26-5A Fans,

After reading up on the results from the first week of district play, I just want to say I hope yall have access to some good sedatives! If every week is going to be like that, wow. It looks like the race is going to be more than just a battle for third place after all.

Well, after the game you know your heart works pretty well after all the pumping it does.

But it's all fun. Even though you don't win'em all....maybe not even some. Hopefully this year'll be different. But it is a fun district nevertheless....

Yes, it is a very fun district. I am worried that next year will see a 26-5A without Judson. Or it will be NEISD(MacArthur, Madison, Roosevelt, Churchill, Lee, Reagan) vs JISD(Judson, Wagner).

I can see something like that. I would like to see Lee move to a district where they can have a chance....course who would Mac beat!...ah, I'm sorry..that was mean. I wanna see another tough 26-5A but reshuffled a bit.

I hope that does not happen. 26-5a would not be the same without the Rockets in it. I hope that they pull out SV and insert Wagner to keep this district going with two JISD schools!!!!

Yeah, that would be logical though....and Reagan needs at least SOME tough competition in basketball :p ....and with SV gone, we could dominate in baseball as well!

give Wagner just 2-3 years in varsity competition, then NEISD will not want to play them either. Wagner will have a bigger enrollment than Judson within 4-6 years.

Just imagine if SV & Roosevelt win this week putting the district in a six way tie for second

Reaganrattler07

Yeah, Wagner will probably have a good team in a few years.

As I remember 26-5a last year after week 3, everyone was practically in their "determined" spots that would eventually finish.

Yeah, there may be a battle for 2nd place! :D It reminds me of the time Larry Bird walked into the arena for the 3-point contest and said, "Who's fighting for 2nd place?"

26-5A is a battle week in and out, If JISD is put into another district it could hurt them because they would not be playing in the toughest district in the state. I think that depends on SV, Hays, and Clemens because they will most likely drop to 4A with new schools coming on-line. JISD could be placed in with SAISD, EC, Clemens, SW, and Seguin. The other case scenario is to bring the Austin Schools back to region 4 and place JISD with Austin like they had done in the past with Seguin and San Marcos.

ha ha ha, you so funny....riiight.....I am the drumline captain and as far as the SV band being louder or better i couldn't care less because i know my drumline can destroy theirs and thats what matters to me. Now for the comment of being afraid of the valley....right...im not a football player so if they lose i dont care that much. My whole point for wanting wagner was to keep JISD in our district. So if i was afraid of the valley why would i want Judson to stay in the district along with bringing wagner in which in a few years will probably be better than judson. Oh and on another point....in reference to band forums....are the only people who should be on here are football players? So should football forums not have comments from fans, band members, parents, members of spirit groups, or even athletes of other sports? If u took all but the football players out of this forum i dont think it would be much of a forum now would it.

Well let's see, it start as a discussion of the 265 and degenerated into ragging on high school kids who are in band. Being a adult, I guess I have nothing to add (about high kids in the band).

A little uptight about the band thing aren't we. I s the drumline the upper end of the band> I just want to hear comments from people with a knowledge of football. No not only football players should be on this forum. Coaches, players, ex-players, and generally just people who have played the sport. :)

Yes this is a baised comment...and i will stand by it. I mean no offense to SV drummers but i have personally sat right by them and listened to them and seen their technique....and im not saying my drumline is the best in the state by any means....in fact i am dissappointed by the playing ability of the younger drummers.......but moving along.....i do not bring up band...i talk about football. I beleive you and bubbacoach were the ones who started talking about band...and im not one of the people who runs their mouth off on this forum saying "Our team is the best in the state" or "your team sucks".

Organize it with your band director and we will pretend to look surprised. If your principal or band director talks to Dr. Marcus Nelson (JISD’s number 2 person) he will make it happen.

I'm in the Air Force and have always rooted for teams close to military bases. As a kid, I was somewhat of a Judson fan from a distance. When I got orders to Randolph, I said I would live in Converse and go to all the Judson games. Even though I live in Wichita Falls now, I still have to come to San Antonio and would've been at the Cove game and the SV game this week if I didn't have to deploy. I had it all set up to see the Roosevelt and Madison games, but was going to have to make a special trip to come back for Clemens.

When I lived there, I loved sitting at the Alamodome and watching the tripleheaders in the playoffs. I saw almost every sport in San Antonio including the Alamo Bowl, Spurs playoff games, and Final Four.

That is cool. I really respect what you and all your brothers in the military do to keep this country free. I do talk some BS, not alot, but you help to give and protect that right for me. I do have a very formal knowledge of San Antonio football that I would share on a more regular basis, but I do not want to get to technical for anyone. I do give good information some of the time and the rest of the time I am just messing with people.

I'm kinda in the middle on that one. I don't mind it, but this board has a lot of criers, too. I had a lot of people mad at me all year last year because I didn't fall down and worship their team and I was being mean because I said something that was taken to be a slam against them. I like all the trash talking and back and forth stuff, but it doesn't let you stay here long. I got warned a couple times for stuff I said and I never cussed or personally attacked a person. It was always about football stuff. I don't care what people say to me, but not everybody around here is that way. I think most of the young guys take it in stride, though.

