Right now on NFL Network, they are showing the '94 Bears( with Wannstedt) and the Vikings. Steve Walsh is QB of the Bears. Does anyone else remember how very close this guy was to being the franchise QB for Jimmy Johnson instead of Troy Aikman. I've heard a couple different times that they had already made the decision to trade Troy. That night, every important NFL team called to ask what it would take to get Troy. that is what made the Cowboys decide to keep him. i still wonder what if, sometimes.

I'm glad Jimmy was so paranoid!!!

I thought it was Bernie Kosar who Jimmy wanted to trade Troy for? I get them confused because Jimmy coached both of them (and Vinny) in college, and both won a national championship.

Walsh was on the Cowboys' roster because they selected him first (and gave up their first round draft pick the next year to get him... which ended up being the #1 pick lol), and was then traded to New Orleans for like 3 draft picks. Either way, I'm glad they held on to Troy as well. Kinda funny he played at Oklahoma a year, forcing Switzer to change his offensive system away from the Wishbone until Aikman got hurt and transfered.

I watched some of the game as well, and Steve Walsh had a pencil neck. I'm not a fan of those flat chin straps either. I don't think the Cowboys would have been able to win Super Bowls with Mr. Walsh.

they signed Kosar later as a F/A. the big decision after going 1-15 was which QB to keep...

Right, but they didn't offer Troy for Walsh, they drafted him themselves. It was Kosar who Jimmy would have traded for, and then everyone called him up and said he could have whoever he wanted for Troy.

No, they were both on the Cowboys, and decided thy both couldn't be on the same team so one had to go... Glad they picked the right guy.

Wait, huh? This was earlier on when the Cowboys first got Troy (the same year that Jimmy first came... Landry drafted Troy and Jimmy wanted to trade him for Kosar). Later that year, after the incident with all the teams calling him up, Jimmy drafted Walsh #1 #1 and then later on got Kosar in the 93 season when Troy got hurt.

yes, but there was a time when they couldn't make up their minds if they wanted Aikman or Walsh, as well.

Right. I was talking about in your first post when you said he almost traded Troy. I was just adding that it was Kosar he almost traded it for. After they did that, they had trouble deciding between Walsh and Troy. Jimmy didn't like Troy because he wanted him to go to Oklahoma State (he coached there before Miami) but Troy chose OU instead.
