How are pools determined? When will pools be out?

The State 7on7 board puts the pools together, usually during the week before the tournament starts.

Would be cool if it came out now and then you could do a March Maddness brackets...Who do you think would make final 4 and Elite 8 ---
Final 4 - Katy, Abilene, Lake Travis, Colleyville Heritage
Elite 8 - Kate, Abilene, Lake Travis, Colleyville Heritage
Brownwood, Mcneil, Southlake Carroll, Hebron
** Mcneil is my longshot..Starting Qb will not be with team on Friday

Colleyville Heritage is breaking in a new coach, entirely new offense and most of the defense..we'll see...they have not really shown an ability to re-load in the past. But hey it's not real football, it's 7 on 7 and anything can happen!

Since the real coach doesn't run the 7-on-7 program, I don't see the correlation.
Now if you wanted to say that CHHS lost its passing quarterback, Casey Russell to Oklamoha and its 2 All-State wideouts in Breece Johnson and Evan Walker to UNT, then that would make sense.

THese are really all of the teams that has a chance to make the state bracket. really the state bracket is not decided till the end of the first night of tournament weekend. the pools are made up of 4 teams. with the top 2 teams ineach pool advancing to the state bracket and the last 2 have to play in the concelation bracket. both state and concelation is played on saturday.

big red & cujo - thanks for the break down of the 7 on 7 state tourn. All of these team have really already made the tourn.....it is still is a field of 64 teams fighting for the championship...just like the Ncaa basketball tourn... So the bracket can start on Friday... If you lose for the most part you are out... I still would like to see other people final 4 and elite 8 teams...

Its tough to really see who will make the final 4 or elite 8 until the pools are released...then you'll know how the potential matchups will shake down....a lot of really good teams get knocked out in the round of 32 or 16...for example I thought Plano East had a real good shot at making noise last year but they ran into Baytown Lee in the round of 32 because of the way the brackets broke down
Mcneilmavs 07
07-03-2007, 08:02 PM
That is the same way the March Maddness goes. (64 teams) with alot of upsets.....If they are really a good team - they should not be your pick to make the final 4 or elite 8 -- It you know too much that takes all the fun out of it...No one said it would be easy...

I think even you would agree that there is a difference between "keeping up with" and influencing the outcome through coaching. I would have to agree that having a new HC should not matter in 7 on 7. That being said, I am of the opinion that coaching in general does not have the impact on 7 on 7 that it does regular football.

What is your team record this year in SQT ?? Mcneil played in 2 and went 7-1 only losing to Lake Travis by 3...Dont know why Brownwood would be ranked ahead of Mcneil since we beat them at Lake Travis SQT...Just wondering what team records are at SQT ??? this year.. I know about Katy and Abilene not losing ....
7on7junkie
07-08-2007, 02:56 PM
My guess on Baytown Lee being ranked #1 is that they are a proven winner at A&M they know what it takes to win on Saturday
I know McNeil beat Brownwood but didn't they win on like a last second hail mary?
Brownwood has been to state numerous times I'd probably give them the benefit also
Mcneilmavs 07
07-08-2007, 03:36 PM
Mcneil did win on a last second hail mary - but Mcneil held the lead all but 1:00 minute of the game... when Brownwood hit a long bomb with about 1:00 left...I believe that was the 1st lead for them that game... So Mcneil got the win a lead all but 1:00 of the game... Who would you say was the better team...the team that lost or won...or the team that had the lead for only 1:00 of the game and lost..Or the team that lead most of the game and won ??? I do agree that Brownwood is a good team and the fact they have been to State before helped in ranking....
panamamyers
07-08-2007, 03:41 PM
It's a predicted order of finish. It has something to do with results up to now, but there are other factors that go into it. Like 7on7 said, you can't disregard the fact that Lee has been there and won twice as well as numerous other deep runs. You also must factor in that 2 of Lee's best 7 or 8 players have been gone all summer but will be back for the state tournament.
Not making excuses, just explaining what MIGHT have went into the decision making process.
katy_dynasty
07-08-2007, 04:44 PM
ok given that baytown lee has won in the past twice shouldnt play that much of a factor bc two years ago they didnt have the same squad so u have to look at this years progress and maybe a lil bit of last years IF they have alot of returning plAyers .(this is for all teams) . anyways regardless baytown lee has still lost twice to katy this year but i guess those didnt count...??? well i hope they get to play again it was a good matchup . does anyone know when the first game on friday will start .. ive heard 1 but not sure
7on7junkie
07-08-2007, 04:59 PM
The state tournament turns into a battle of attrition on Saturday, playing 5 or 6 games in a row can wear on you mentally. Baytown Lee last year advanced to the semi-finals before losing to Rockwall, that has to play a role in things. Personally I wouldn't bet against them at Texas A&M
panamamyers
07-08-2007, 05:03 PM
Actually it plays a factor. Lee knows what to expect in CS. I'm sure there are some intricacies of the two day tournament that Katy is not familiar with. I'm not saying it plays a huge factor. But, is it a factor? Of course. Regardless of if any of these Lee plyers were on those teams or not.(quite a few were on the team two years ago actually)
You completely disregarded the second part of my post which was the real meat of the reasoning.
This is not a ranking of how things have played out so far. That's not the purpose of their list. That couldn't be any farther from the purpose actually. This list is a list of how they think things will play out in CS. You HAVE to factor in that two of Lee's best players have not been playing(other than the first sqt) while they amassed the record they have so far this summer.
Again, I'm not saying I necessarily agree with their rankings. I haven't watched enough to know. I am giving you the logical reasoning that would lead them to rank them that way.

It didn't appear to be a well-informed article on the 7 on 7 teams that I have seen.

Permian and Stratford in the finals? Don't know much about Permian, but Stratford is certainly capable. Would still be a surprise final though.

It sure was a surprise when we won it in 2003.

I like our chances if our defense shows up ready to play. That is the key IMHO at the state tournament. You have to get some stops on defense. My concern is we do not have much height on defense and may have trouble with tall receivers. I also mentioned being ready to play because, for example, we have one CB that is very talented- we call him Deion- but to be completely honest like Deion Sanders sometimes it looks like he decides to take a play off (or rather, I have a feeling maybe he gets that "I've got a starting spot sewn up and it's just 7 on 7" attitude). But if he comes in with the right mindset he can be a difference maker. We also have a good safety in Andrew Amoyaw. He makes a good break for the ball. An ankle sprain may hamper him some though (he seemed okay Tuesday).
Offensively we have some talent, and will be helped by the participation of our top returning skill player, WR/DB Melvis Pride (5'11" 175# 4.4). He hasn't been able to make any of the SQTs we played in. Missed one due to a previous family engagement, and the other because he was at the Baylor camp. Coupled with Joseph Knighten, a transfer from Coppell that has similar stats to Melvis, I think we will have a potent 1-2 punch at WR. I think all of receivers are capable, but those two are probably the attention getters. QB is Taylor Byrd, who is a lot like our 2003 QB Shea Smith with a little bit better wheels. Again, I think if we show up ready to take care of business we can do very well. Or we could not be business like and have our heads handed to us. Probably the same as most everyone else. ;)

Stratford has a good team, but I don't know if their defense is strong enough to carry them that far. They will need to be on fire offensively the entire time in order to win it. I've seen them a few times this summer.

well thats just not right! mesquite is a good team, but i dont see katy losing to them! or klein forest and langham creek not making the champ bracket, or stratford winning the whole thing! seems like they had an agenda while making their picks..... and kt! make sure you have kf vs katy in the quarterfinals! lol