It's fine with me. I want to hear what you see as strengths and weaknesses in various teams, especially since I have to miss the whole year. I almost cried 2 days before I left Wichita Falls to deploy to Kyrgyzstan. All the students from Wichita Falls Rider were running on Southwest Parkway behind my house, hollering and honking on their way to the stadium. I had to miss that game to clean my house and finish moving and all the rest since I won't be back until the end of January. :(

I will back off before I get kicked off. Here is a question to leave you with. You are at home, your opponent has the ball 1 and goal at your 8 yard line. You are up by 2, there is 2 minutes left on the clock. The score is 42-40. You have the wind at your back. What are you going to do? Let them score so that you have time to get the ball back or try to keep them from scoring when all they need is a field goal, and you only have 1 time out. The clock is ticking.

You are right about that...there are a lot of panties getting all wadded up!! I like the "Im more mature than that" guys. they are the ones that crack me up. I know I have found myself posting that a commment was not intended to hurt peoples feelings..or some stuff like that..but sometimes I cant help but to get a fire started!! :D

Most of the time, I will say to play defense. A good running team will need more than 2 minutes to drive down the field and you're forced to change your game or be like Judson and always have a burner at WR who can get you a home run. A good passing team can do it, but most teams are better at running. If you play defense, high school teams are always subject to turnovers. Field goal kicking is not an exact science at the high school level and I'd make them earn the 3 points. Your defense has a better chance stopping them from the 8 than further out in the field.

I saw the Packers let the Broncos score in the Super Bowl and they couldn't score themselves, so I say...PLAY DEFENSE!

Hope you dont mind but I would like to insert myself into the discussion......

If the score is 42-40 that means that neither team is playing much D. So the chances of you stopping a team on the goal line are much lower in my opinion then driving the field for a score in the last 2 min. It is non conventional, but I think some coaches get so wrapped up in doing things "by the book".

I say let them score.

It is kind of like when Judson was playing Cove up by 6 with a little over 1 min to play and punting from inside thier own 10. Rackley should have took the safety, thus running more time off of the clock and kicking the ball from the 20 making Cove cover more of the field in less time. But that would not have been the conventional way to play it and we all know what happened.

As long as you stick to SA football, you'll be OK. The SA fans can disagree and not pitch a fit. The fans you can't mess with are Lufkin, Tyler Lee, Longview, SLC, North Shore, and Katy. When you pick on East Texas, you end up fighting all of them. I catch grief from Longview fans even though I say I root for them and have for 27 years!

I say Play D in that spot even if they've scored 40 points. At some point, you've got to rely on your guys to make a stand.

Also, the ability of the opposing kicker and the strength of my kick blocking unit would also play a role. Even so, no way I let them in the endzone in that situation.

Man up and make a play.

I love defense. Let's make a stand, get aggressive, put our hat on the football and try to knock it out (On first down, if they run the ball and we stuff them, I consider using my one timeout.) Same thing on second down, then I check the clock situation and make a decision from there.

I wouldn't even call a timeout. I'd force them to hurry up and eventually kick the field goal. If they did score, it would let you throw a ball over the middle and take a time out or get your FG team on the field if they made it 43-42.

Just make sure your QB and receiver are named Dustin Quinney and Andre Williams and the kicker can relax ;) .

You don't even need a timeout if you have those 2. That home run ball was available all year, but I'm not so sure that Campbell or Fox wouldn't have run it in they'd kept it on the ground. It's still amazing that they could go 76 yards with 17 seconds on the clock.

I think we saw that same play in the same situation in the '93 state game against Plano. They went up on a long pass play with very litle time on the clock and we came back and ran pretty much the same play with the same result. I seem to remember the wide reciever coming more down the center of the field instead of diagonally..

I would have had three (maybe four) guys line up about 30 yards deep in that situation. Max Prevent. At that point in the game, I give Judson all of the underneath stuff they want but refuse to allow anything deep.

I don't think I saw either QB throw a deep pass all year that the receiver wasn't open by at least 5 yards. It's not like they didn't know we had somebody that could fly by them.

I'd put the whole house back there, too. Thanks, Midland! :D

New situation, you are ahead by one point. (21-20) You have the ball on the opponents 35 yard line with with 4 minutes left on the clock. The down is 4th and 5. You can punt it and possibly pin them deep or gain 15 yards with a touchback. The opponent has already blocked one punt and returned it for a touchdown. Or you can go for it and possibly give them the ball at the 35 yard line. The wind is at the opponents back and they have a better than average passing game. What you going to do?

Man I got no problem with soccer what so ever. To be good at soccer you have to be intelligent enough to make decisions on the field. You have to have the endurance to run up to 80 minutes. You have to athletiscm to get up and go when necessary. You have to have great footwork, good balance, shall I go on. Most soccer players, if they are worth a damn, would make good DB's or recievers.

I'm going to go for it. You didn't say we had a great kicker, so I guess a field goal is out of the question. If we get a first down, we might be able to drain the clock if our running game is good. We might get a TD and if we did, they would have to get 8 points on their drive with little time left and it will still be a tie game.

Punting doesn't help too much if we get a touchback. We might pin them, but would make the field shorter by letting them win with a field goal. Everything yard we gain by punting is reduced by how good their FG kicker is and how much less of a drive they need.

the drum people are skinny, if they were fat the drum wouldnt be right in front of them, theres acuttaly not that many "fat" people in band, theres like not many from what i see, maybe 4? 5? which is pretty an extremly low amount for a band our size, our band is in pretty good shape as a whole (athletic wise) when we have saxophone parties we play football and stuff, before football games we usually will play a little football, so i mean most people can run and stuff, a funny qutoe from a flute...
