Here is a list of about 15 schools that year end year out just have speed coming out the butt. Now there are plenty more but these are the ones that stick more than others:
Cedar Hill
Garland
Desoto
Westfield
aldine IKE
John Tyler
Longview
Lufkin
Dallas Carter
Dallas Skyline
North Shore
SLC
Euless Trinity
South Grand Prarie
Tyler Lee
I have left out some others teams(Katy and Smithson Valley for instance). Just gauging people's thoughts.

it's good thing you left katy and sv off because they are not fast at all overall as a team.

Abilene may get that distinction soon. I got a look at the Eagles' top ten board. One RB runs a 4.37, the other a 4.47. The two starting ILBs (Chris Mitchell and Chris Williams) run 4.55s. (Keep in mind, that's faster than one of our starting CBs last year). I know that ten people broke the short shuttle record over this off-season, all of them running a 4.0 or faster, including an OT.
AHS will surprise people with their speed this year, especially on defense.

Absolutely. Katy would lose in a foot race drastically to these teams(minus a Michael Fuda here or there), but would probably burn off on SV.

I would think Arlington Bowie has to be on there somewhere. Humble is never lacking in the speed department either. Beaumont West Brook's produced some of the fastest players I've seen as well.
The fastest player I've personally seen at the hs level is Webster Patrick (Westfield RB, 2003).

JT might boast one of the fastest defensive backfields in not only the region, but the state. JT's starting 3 LBs run sub 4.5 and they were all clocked at about 4.45 or better yesterday afternoon. All of JT's starting DBs run 4.4 or better. JT's starting CB Jeremy Johnson was clocked at 4.31 and the other cornerback, Brandon Norman, was clocked at 4.22:eek:  ! JT's starting RB Romonte Hampton was clocked at 4.36. Junior-to-be Safety Corey Wilson was clocked at 4.28(my god that is something). JT's LB Derrick choice ran a 4.45 yesterday as well. These were hand held times by an indepent person who is helping JT run their summer speed and power camp. No one in 12-5A can match that. Alot of JT's offenseive players hit or came close to the 4.4 mark. Junior-to-be WR Dominic Ward ran a 4.32. To say JT will be a little quick is somewhat of an understatement.

Speaking of Duncanville, what has happened to their football program. They were always one the most talented teams in southwest Dallas yet now they are doing poorly. They have over 3,500 kids at that school BTW. They should be up there at least with Desoto and CH. Their basketball team has UNREAL talent yet the football team is lacking. Is it coaching or lack of interest?

There is alot of truth to what you say. Katy has VERY solid football players, but not whole lot of big time D1 talent across the board. Mike Johnson did a great job of installing great discipline in the Katy program and his WR coach, Svendon, is JT's offensive coordinator now. I am very interested to see what he can do at JT since he will be bringing some of Katy's priniciples to JT's offense this year.

It shocked me too when they told me yesterday. Those are some "off the charts" times for sure! The coaches have it on their boards at the field house. JT will definitely put alot pressure on opposing offenses. Desoto, East, CC, Carter, Longview, and Lee will definitely require some very good D to beat.

Speed is good but quickness( first step or two) is just as good. Both are a part of what you need to win football games but only a part.
Fast just tells me they may have a good track team. But most of the time if you have a good track team you tend to win at football. Most of the time.
As for me give me O and D linemen who are quick and backs who have ok speed and I'll beat any track team, in football.

You are dead on right about that. You see, SLC doesn't beat people with their speed, but with EXECUTION AND TECHNIQUE! Speed can cover up alot of technique flaws but it can be negated by good execution. You can have all the speed in the world but if that team isn't properly coached than it will be wasted. Coaching and good execution are what makes teams reach their potential.

I highly doubt that all these dudes for John Tyler ran the times that you have posted. I would like to see what they would run on lasers. Otherwise, they are fielding a team with college to NFL speed at the high school level. They better go undefeated if that is legitimate. Personally, I put no stock in your post, for I do not believe the times to be accurate.

As far as I know coaching has done them in bad. It hurt when we lost coach Alpert. I haven't been monitoring them for a while but they have good talent....just not to much of a coach...and that's a shame because I played for the dude in HS and he was cool. Oh well.......Can anyone else add on?

Take it for what it is worth because that is what they were telling me and the JT coaches were NOT the one who was timing them. I too would like to see JT's players under FAT timing. I could care less if you think I am lying because that is what I was told when I went up to the fieldhouse yesterday. JT bought in a independent party to help run their speed and power camp they are the ones who tested the players. Now I think the times are a little exaggerated but the charts on the times are saying the same thing so we will see JT's speed for real when they play Texas high and Carter. Even if they were exaggerated, JT's players would still be close to those times in FAT I believe. Like I said before, speed can only take you so far until execution comes in to play.

