im sorry to break it to you, but although i love your school pride for whether it be dawson or cms, no one here really cares much about middle school football.

When I was in middle school it was Carroll Middle School, and Carroll Jr. High...when did they change one of them to Dawson?

wehn they built dawson

09-24-2005, 05:50 PM
yeah, thats how it was when i went. the junior high then become Carroll High School which has grades 9 and 10, and they built a new middle school (Dawson). They changed all the boundaries for who goes where too, so a lot of people werent happy about it.
And as i said earlier, i commend him on his school pride, and it is a big game for those two schools, but im sure more than half of this board, especially those not involved with Carroll don't care about that game. As much as we'd care about the Coppell East and Coppell West game. (I hope those are real schools haha, i think they are)

CMS has Kyle Williamson at QB who runs and throws very well. With Tommy Avers reminds me alot of Luna only with better vision. He is very impressive to watch hit the gaps and cut against the grain for long runs. WR Jackson Stewart is over 6' and is a very good on the defensive line as well as WR. This will not be a close game.

The CMS "8th A" Defense has had 2 shutouts in 3 games. (Actually last weeks game they did give up 6 points with time expired).
CMS beat Coppell East 38-0, No contest.
Indian Springs 31-21 (1 td on the defense because the offense fumbled on the 1 inch line, and another 7 points on the 2nd and 3rd kids after the game was out of reach in the 4th Quarter.
Heritage Middle School 48-6 (the only td was scored on the 3rd team as time expired in the game).
However both teams have to play other teams this week before the excitement of the "Dragon Bowl" can occur.
For those outside of Southlake, a little history. Southlake has 2 middle schools. Carroll Middle School and Dawson Middle School. Both schools use the Dragons as the school mascot. There is a intense intercity rivalry that exsists to see which Middle School plays the best football. Both schools use the same schemes as the Varsity and for the last 2 years Dawson has not been able to beat a CMS team. This game is played at Dragon Stadium with annoucers and all the trimmings of the Friday night games including bands and cheer squards. There is no halftime show but it is as close to "Friday Night" as Middle schools get. All in all a great time is had by all and the bragging rights of the local schools is on the line.

i beleive cms will win but dawson will score more than 14 if they get going. they have a new quarter back who can throw and run just like kyle williamson as long as the WR can focus on the ball.

I agree, I do feel that SLC does have a better offense, it would be a good game if SLC did play ET in the play-offs. As this is the thread for SLC vs Colleyville Heritage, I still feel that SLC will have too much offense, and a 'D' to cope with Colleyville's offense.

The "A" teams play the later games. Those should pit the best athelets against each other. Carroll Middle school has so much talent that the kid that was labled "The best reciever coming out of the middle school ranks" by the coaches at Coach Dodges Recievers camp, is playing middle linebacker! Watch the Carroll Middle school defense before the game. They believe in themselfs and have a bond that makes them play lights out!

From what I see and what I hear, there might be an additional advantage for CMS just on coaching/ game strategy in this game. Lineweaver uses his experience watching the opponents B team to get a pretty good idea of what plays to call in the second game. Last two outings have had near perfect results during the 1st Q possessions and the games have been blow outs from then on. His kids respond well to his style... and they're schitzo between the lines when the game starts.

i heard the best reciver in the nation voted on by sports illustrated for kids is #2 and he is playing with a broken arm. Also that cornerback Ross Sanchez #27 is an incredible shutdown cornerback. ALSO CMS' MIDDLE LINEBACKER HAS A RED FRO!!! ALso they have a reciver who is 6'5 and weighs about 245 pounds and has 6 touchdowns already i think is named Jimmy Lewis.

Carroll Football has much to be proud of. A great setting, community spirit , competitiveness and the kids played with class. And as far as the outcome...
Hail to the victors!!
In baseball, it's always about avoiding the big inning against you. Seems you can say that about the "quarter" in football. What was said at halftime to the CMS bunch?

We have 5 junior schools. Bedford/Hurst feed into Bell, while Harwood/Euless feed into Trinity. Central is split but it seems as if Trinity gets the better athletes from Central. The only starter we have from Central is DeAndre English.
I still remember our 9th grade season... Bedford Jr. High, Joe Mauro at QB
L @ Nimitz 21-14.. We score late in the 4th but they call it back because Joe put his hand up while the TD pass was in the air, "unsportsmanlike conduct"
L vs. Arlington Seguin 15-9.. they were good
W vs. Harwood 27-6... we beat them so bad. They sucked
W @ Weatherford 27-6... same score back to back
W @ Carrolton Ranchview 17-3... same Ranchview team came up and bit our JV the next year 63-0
T vs. Grapevine 20-20... Stephen Headly/Joe Mauro combine for 500+ yards passing, we blocked a Grapevine field goal with no time left to tie
L vs. Hurst 14-13... Bernard Flanders scores with under 2 minutes left to give Hurst the win
W vs. Fossil Ridge 20-0... game temperature was 30 degrees in the rain/sleet for an October game
W vs. Euless 27-0... set up district title showdown vs. Central
L vs. Central 28-22... Dmitri Nance scores a 65 yard TD with 32 seconds left

There were great games last 2 nights. The 7th C teams started the games on Monday night. CMS C team won. The CMS "B" 7th team lost to DMS, the CMS "A" 7th grade won.
On Tuesday both the CMS "A" and "B" teams won.
It was a great two nights of football for the Dragon Nation. It seems that there is a lot of talent coming through the ranks that will give Coach Dodge some good reloading tools!
Yes the Red Fro Middle Linebacker got lots of tackles. (Duston Frazier)
The 6'2" Wide Reciever had a TD and a 2 point Conversion (Jackson Richards)
And 27 had some good defenses in the secondary (Ross Christienson).

CMS totally dominated DMS almost the whole game Tuesday night. At the end of the first half CMS was winning 7-6, but CMS didn't have their best half at all! The second half was absolutely controlled by CMS. They started it off with a kickoff return by Brett Renger, led by star RB Tommy Avers who laid out 3 kids on the kickoff by himself. I don't know what the coaches said to the CMS guys in the locker room at halftime but whatever they said, it worked. I think you can get a lot more used to seeing Tommy Avers and QB Kyle Williamson in the backfield for many years to come. I am not taking anything away from DMS because i know they ahve a great team. I can't even begin to imagine how good the freshman team will be next year.

The difference in this game was fresh legs. Looked to me that most of the DMS offensive players were found on much of the defensive side of things as well. CMS threw rested players at Dawson's offense (LB's, Safety's and CB) and that can make a difference. Either a depth problem at Dawson or the playing time is being limited to a small ,athletically advanced group cause it works against lesser talented Middle Schools. Backfired in the second half. Some of CMS's second string have been given equal playing time to the first group. Makes the team stronger and the parents happier 'too.

10-06-2005, 02:56 PM
Good post. You're right about most of DMS's talent playing both ways. CMS is just deeper. Their second string wasn't getting equal playing time, CMS just had enough players to not have to go both ways. I guarantee you they would have had a couple go both ways though, had they needed it. CMS and Dawson will fill a great freshman class.

Next year will be a good year again for SLC freshman football but it will be a guess to see where everyone will be placed, mitchell osborne of dawson was at WR this year with 10 TD's on 6 games will move to LB, matt mcdavid will move to LB as well, just about everyone almost on the cms side of the ball will stay the same seeing that they are well prepared in the depth charts. tommy avers kyle williamson, dylan powell, and jackson richards will stay at there positions and will be a huge threat among other teams. this next year will be a year to watch freshman football.
