Hotels.com should help you screen for hotels near SMU (http://www.hotels.com/processSearch.do?destination=9EC71F54-3DBC-4901-8C8A-9C9C85F5D42D%7C29B8F459-A0F5-4687-BB64-7651BD1E3AB5%7CDallas%2C+TX%2C+USA%7C1&paging=1&sortBy=PROXIMITY&searchID=AC102643-9615-8191-1442-158443E91DB3&searchMtmPropertySupplierId=&addressID=&searchType=&usertypedcity=Dallas&chooseAlternateDestination=false&propertyIdsToCompareString=&mtnHotelID=&numrooms=1&roomOccupancyString=1%7C%7C2%7C0%7C0&hotelName=&priceRangeKey=1&newLandmarkDestID=40EF2E04-BE4A-448A-BE95-A033B16AF0C9&allPropertyTypesSelected=on&pageNumber=1&numProperties=25&inout=&CIMonth=9&CIDay=14&CIYear=2007&COMonth=9&CODay=16&COYear=2007), but don't count on anything close being anywhere near as cheap as you are hoping. It's Highland Park, for goodness sake.

The closest one we found (corner of 75 and Mockingbird I think) was Days Inn. Not one that I would recommend. Some of them are nice and new - this one ain't!

I always stay at the Radisson across the highway from SMU, but you aren't getting that for under $60. I have stayed at a nice Fairfield Inn in Addison before. It was up near Midway and Spring Valley just North of LBJ. Probably 20 minutes tops from the stadium and you can get it for $55 or so.

there are a few hotels on the freeway about 5 minutes drive from smu...depending on the traffic...there is a marriott-complex about a mile north of smu that my parents stay at when we visit dallas/smu...hotels.com is good...but sometimes they don't list everything

You can valet your car at the Adolphus Hotel, I think they only charge $27 per day.

If you know the secret handshake, there are usually couches at the SMU frat houses that won't cost you a dime.
