC
but then again.... its all opinion..... so its respected
I agree with the Lamar statement. They were the only team to score more than 7 points on Shore that year. I think they would have beat SLC and probably Katy also. Lamar was tough.

98 Lee vs 01 Lufkin would have produced what winner? There are many people, on here, who have said Shore's 03' defense wasn't that great! "They were undersized and not very disciplined!"...is what one person said!
Your opinion?!
If the 03 Northshore defense was undersized and undisciplined then that is what I want for my defense all day long. I watched that title game in person and in my opinion NS just toyed with the Woodlands all day and still dominated them. I was too young to remember 85 Yates or 88 Carter, but I would put 03 Northshore against any team anywhere and feel good about it.

Well said Fleeman. The score could have been much higher. I know first hand a ref in that game said he blew some calls against NS. TWHS beat some good teams on the way to that game and could not move the ball. They were held to 54 yards the first half.

That is what Plano had with their 87 National Championship team.Steve Needham engineering the option behind that mammoth offensive line. We dare you to stop it,and nobody could. The epitome of Tom Kimbrough football.

I think the '85 Yates team beats them all. I'm still convinced that is the best high school football team I have ever seen.

Another matchup to consider would be 1973 Earl Campbell led Tyler John Tyler vs. 1988 Dallas Carter.Would like to see what kind of damage The Tyler Rose would do to that defense.

Good stuff Mr. OnE, My Opinions are unfair because I actually saw some of these teams PLAY:D
#2 We would have rather seen a Game vs 99 Midalnd lee. Benson was never HIT like he would have been vs Garland.
#17 It has been said (by someone involved) that the 55 team that lost the championship game to Port Neches in the last seconds, was 30 points better than the 56 team that won the championship vs Bum Phillips and Nederland.
The person that said that was an assistant coach for both years and now has a stadium named after him;)
So with the same coaches and players there would be no question about 55 Garland vs 57 HP
In 54, mostly the same team of 55 lost a close PO game to the BEST team in Texas of the 50s, Brekenridge, ask the W.Falls team and the Legends of Abilene
#19 The Garland coach for the back to back championship years of 63 and 64 was Chuck Curtis. He had won a title at Jacksboro in 62. The story is that he was offered Permian for 65 and a chance to go for four in a row. South Garland had opened and talent was split (most isd.s opened new schools with growth, some did noT!). Chuck chose to take the OC job at SMU.
So... with Curtis as Coach the 64 (or 63) Garland Owls would have won vs any 65 team.
The 64 Gelena Park team would win over the 65 Permian team!
Also, the 06 Garland team or the 06 C.Hill team (close) would have played the 06 SLC team very well. Saw all of them play,
Keep up the good work... good off season stuff!

Have no clue about a thread from 2005! Also, I'm not a NS fan when we play, but I've seen their freshamn & sophs...ouch...along with their returners...
And we have to play them...LP's defense was state ranked in 2010 and should be as good in 2011, but NS is looking good...
