You guys just keep safe out there. It is too hot to walk in much less run. Every year we hear about fatalities in football camps...let's try not to hear of any this year. Just keep hydrated!!

cfmom,
I was out there this morning. We've got two adult professional trainers stalking the practice field the entire time. Plus the coaches are all very aware. No matter how much you do though, you just have to be very careful.
What I worry about is the kids that are chugging energy drinks before they get out on the field. All that caffiene is a bad idea.

Let's hope ALL football coaches and trainers are looking out for heat issues. Rockwall freshman start today (freshman only do 1-a-days) from 4-6:30 today. My son has stated away from energy drinks, and sodas for the last week and drinking nothing but water.

I'm glad that crap wasn't out there when we played. i can't imagine pumping up on caffeine to make it through practice:confused: .
Nothing beats straight up water, with some sports drink mixed in after about an hour of workouts.
I always mixed the Gatorade half and half with dihydrogen Monoxide. it always gave me a boost!

or... you probably need a beer?:D
I do know that we used to have these urine strip things posted by the toilets a while back at a fire house I was at. It basically looked like a little pool indicator. If your urine was >>> color, you need to drink >>>> oz. of water. It had basically no color and then various shades of yellow getting darker. Very graphic indicator of your water consumption.
Ha! After a little PM investigation, it turns out that I coached Tigerdback083 in 5th grade. Even back then we were preaching HYDRATE! At least I'm consistent. Good luck this season Tigerdback083!

Thankfully - both of our sessions are in the AM this year, we are done by 12:30. Our heat is brutal and we don't even have the humidity you guys are battling in the north and east. I saw on the national news that Dallas is expecting 106 today. Here's to no heat related incidents this year!!
I know all you players know it and hear it from your coaches and trainers - but don't just load up on water right before practice, during, and right after. You need to be drinking water the entire time you are awake. Dehydration can be created over several days of poor hydration. Be careful out there guys!!

Thanks! :D
In recent seasons our coaching/training staff has really done a great job of making sure we are staying hydrated. We have even had nutritionists come and talk to us about proper hydration. One thing I hate is seeing people drink cokes right before workouts. All I've drank for the past 5 years is water, milk, o.j., and gatorade and its helped out a ton. Carbonated drinks just kill you

When my brother played, they did have their second practice from 10:00 PM to midnight. I hated it because he would wake me up when he got home to fix him breakfast which usually consisted of 1 lb of bacon and a half doz eggs. :puke

Consol has had so many kids come out for football, the coaches had to have the sophomores come out at a different time for their two-a-days. That's a good problem to have I guess. The coaches are now on the field about 8 hours a day right now this week and next. I guess we need to make sure we keep those coaches hydrated as well.

i mean the heat sucks...but i think it's a dumb idea to practice at night. especially since the season practices are in the middle of the day. our practic time is 7:30 to around 2:30, with a break in between of course. but c'mon folks...its two a days! supposed to be hot, and hard!

At least it is different than when I was at Tyler Lee in the late 1970s; HOT AND NO WATER; lots of cotton-mouth!

CP does that at least the football team. Everyone practices from 730 until 9am then they come in and cool off. The JV Blue and Varsity lift and meet, and then go home. The Frosh and JV Silver go back out at 10 and practice until 1130 and then go home for the day. JV Blue and Varsity come back at 6pm and go until 8. That is what the week is basicly. The only difference is tomorrow when everybody is done at 1130 am and then they have "Meet the players night" at 730. As for the band the practice in the morning in a shaded area of the FOTW parking lot until about 1130 after that I couldnt tell you.
