Wow, where are all the 'great' flicks of the 2000's?
I would leave off a few of those from the 90's too.

I dont know how I feel about AFI's list... I would say that IMDB's would be a bit more accurate to my tastes.

I've watched The Godfather and the three original Star Wars movies all within the past several weeks and I don't know of any other movies that stand the test of time better than those. In fact, after watching Return of the Jedi, I threw in The Phantom Menace and it's amazing that the special effects in the original Star Wars trilogy are better than those in the newest one.

I have Citizen Cane, but have yet to watch it. Hopefully I can get to it this weekend.

BTW, I've always thought Platoon was better than Apocalypse Now and I would put Full Metal Jacket ahead of both of them.

It's hard for me to rank movies, like this... though I've done it before on this site.

I usually would rather pick my Top 100 Most Exciting (or Entertaining), instead.

It really is remarkable how the special effects in the original trilogy have really stood the test of time. They were on HBO recently and I watched and them and they just haven't gone out of style. Course that could be I'm a huge Star wars fan and that because it's set in such a different "universe" they have their own styling and such.

I was blown away. When you compare the old with the new, it's just no contest. The new movies just look so fake to me, but the originals still look pretty real to this day.

I would put Vietnam war films in this order:

1. The Deerhunter
2. Full Metal Jacket
3. Apocalypse Now
4. Platoon

A Clockwork Orange??

I'm surprised to see that one on the list of such greats. That whole movie was just weird, although the reform technique in the movie might work on a few gangsters these days.

I haven't seen that movie in years. That roulet scene (both actually), were pretty shocking to see at the time.

The Phantom Menace and the Attack of the Clones were really fake looking but Revenge of the Sith, while at times looked faked, most of it was pretty good. Course thats recent technology so I'll wait a few years before I say its really good.

But in Return of the Jedi, the space battles and everything were awesome.

It's hard to believe that those outer space special effects were started in 1968 with 2001 A Space Odyssey. The computer generated special effects have taken over now and in a lot of cases are better especially when used for dinosaur animation. But if the movie doesn't have a good story line and the acting sucks the best special effects in the universe won't help the movie. Case in point; the 3rd Jurrasic Park movie.

That was, to me, one of the biggest factors in the success of the original triliogy. As exotic and orignal as the settings were, Lucas & his special effects team gave the film a feel of believability. You could let yourself be drawn into those far off worlds because of the texture of the scenes. Lucas did more with less in the original. Just the the opposite with the prequels. the stories were just as good, despite all the groanings about too much politics. The effects kept the films from having the human feel. The worst effect are said to be the ones you notice and when you entire backgound is animated 95% of the time? I still enjoy them because I'm a fan of the story but they did not meet the originals standards.

Revenge of the Sith was by far the best of the prequels. It had the operatic elements that Menace and Clones did not.

The effects, visual and audio, of the original trilogy were extremely organic and very believable as a result. The Empire Strikes back is the best sequel ever.

I think if any Lord of the Rings movie should be on the top 100 list it is Return of the King. That's my all-time #1 movie personally.

I had an interest in the movie because my Grandfather's cousin was one of the POW's that helped build that bridge.

Did you notice that OB Wan Kanobe(sp?) was in that movie?

Although it was the best of the three in my opinion, it gets no respect because it was way to predictable. enjoyed it alot but the first kind of layed it all down out there for you you could say. If you didn't see the first don't bother watching the other 2. Just my .02

The placement of Shawshank is rediculous. A top 10 on most lists.

Glad to see The Searchers got its due at #12.

And Toy Story!?!? What? I have a problem with an animated movie being on this list. And if there was an animated movie that were to make it Lion King would be a much better pick.
