Answer: Sloan is out for three weeks due to grades (could be four weeks due to Thursday games)..... he will not be injured, and will be ready for Rowlett and playoffs. Blessing in disguise? ;)

Not having Dante against South and North is tough. I don't care how "down" everyone thinks these two teams are - they will be sky high to play GHS, and the Owls will be playing shorthanded. However, no one will feel sorry for them. The team will simply have to overcome adversity.

I've always heard how deep Garland was in talent. They don't have a back that can carry the load while he's gone.

Of course we do... but we dont like to lose star running backs just before district starts...

I know how it feels. But we lost Montgomery for the season due to injury.

Who else is out for the Owls??? Heard rumor there were a few others?? Also heard that there was a "big administrators meeting" concerning this issue?? Come now, give us the goods... The Owls better not be hanging that head when the herd comes a calling.....

The only factor of grades hurting garland is sloan..... i hope this is a reminder to him hes not invincible and hopefully he will play with more drive now. If anyone else did fail it is not a key player.

Oh, I heard there was another player, maybe a big defensive one
that had also failed but got to retake his six weeks test??? Hmmmm, could explain the "meeting" of administrators Monday??? Come on, give me some info........

Good to see that Garland teachers are willing to give the star player a bad grade if he deserves one. That says a lot about the kind of education students recieve at GHS.

Congrats on your grades. More than likely you have somewhere arounda 4.0 GPA, and if thats the case, go out there and make us proud once you graduate in 2008 :D .

Kind of a cold way for someone to treat a sophmore in high school, isn't it. I'm assuming you are an adult, and if you are, you should be an example and show that ALL kids grades count and that we adults DO care.

If you're a kid, grow up.

You Owls are staying away from this one????? Never heard you stay quiet on any subject??? Oh, it must have been put on the "ssssshhhhhhh, let's keep it on the down low"???

Two players are out, a defensive player and the one already named. They will be eligible for the Rowlett game, provided they can get their grades up. Johnny Wooten will get the lions share of carries, with Devin McDowell and several others also sharing the load.

Garland has plenty of depth and will be fine.

I don't think that any of us OWLS are running from anything. The facts are as follows, #1: Sloan failed a class. #2: Sucks for us that he failed. #3: No-one is gonna feel sorry for us (especially us). #4: People are going to think that we are vulnerable now without Sloan (KEEP THINKING THAT WAY). #5: We have talented players that will fill in and do a great job in place of Sloan. #6: I guess now that Sloan is out, when we do win district we might truely have earned it in everyones eyes and get a "little" respect for doing it without our best talent (but then again, most posters on this site don't want to give the OWLS anything that they ever earn).

Thats OK though, it looks like its gonna be a crazy district race. I mean come on, Sachse and Lakeview are leading the race.

Not only is it his fault it is also your teammates fault as well. What we do is the whole team(actually, everyone in their position) knows who else in their position is failing. Then the people in that position force the failing people to attend tutorials, etc., we actually make sure they go, and make sure they are passing. We only had one failure I believe, and even he was pushed by team mates and tried hard but unfortunatley could not pass.

Come on son...I don't know much about this Sachse (pronounced Saxie or Saxy)...but lets get off LC! I'm pretty sure they won't compete in district but it's not their fault NG and SG are tanking.

And Sachse is on a roll! So is Rowlett!

owlfan 1

LC is not the same program that it was when you were a part of it. They have been the bottom feeder for most of the last ten years. However, coach Mills is doing a good job and, I believe, will elevate this program back to prominence.

Another factor for all to consider about LC, especially now that district play has begun: RB Sherrod Borens is back. He missed the entire non district schedule due to injury, but he is back now, and the Patriots looked much better with him running the ball. As with everyone else in this district, no one better sleepwalk into their game with the Patriots or they may find themselves with a nasty lump on their head and a district loss...

GREATONE,
First of all I'm not your son. Secondly, I can understand how my comments could have been taken as degrading towards Sachse and LC. But I assure you they were not meant to be. Sachse (despite who they play in non-district) has played well, as has LC and Rowlett. My point was this, I don't think you'd have found anyone who would have predicted LC or Sachse to be where they are. Now, I don't know why, but it's not as big a surprise to me that Rowlett is playing well as it for the other two. Only thing I can say is that the District Race is up in the air right now. GHS/SG & SG/NG & GHS/NG games will be huge this year. In the past few years those games were to determine #1, #2, #3 in district. This year those games WILL knock one of these 3 teams out of the playoffs (if Rowlett takes care of business the rest of the way).

Hey RR. You were right about how sensitive these owl lovers are. Believe it or not, I agree with their belief that the owl running game will be fine. However, the question still remains: Can they throw the ball well enough to beat the tough teams in the district? I feel good about our Mustangs against Rowlett and South. Rowlett's secondary sux and South's DB's aren't what they used to be. I don't know if the owls can take advantage of this or not. Since we're open this week I'm going to watch South/LC on Thursday and Rowlett/North on Friday. RR, let me know what game(s) you're going to.

Why would a Sachse fan have "owl" in their screen name? Garland in your head a little bit? ;)

Can Garland throw the ball well enough to get past the teams in our district? Yes, I think so. Hunter has progressed light years over the past two games (against pretty stout competition), Malcom Williams has shown himself to be a serious deep threat (not to mention someone who can almost jump out of the stadium), and all of Garland's backs are good pass catchers and route runners. The Owls will never be mistaken for a spread team; their bread and butter is the run. But I believe their passing game is at a level where teams will have to respect it or risk getting burned.

Nice to have you join our forum. The more 11-5A fans, the merrier. Great win against NG...

I'll have to check out the SG/LC and watch the Owls practice against NF, this one will allow for an early night. There will not be much reason to check out the second half!!

I'm glad to see that owlfan1 didn't let me down. He had to take a bite at my screen name that is an obvious dig at his. I heard that the fishing was easy here, but I had no idea that it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Good luck in your scrimmage against Naaman. Y'all may actually complete more than 50% of your passes against them.

I've noticed there's a lot of love/hate in Garland. I'm worried if I pick an allegience (I just moved to the Garland area) that my house might get egged and my tires slashed!

No one on the defensive side of the ball failed. The other kid who failed was a starting offensive lineman.
As for the Owls passing game, it's never going to be what EVERYONE wants it to be. But of course folks were complaining in 1999 that the Owls couldn't win state because they didn't throw the ball very well. But of course in 1999 Keith Mills set/broke school record for catches, and people still complained about not throwing the ball enough. It is what it is. Hunter has played well the last few games and will only get better.

Just trying to be friendly (that's what the smiley face means). I don't see why the fact that you support a different team from mine means we have to be mortal enemies. Have fun with your bye -better believe no one else is gonna take ya'll lightly...

I talked to one of the ladies who had been with the GISD for 30 years or more and is married to an administrator, and she said the other kid, I won't mention his name, was a rotating offensive lineman and won't be missed as much as our opponents hope he will.

GarlandOwl06

OK there is NO defensive player out. The other player on offense is John Stubbs and he will be replaced by Jeremy Kennedy who is almost as big as Buddy and weve been waiting to see him play all year. Also, we have gotten a transfer kid from Port Arthur. A RB/LB who is said to have commited to LSU. Supposedly this kid can play but Im not sure when he will be ready/allowed to play. Cant wait to see. For the mean time Johnny Wooten, Devin, and Dwight will be sharing most of the carries.
