Alright Nixon faithful, here's the thing, i was recently looking at the top blue chip Wide Receiver prospects in Texas and came across several kids that couldnt hold a candle to your Eddie Murillo, I realize it's none of my business, but I would love to see SouthTexas get some recognition. Eddie Murillo is a special kid, he has great speed and quickness, great route running skills and is terrific after the catch, i am currently trying to get as much info on him to get him recruited to a big time college as possible, but only so much can be said with words, remember a picture is worth 1,000 words... if there is anyway, any of ya'll can send some game footage of Murillo to Brad@sunshinepreps.net where they are interested in making a highlight video to be destributed amongst Texas football forums and football sites for the soul purpose of recruitment......again, any help from ya'll will be greatly appreciated.....thanks
again send it to brad@sunshinepreps.net to see your hometown boy put Laredo and the rest of SouthTexas on the map..

FYI: Eddie Murillo WR from Laredo Nixon HS 5'9 165 was named 2nd team all state as a jr. he finished 2004 with 85rec for 1,618yrds and carried a 19yrd avg and scored 14tds, as a soph. he had 19rec for 404yrds and had a 21.3yrd avg and 4tds. On top of that he qualified for the Region 4 trackmeet in the 100m this past weekend after winning 29-5A 100m title with a time of 10.68 sec, at the Regional meet he did make the finals but did not run

Don't send any scouts in Week Zero or Thirteen. You want to look as good as possible!
Nixon does have a nice wide-open offense, but it doesn't help when you play Judson or a SA team in the playoffs. I have to give Nixon credit for playing great teams and that should keep them on top of their district.
I was in Kuwait last year and knew Judson was going to contend when they were up 28-0 on Nixon after 1 quarter. Kyle Fox had something like almost 170 yards on 6 carries for 4 TD's and sat the rest of the game.

if i'm not mistaken Murillo had over 100yrds rec in both of those games against Judson and Marshall, so whether Nixon lost or not, he did his part and contributed, i think he had another 80yrds against Taft in the 3rd rd though.....dont blaim him, blaim his team...

Can they beat Lufkin? or SLC? or PAM?
can he got those stats if Nixon was in a san antonio district...wait can he get those same stats if nixion was placed in the 32-5a valley district replacing Porter?

RPM, any kid that has 85 catches for 1,600yrds is doing something right, no matter where he plays.......his speed would allow him to play anywhere......anyone that can run a 10.68 100m can obviously run.....
in regards to Nixon beating Lufkin, SLC, or PAM.......NOT a chance.....but thats not wha the topic was about, its about getting a WR some attention, maybe even get him recruited by a big school in the WAC, Conf USA, MAC or SunBelt conferences....if any of ya'll think taht this kid cant couldnt play for PAM, SLC or Lufkin, ya'll are sadly mistaken, this kids speed says it all......how fast did Mckay Jacobson speedy WR from SLC run the 100m when he was healthy????? not a 10.6 i can tell you that, shoot this season he only ran low 11s...not a knock agaisnt Jacobson, he is a great player, just a minor comparison to an equally talented kid from a poorer school

I remember that WR from SLC back when they won state the first time against SV. He wore #9. He wasn't that big but he sure could put up the numbers in a hurry.

actually they played him both, out wide and in the slot, when there were played "bunch" formations, he was usually split out wide 1 on 1 with the DB, i saw him run some bubble screens, quick hitches, WR screens and i can tell you, he is ELECTRIC, he has ankle breaking moves, he has great hands, i never saw his drop or bobble a ball, he adjusts to poorly thrown balls and his speed makes him a deep threat.......i have such high praise for this kid and i dont even know him, i have seen him play a few times and he boggles my mind

You would be mistaken. Murillo did put up 150yds against Marshall and 133yds against Taft, but the Rockets held him to a pedestrian 97yds. ;)
I went to the Laredo Nixon game last year, but can't remember if anyone stood out for the Mustangs. I was really trying to get a good read on how the DBs for Judson would handle the spread. I know they would have racked up more yardage if not for some poor throws/routes. The game was over by the end of the first thanks to Fox though, so I might have been talking more than watching the game.

RGVBadBoy,
Don't you know? Football south of San Antonio sucks. The coaches suck, and by definition the players suck. Foget about the fact that at times programs south of San Antnio have gone produced great college players, occassionaly, NFL players and Super Bowl winners. This kid didn't play at SLC or Judson, so he sucks. Yes I know he has great speed, decent size, and that when he played against teams from up the state with far-more talented squads over all he STILL put up respectable numbers. He is from S. Texas, he sucks, period.
What is it with some of you up-state guys. Last time I checked no RGV fans were on here trying to say S. Texas had better programs than the upstate schools. No one tried to say that we have better over-all talent, or coaching. What we do claim is that sometimes some pretty good players fall through the cracks because they don't get as good of exposure down here. We have some dedicated fans trying to change that. Admit it- 10.68 speed, decent size, and he obviously has decent hands-- any HS coach in the state would be drooling at the thought of having this kid suit up for them.

