Why is it we never hear mentioned when everyone think of the best game in high school that of the SLC and Lubbock Monterrey? Any of you Dragons remember that game? Don't remember the final score but, it was a thriller.

Dragons won by a TD in a really tight game in Lubbock. There was a contriversial spot for a first down that added some spice.

Because it was too damn cold to care, that's why! Everybody had scarfs and hats over their heads so that they couldn't see much of the game. It was a very good game, but the weather did have something to do with why it is not brought up more frequently. That wind and cold held the crowd size down below the usual Carroll standard, so there just weren't that many around to see it. Well, at least not among those who are posting on here.

that was one of a handful of games where the opposition outplayed the good guys, and probably deserved the win. lots of respect for the option running teams, and esp the monties.

I remember. One of two games I have not seen in person since beginning of 2002. I listen on the radio though. As I remeber it was a beautiful night in the metroplex. It got on my nerves bad that we could not pull away. Glad we won.;)

If I'm not mistaken, the score was 38-31.
Not sure if Monterey stopped SLC on 4th down or Monterey was going for it on 4th down--either way the spot wasn't favorable to Monterey.
Wished they replayed the game on television. Monterey was an extremely scrappy team that year and gave all the Dragons you can handle.

It was a situation where SLC was up by a few TDs but couldn't keep it together in the 2nd half...it was ALL Monty after halftime and with something like 3 or 4 minutes left in the game and SLC up by 1 TD, around their own 40 yard line Monty was driving and stalled out on a 3rd down...the RB ran out of bounds past the marker but the spot put him out before the marker forcing them to punt...even Dragons said the spot was WAY off...anyway the way Monty had been driving the whole half the presumption was that they would have gone down for the TD..instead Carroll ran out the clock...or at least that is my foggy recollection of many years ago lol

Well if you would like to see a replay, you can get either a VHS tape or a DVD of that game through the Carroll booster club.

Good sales pitch, Dr. E......you should warn him, though, if he doesn't mute the announcers he'll think the Dragons won by 28.......:D