You realize that Ramonce Taylor ran a 4.5 at the combine, and he is one of the fastest players I have seen in person. Who knows what type of shape he was in for the combine, but I would put money on it that none of the LB's run sub 4.5 and that no one on the team runs sub 4.3. If I were a rich man, I would have my private plane fly me to Tyler, Texas, set up lasers, and see what the results would be. You would see that the times are greatly exaggerated. I would also want the times to be run on grass or field turf as many times high schoolers run on a track in track shoes if they have them. Maybe they were running the "35." ;)

The fastest HS player I have ever seen, and I have seen some, was DeByon Blanton from Forney. In pads he was amazing. "The fastest teenager in the nation". Went to Oklahoma, ran track, won some big 12 meets, and for some reason did not make the Olympics. Dion Sanders, I think ran a 4.17 40. Blanton was reported to run a laser timed 4.19. I saw him.. everyone can have some fast skill players. When i go to a game, i look at the guards and how much the RBs have to wait on them to get the hole or downfield. I look at how fast the LB's make it out to the flats to cover a swing pass. I also look at the backside pursuit by the D-linemen. This is why I love to watch Lufkin play, because they truly have team-speed. The skill players had better be fast anyway, the other positions seperate the average teams from the speedy ones.

I know one year.. I think it was 2002 that Lufkin had at least 16 kids on their team running legit (4.6) are faster. That's some team speed for a HS team.
By the way.. I dont care how many so called Fast teams we have in Texas. We aint got crap on those super World renoun Speed demon teams from Florida. Especially South Florida where their running and we're jogging.

I also saw him play Mel Maxfield's wing-T at Forney. To make a long story short, the only way you were going to catch him is if you turned around, and ran backwards when the ball was snapped. (NOT KIDDING AT ALL!) When they played Everman in the 2nd round of the 2001 3A-D1 playoffs, Everman's defense played atleast 8-9 in the box on every play, and Blanton still ran for about 180 that night, averaging about 6 yards per carry. Oh, and Everman went on to a 15-0, state championship season after that.

this is true but we beat you with our mind, all those "fast teams" couldnt hang wit KATY and SV.(except SLC):o
that's what everyone said when ch played hebron, amarillo, and cy falls it's not just speed, they are also disciplined, and no matter what you do if my guy can beat you to a certain spot your beat period; just ask 34 from falls when he was trying to fill and stopping william cole. when you have discipled speed you have the perfect storm and there is not a scheme that can counter that trust me.

I ran a 2.5. I timed it myself.
I timed myself also...but I ran a 2.49 on a wet muddy field with rain-soaked cleats. It should be noted the method was not a hand-held watch or electronic laser; I just used most accurate method of all:
Spelling out: "O-n-e M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i" "T-w-o M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i" "T-h-r-e-e M-i-s-s-i-s-s..." then I crossed the finish line.

I didn't get to see Cormier play, but I knew who he was at the time. The fastest North Shore player I've seen would be a tie between Kevin Moore and Chad McCullar. Chykie Brown may have been faster than those two, but I never got to see him in the open field.

Herkie Walls, Garland HS, Senior 1979.
He had the fastest 100 yd. dash in the nation his senior season.
Ran a 6.04, 60 yd dash and beat Herschel Walker back when Herschel was still a world class sprinter. I wish there was tape, but back in the 1978 season, there was a run he made where he made a 30 yd. TD run that he probably ran 120 yds on all his cutbacks and field reversals.
He went on to play with the Longhorns and Oilers a few years, and went to the Buccaneers, made a swim in the European league, then found his home in the Arena league where he ended up in the Arena League HOF. He now is a football coach at a private school in Florida.

When I think of the fastest hs teams in 5a I think of Lufkin, Ike, Longview, JT of old, Garland, Westfield, Northshore, Carter of old, Desoto, Waco of old etc etc
A new team that recently came on the scene with that type of speed is cedar hill. I would also put the SLC wr's up there with anybody in terms of speed on a yearly basis. That is one thing some do not realize about SLC until you play them. They have a fast team too.

Been watching this thread with interest. Talking about speed, define speed. I believe quickness is more important at the high school level. There is a differece. Response time, the first ten yards, or the first three secents of a play is most important. Its a LB that can respond and stop a play in the backfield.Or a WR that can break open in ten yards. etc. Hopfully a good game will not have many footraces down the sideline.

I am just going on what their charts said and what they were telling me. Alot of those of times I gave are hard to believe at face value thats for sure. This year's team is going to be faster than last year hands down. The biggest of JT's speed is on defense. With that speed JT should be little more than competitive this year IMO. Last year's defense was definitely NOT our fastest defense and it showed early on, but they were the most improved part of the team at the end of the season. I expect them to be very good and help the offense along alot this year. JT's passing game is UNSTABLE right now IMO and that is going to take time to get better.

Actually alot of them were on the track team but half of them was on the JV track team(JT won district track easily at the JV and freshman level). The varsity relays was made up of mostly last years seniors and they weren't nowhere near as good as Kerry Maddox's class back in '06. Coach Rush transition has been smooth. He spent most of his time in the spring trying to get the offensive side ball up to speed. JT returns only one starter on offense and that is rb Romonte Hampton. The defense is going to be very solid and their main strength right now. JT will be running a different offense from last year. Ex-Katy WR coach, Svendon, is JT's OC now and he has been implementing alot of Katy's style of offense to JT's offense this year. It will be interesting to see how that works out. Coach Rush is a very young coach(he is 34) and alot people will be watching to see how he does in his first year as a head coach. He has a very young team on his hands, but they have a strong amount of talent so he will be set up to be very competitve agianst that BRUTAL non district schedule and 12-5A.

