Big Surprise in District 3-5A with Permian only loseing one game sofare, and Midland high, Cooper high, and Odessa high having really good non district seasons. And surpriseingly Midland Lee off to a rocky start in non district play. And of course the most not of a surprise is Abilene High ahead at a perfect 5-0. And after a big win over Rockhurst and a bye week comeing up, who knows what district play will be like.

Midland Lee played two of the top 5 toughest teams in the state. Just thought I might add that.

When will Odessa learn their lesson? They play crap teams in non-district every year and get blown away in 3-5A. Big Spring and Andrews don't need to be on their schedule.

My predicted finish for 3-5A

1. Abilene High
2. Abilene Cooper
3. Midland High
4. Odessa Permian
5. Midland Lee
6. Odessa

AHS looks like the strongest team all-around at this point, and should be the favorite to win district. After that, you can almost pick the other two playoff teams from a hat. Odessa's really the only team I'd "eliminate." Midland High and Lee aren't playing great defense, but I give the edge to the Dawgs between those two. MHS-Cooper will be an entertaining game for second place in my opinion. I like Cooper's balanced offense and improving defense to win them a playoff spot.

Permian's defense is playing pretty well, but I'm not sure if the offense is good enough to help get them in the playoffs yet. I think Permian will be a strong contender for a playoff spot next year though. This year, I think Permian makes Midland Lee their signature win of the season at Ratliff.

I don't think the separation is nearly as big between the teams in 3-5A this year as there was between AHS and everyone else last year; however, I still believe that the Eagles are the team to beat.

That's a petty good analisys. I wouldn't just discount OHS for the simple fact that they probably returned the most experienced team in the district. Those guys were really young last year and I said at the beginning of the season they would be my darkhorse and I still stand by that. I like their chances just as much as anyone else in the district. They don't seem to be making the mistakes that got them beat last year. But you are right the gap between AHS and the rest of the district is definitely closing. Only time will tell.

I think we'll find out a lot today for OHS and all teams, as grades come out.
