This has nothing to do with football, but it's important.

I care about all you guys and care about my state. I've been all over the state and feel like your towns are my town, too. Keep all of us informed about how things are going where you're at. All of us want to know that everybody is safe.

IF YOU HAVE TO EVACUATE, DON'T DO LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE AND ALL TAKE THE SAME MAIN ROADS. GET OUT THE MAP OR THE ATLAS AND CONSIDER ALTERNATE ROUTES OUT OF TOWN. I USED TO SEE THE SAME THING WITH KOREAN HOLIDAYS. THE EXPRESSWAYS WOULD BE PACKED AND TAKE FOREVER TO GET FROM SEOUL TO PUSAN. I WOULD TAKE THE BACKROADS AND HAVE HARDLY ANY PROBLEMS.

You can take Alternate US 90 all the way to Seguin from Houston. US 290 goes to Austin and you can cut off at Hempstead to head north on Texas 6 to get to Waco. US 59 gets you to Lufkin, but you probably want to keep going north from there since the hurricane may pass through there. Take US 90 out of San Antonio if I-10 looks like it's going to get packed. It might not be a bad idea to head up Us 281 to Wichita Falls or get on Texas 16 going north out of Fredericksburg.

I've heard that I 10 clears up coming from the east at about Columbus. Right now I 10 looks very normal just east of San Antonio.

I also heard that there is no gasoline from Luling to Houston.

They are about to change the in-bound lanes going into Houston the other direction so more people can get out quicker. Traffic is really bad.

Interstates will be one-way
10:30 a.m. -- At any time now, interstates 10 and 45 will become one-way gushers for evacuees fleeing the Texas Coast to skip a date with Hurricane Rita.

Signs are already flashing on San Antonio's freeways to warn motorists that I-10 is closed to eastbound traffic at Seguin.

I-45 will be closed to southbound traffic at Buffalo. Officials had planned to do it by 9 a.m. and then shifted the time to 10:30 a.m.

NOON UPDATE -- State officials reported that the one-way lanes started at 10:30 a.m. on I-10 and may start about now on I-45.

"No one should be coming to Houston," said Scott Alley, the Texas Department of Transportation's emergency management coordinator. "Emergency traffic, such as law enforcement personnel and rescue workers, take U.S. 290 east into Houston."

This is the largest reversal of traffic in Texas history and officials are scrambling to work out details, said TxDOT spokesman Bill Powell.

Even in Houston, if you take the city streets and avoid the Interstates you can make decent time through town. I feel bad for all those folks sitting on the freeways.

They keep showing pictures of the Katy Freeway and how people aren't moving. I'm thinking, why did they go that way? The Katy Freeway is almost always busy! Those cats leaving Galveston were best suited to drive west on Galveston Island until they got to Freeport to drive north.

The routes from Freeport are just as bottled up. They need to get those contra flow lanes open and fast.

I'd be going nuts! The medians would make a nice passing lane.

I've seen a lot of passing lanes on I-10 going through West Texas! It's almost like the Bonneville Salt Flats in the median.

people are now running out of gas on the freeways. it's now almost becoming safer (depending on where you are) to stay put instead of trying to evacuate now, unless you have about 40 extra gallons of gas in the back of your car. gas stations along most freeways have long lines for gas and are running out quickly..

I went east to Baton Rouge on wednesday evening. Lot of gas stations around Seabrook, LaPorte, and Baytown were already out of unleaded gas. Took me 3 hours to go 25 miles on 146N to get to I-10E and then 5 more to BTR. Good thing I left early; I'd sure hate to be sitting in that mess right now.

I had planned to be here for the LSU vs. Tenn game saturday anyway. Moved to monday and I'll try to come back tues. if the roads are open.

Good luck to everyone.

Took me 6 hours to get from 45 and crosstimbers to Rayford/ sawdust on 45...it was ridiculous. I was trying to get to Dallas...but got off of 45....gonna sit it out at home....with the traffic and the shortage of gas I didnt want to chance it....hope I dont regret this decsion.

I heard this morning the roads were wide open out of Houston. I'm starting to get the feeling there were alot of people who did the same thing. Watch out for yourself, but most of all, take care of your boy and pregnant wife.

I'm assuming at this point in time it's much safer to stay in houston then to venture out now, even considering an open road. too much could happen to cause someone to get stuck out in the open, or the hurricane could hit sooner than expected.

good luck to ya'll, I know my family as well as many others are up here in the woodlands hoping we don't regret our decision to stay as well

Yeah...but the gas situation is still bad.....the rest of the family made it to Austin so I dont have to worry about that....they left out early because I had to shut down all of our servers at work......At least they wont have to go through this.
