Does anyone have friends or family affected by all this flooding in Sherman and Gatesville?
KXII - Last Updated: 10:42 AM 06/19/07 - Five deaths are being blamed on torrential overnight rainfall that flooded several North Texas towns on Monday. The water swept a five-year-old girl and her grandmother to their deaths and killed at least three others.

I had another thread about this. A friend and coworker of mine was killed in Sherman. Car stalled in high water and it just kept rising. I know of a few people whose houses were flooded also. Pretty bad in Sherman, but I think it was even worse in Gainesville.

Yeah, on the radio this morning, they said it rained about 10'' in Sherman in about 3 hours.

Lake Texoma is about to go over the spillway at the Denison Dam. The lake's expected to flow over for the first time since 1990.
Live feed of spillway...

Sherman is flooded again this morning. Craziest thing I've ever seen. Got lots more rain over Lake Texoma so it should keep flowing over the spillway for a while.

People... I work in North Dallas and of course live in Plano. I live less than 8 miles from the office. Normally a 15-20 minute drive in traffic.
It took me an hour and 8 minutes to get home today. The sky opened up and probably dropped 4 inches of rain in one hour in South and Central Plano. I had 2 inches in my rain gauge when I got home and we had no where near the flooding.
Water was over the curbs and medians in some places, I drove thru a foot of water in one neighborhood.
Everytime I was on a major road (6 lane divided) like Custer or Independence, there would be a wreck and I would turn into a neighborhood. I pulled out the handy MAPSCO to get thru them. I saw a total of 4 wrecks, one on Parker that was really bad.:( I saw several emergency vehicles driving thru neighborhoods.
Tough afternoon in Plano.

Well, the Metroplex has had a couple of weeks to dry out except for that 1 1/2 of rain we received last Sunday. Looks like we have a good shot a rain tomorrow with the forecast raising our chances to 50-60%!:puke

Don't think North Texas is the only place with floods.
Us folk down in Guadalupe County see this regularly. And, being from Houston, it's just a way of life. Buy flood insurance and go on with your lives, and don't try and drive through it.

I know it doesn't apply in Houston. In Houston, what you do is keep one foot on the brake, and the other on the gas. This keeps your car in a lower gear and the engine running fast enough to keep the exhaust from being blocked by the water. This way, you can drive through water up to your headlights if you go the right speed.
HA! I'm a native Houstonian.

I have heard from relatives about all the rain you have been getting down there the past couple of weeks...
I guess we are going to join you this week. Rain in the forecast for both North Texas and the SA / Austin area for the next week!