WOW everyone is giving Region IV so much love. R.E.Lee high School in San Antonio has more speed than anyone in the state hands down. Here are the top 15 “40” times for the team I clocked them myself so I know that are accurate.
C - Gonzalez 6'2" 270lb - 4.77sec
G - Mitchell 6'1" 285lb - 4.67 sec
TE - Howard 6'3" 250lb - 4.62sec
T - Dean 6'0" 277lb - 4.61sec
DE - Del Santos 6'4" 288lb - 4.50sec
LB - Stonebreaker 6'0" 245 - 4.45sec
LB - Jameson 6'1" 230lb - 4.33sec
QB - Forester 6'3" 215lb - 4.20sec
SS - Hamersted 6'1" 200lb - 4.15sec
RB - Masterson 5'9" 195lb - 4.11sec
WR - Jones 6'0" 188lb - 4.10sec
WR - Wiatrick 6'0" 200lb - 4.05sec
DB - Colman 5'8" 188lb - 4.01sec
DB - Morrison 5'9" 185lb - 3.99sec

On the JT thing.
A. If an "independent" company was brought in don't you think they would try to make the times look better so the kids would be sold on their stuff?
B. What company is this and can the JT kids REALLY afford to have an outside company run their program? It's not like they are SLC socio-economics or anything. Not meaning that negative my kid can't afford that either, glad the coaches at his school are doing the summer program pretty cheap (they do have to charge by UIL rules you know).
C. JT has always had good speed and are impressive in how they run to the football. No reason to make their times something they are not. They are plenty fast anyway. I would put them in the top 5-10 in the state but those times you quote make me call a big B S.
D. On the possibilty that you are correct and the times are true then you can serve my full helping of crow at the Alamodome on Dec. 23.

yes. this is done by many teams and programs around the nation. not only highschool but college and pro's as well. its called speed and conditioning camp. you have organizations that specialize in that area. you as a coach can do it your self. but,its like if you are working out and want to get fit, you still have that option to get a personal trainer to assist you. somebody correct me if i am wrong on something, but i am almost sure thats how it goes. i have heard of it before. as for the times i domt belive one bit. they are exagerated. especially the jt running back ramonte hampton. he is a striaght 4.5 matter of fact that whole secondary is false. they will be a very quick and fast defense. but, they are not close to all those 4.2s. to be honest. i am not sold on jt's secondary just yet. i want to see how they are against the pass first. i know they are gonna be good against the run. just like lee defense they were good against the pass in 05 when they were young. so i knew in 06 that secondary was gonna be one of the best with all returning jjust about. then they got bigger of front between 05 and 06. jt is much of the same though. its just. i have to see tham aginst the pass before i give that whole defense credit. they do have the potintal though. i cant wait to see them cause i want to compare them to tyler lee's 06 defense.

Cedar Hill

No mention of Judson?
Judson's defense is speed. Anyone watch the 05 state game when Randez James outran the trojan offense for a 99 yard fumble return? Also, anyone remember a guy named Kyle Fox? THAT is football speed. To be honest, 40 times are mostly irrelevant when it comes down to game time. 40 times are a starting point for coaches. Randez ran one of the fastest 100 meters during track season, yet how many times were recievers behind him on the football field (he as a cb btw if u don't know). Speed, when talking football, isn't only track speed, it's also brain power and agility. When you run a "4.4" 40 but you don't know how to take good angles or you don't know your plays or whatever, it does you no good. If it takes you 10 yards to stop then run the opposite direction, speed is irrelevant. Now of course there is a difference if it takes you a split second longer to make a decision than another guy but you run 2 split seconds faster than him...

Dont forget those are your highschool coaches timing who want there team and top players to look the best on paper, its not the college scouts. So I highly doubt that you had 10 guys at a 4.0 or lower especially an offensive lineman. Just keep that in mind when you hear these times

It's coaching. I work with someone who played for their current coach and he said that it is not a surprise they are struggling. I also saw them play DeSoto last year, and they were outcoached and outmanned in every phase of the game.

Funny, I don't see any mention of SLC on here. I guess they must just be better at everything else....:D
I mentioned them. They are not talked about much in terms of team speed because of stereotyping in my opinion. I have seen there receivers blow by some of the fastest secondary's in the state on several occasions. I am not as naive as some.

The fastest player I've personally seen at the hs level is Webster Patrick (Westfield RB, 2003).
4.28 constantly. We used to work out in da summer we be on our 12th sprint and he still be runnin 4.3's.
I think Klein Forest offense will be fast 3 of there 100 meter team plays running back or reciever. I wish I could see the other teams to have a better judgement.
