"We still don't know where the storm is going to land and how much damage it's going to do," said CISD athletic director Marsha Porter. "School will be closed (today) and Friday. If we open on Monday then we'll get together and create a plan on how to make games up."

Conroe High School head football coach Roger Holtkamp, whose team is off to a 3-0 start, was scheduled to lead the Tigers into their 14-5A opener at Sam Houston State's Bowers Stadium against Huntsville on Friday in the Hornets' homecoming game. Now, the Tigers will have to wait until next week before they'll have a chance to add onto their best start in years.

"It's frustrating," said Holtkamp. "You work hard, get prepared and want to play. However, outside of all that, it's more important to take care of your family and the schoolchildren. Decisions have to be made and we have to take care of safety issues first. Hopefully, everyone in the surrounding areas will be safe."

College Park's JV Blue team was scheduled to play the Klein Collins JV at Buddy Moorhead Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

"We realized some of the people couldn't get there," said Porter. "I-45 is a parking lot."

Porter said all sub-varsity and junior high games that were scheduled for the rest of the week will not be made up. Varsity volleyball games, tennis matches and cross country meets can be made up early next week.

As for football, there could be a full night of games on Monday. If that happens, under UIL rules, teams have to play games five days apart in the same week. With that coming into play, next Friday's games would have to be moved to Saturday to be five days from the Monday contests.

"We would be looking at a triple-header on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Moorhead Stadium with Oak Ridge and Huntsville, The Woodlands and Klein and Conroe and Lufkin playing," said Porter. "Times would have to be worked out."

Should there be damage to stadiums or other problems on Monday, then games could be rescheduled for Tuesday, which would then move next weekend's games to the following week, on Monday.

"What complicates the issue is stadium usage," said Holtkamp. "When you have multiple schools playing at the same stadium, it gets pretty complicated."

Porter said she spoke with Magnolia and Montgomery officials on Wednesday, with both districts also suspending games for the week.

Willis superintendent Brian Zemlicka said 18-4A officials talked by phone on Wednesday and suspended games.

"We're going to have a district meeting (today) to try and agree on how to make these games up," he said.
