I happen to be one of those folks who think that all of North Carolina is gogeous except for most of FayettNAM (Fayetteville/Fort Bragg) and the 30 feet on either side of I-95. I've driven that one (or a hundred) too many times.

My alma mater did pretty good didn't they? The coaching staff has Texan roots in Jerry Moore. He is from Bonham.
ASU is actually the third largest public school in NC behind UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State. It is the NC equivalent of Texas State here. It is called a state university because it is part of the University of North Carolina system. It was a small teachers' school as early as the mid 90s, but it's grown a lot in the last 10 years.

Cajun, you get the goldest of gold stars for calling this one. Can you imagine the odds you could have gotten in Vegas for betting this one straight up?
However, I gotta tell you, App State would beat a LOT of teams in the top twenty -- they are THAT good.

If Appalachian State lose next week to Lenoir-Rhyne they may vote Michigan out of the Big 10...(lol)
Only thing is they have to kick out the Minnesota Golden Gophers who lost to Bowling Green today 32-31..
Not a great day for the Big 10....
You are right about Appalachian State...They could beat alot of big name schools...Alot of talent on that team..Alot of team speed...
I really had no idea Appalachian State would actually win..I did think it would be closer than people thought...
Appalachian State gave us a good game in 2005 if you remember...We finally won 24-0...Wasn't pretty!...Auburn beat Appalachian State 15-7 in 2000 or 1999, I forget...They can play...I think people will think twice before scheduling them as a first game gimma...

All I have to add is this....
If I am doing the scheduling, I would much, much rather play lower tier division bowl division teams than a top tier Championship division team. Some folks seem to have the idea that championship ball is automatically worse than bowl football. Not the case. With the new rules, all that you have to do if you really, really want to be bowl division is averge 15,000 fans for home games (in actual or paid attendace) every two years and be willing to spend the big bucks cash.
The better championship division teams average more fans and have better athletes on the field than programs like FIU, Temple, Buffalo, etc. Not to mention that teams like App. State come in with a winner's attitude.
That's not to say that Michigan shouldn't have mopped the floor with them. Still, Appalachian State could stay on the field with lots and lots of major programs.

You're kidding right? Regardless of what any other team last year, or last week, this is the biggest upset in college football history. I don't care how good Apple state might actually be, it is a 1AA (or whatever it's called now) team going INTO THE BIGHOUSE and beating a Michigan team that had legit national title hopes before the season started. And it's not like App state played flawless football, they made plenty of mistakes to let Michigan right back in the game. IMO hands down the biggest upset in college football history.

Normy Hitzges has a Monday Top 10 poll, based on what teams have actually done thruout the season rather than influenced by preseason rankings. He had California # 3, for instance, as a result of their showing against Tennessee.
His number # 1 team for this past week ? Appalachian St., of course.;)