5" 9" 165 lbs., huh? My prediction, sight unseen, will get major college scholarship and avg. 30 catches per season and doesn't breathe the grass of a professional field. Take it to the bank. Remember my wisdom in 5 years.

im not talking about an all pro WR, im talking about a kid that will give you some good play at the WR spot, a school like Hawaii, Texas Tech, Utep (with their new spread offense), Boise State, Louisville and others should be licking their chops with this kid........sure 5'9 165 legit though....lets not forget about the 10.6 100m speed as a jr. no less, Chad Owens formally of Hawaii and now Jacksonville Jags was a hair over 5'7 he is 180lbs but he is older and more developed, but then again Chad only ran a 4.65, i think a 10.6 100m translates ot better than a mid 4.6 40......

unfortunately many recruiters only read a tape measure from the 72 inch mark on. the good news for him is that he has some great jr stats and film. hope he gets some looks and has some success in whatever level he chooses, or chooses him. he needs to attend as many camps as he can to get his name and talents out from under the bucket that is rgv football.

I can't take anything away from the kid, but his numbers are padded. I used to go to Run and Shoot games and it's not hard to get 18 catches in a game when you almost never run.
I don't have the stats with me, but I don't think Nixon ran more than 5 times against Judson the whole game. It seems like they had over 200 yards passing.
They played 12 games and ran for 56 yards a game and passed for 330.
Madrigal had a good year throwing for almost 3900 and Murillo had the 85 catches, 1600 yards, and 13 TD's.
RGVBadBoy
05-04-2005, 09:44 PM
madrigal passed for more than 4,000yrds if you include their loss to Taft, and Murillo had 14tds according to MySa.com, padded or not, 85 catches is 85 catches and 1,600yrds lead the state.....there are plenty of teams that run a wide open run and shoot and are not nearly as successful..

Sorry if you guys didn't get the sarcasm dripping ALL over my previous posts. The numbers don't lie no matter what the system is. 1600 yds is nearly 60% more than the #2 receiver in the SA area.
The guy will definately get some attention from upper tier conference schools, not just ones like the MAC, WAC, or SunBelt. And by the way, I think I can remember a guy close to Murillo's size from a school south of SA, went on to great things at a major university, and is playing for the NY Giants I believe. Murillo can write his own future if he keeps producing.

I agree with jtdaniel. Murillo can write his own future. If he gets over looked by the D1 programs, it sounds he can count on hearing from a little D2 program in Kingsville. Oddly enough, going there might give him a better shot to take it to the next level than some ofthe studs who sign with D1.

I am sorry to say that this young gentleman will probably be considered to small to play DI or DIAA ball. Robert Quiroga a receiver from SA Holmes had similar speed but was 6'2 185 and had a good career at Baylor and signed a free agent contract with the Ravens. At 5'9 165 he will have a hard time defeating press coverage and durability might also become an issue. The trend in college is to go for kids who are at least 6 ft. The 5'9's are a dime a dozen.
RGVBadBoy
05-05-2005, 12:29 PM
Robert Quiroga of SA Holmes couldnt hold a candle to this kid, even though he was 6'3 185 4.6, even in HS he wasnt even productive...the only reason he got a scholorship was because fo track, otherwise he would have gone D2......Robert was a track guy trying to play football, he went to Baylor to run.....another thing, Robert was fast, but was not a 10.6 guy in the 100m that is why he didnt run the 100m and competed in the 400m and 4x400m relay only...... 5'9 WR ARE a dime a dozen, but kids that can run 10.6 100m and catch a football are few and far between....

Quiroga wasnt productive for Holmes? I think SA Roosevelt and Converse Judson would have something different to say. Robert's Holmes team took
Katy to the limit his senior year. And as far as being only a track guy he
was only a member of the SA Holmes 1600 Realy team that won State. Robert was also an excellent special teams player for Baylor and while I wish he would have gone to a better school he had a good career against Big 12 competition. And 10.6 is pedestrian for elite receivers. Now if we are talking 10.1 or 10.2 thats something else. Just go online and check out the rosters of all the Big 12 schools and see how many 5'9 receivers they are? Jerrel Wilkerson (SA Clark) is the same size, you have heard of him havent you? He is just as quick if not quicker and he is going to have a tough time at UT.

i dont think Murillo belongs at UT, or any big 12 school for that matter, but im sure that there are plenty of schools in the WAC,MAC, ConUSA, SunBelt and others that would love to have a kid like this.......10.6 is in NO way pedestrian, especially not as a 16yr old kid......the guys that play football and run 10.1 or10.2 100m......are VERY few and far between, rookie Jerome Mathis WR Houston Texans is one of those guys, but i cant think of any others.....well maybe Roy Williams UT now Detroit Lion........oh and as far as Jerrell is concerned, i dont think he was UT material, but they gave him an offer, i honestly dont see JW doing much more at texas than returning punts and kicks.....but you never know, Darren Sproles did it...

I agree that JW will be in over his head at Texas. Saw him try and return kicks in the Army All-Star game and he looked out of his element. While 10.6 is fast a middle school kid at SA Taft's feeder school broke the 8th grade record this spring when he ran a 10.68 in the 100. He would have won the district meet at the varsity level this year.

an 8th grader tan 10.68?!?!?!?!?! that is VERY impressive, however, speed is great, but do you think Maurice Greene (Olympic 100m sprinter and former record holder 9.79) would be a star in the NFL???? NO, i dont think so, its harder for a track guy to be a football player, than a football player ot run track, if this kid can play a lick of football, than i suppose we're all in a little trouble huh???? if the young sprinter doesnt plataue or is peaks to quickley... just some food for thought.....but yeah, a 10.68 from an 8th grader is AWSOME
