Nothing to do today in my 3rd period class, so I typed this up and brought it home with me.
Lets go through the teams Trinity is up against in a row, and see how things can.
@ Coppell
Why Coppell will win: Good running back, the best that Trinity has faced yet and could be the best they will face. Trinity's defense has been good but not outstanding, so this could be a tough test for the Trojans. Home game helps, and Trinity may be a bit big headed coming in.
Why Coppell won't win: Trinity's offensive and defensive lines are a lot bigger, Coppell isn't as fast or talented, Trinity's offense is explosive and Coppell's defense has been decent except against SLC. If Emmanuel Moody gets shut down, its over for Coppell.
The Upset Potential-o-meter: ***-------(3/10)
vs. Irving Nimitz
Why Nimitz will win: Another great back comes in to take their shot at the Trojans. Confident, and will be in better shape if they beat SGP. Experienced QB and RB like Trinity has. Trinity will probably take them lightly because of the beatings Nimitz has recieved from the past from Trinity. Well coached
Why Nimitz won't win: Inexperienced, undersized, not as athletic. Unproven, weak competition. If they lose to SGP, they will lose confidence and that will hurt. Its also Trinity's homecoming.
The Upset Potential-o-meter: **--------(2/10)
@Grand Prairie
Why Grand Prairie will win: Trinity's bus breaks down, all of the Trinity Varsity football team gets kidnapped and the Jr. Varsity has to step up.
Why Grand Prairie will lose: Everything. If Trinity isn't up 50-0 at halftime, they must have started their 2nd team for this game.
The Upset Potential-o-meter: -*----------(-1/10)
(Neutral) Bell
Why Bell will win: Rivalry games are always fierce, lost 8 years in a row, first pass-first offense Trinity will face so their secondary will be in for their toughest test. Arguably more talented and just as well coached. Team speed is higher, and Trinity just may come in thinking they will stomp all over us like the last 8 times. Better linebackers and great secondary so Trinity will have to get it done on the ground. After facing great running teams Irving and SGP in a row, we will have been tested with the run game. If Bell can score like they did against Bowie, Trinity will have to do the same. DETERMINATION.
Why Bell will lose: Trinity has a much better offensive line, Bell's defense has been a bit suspectible to the run this year. Bell will have had to win 1, preferably 2, of their murderer's row slate against IMac, Irving, and SGP to have the confidence it will take to win. Bell's running game needs to be established. Turn the ball over like against N. Mesquite and Flower Mound and its all over.
Upset Potential-o-meter: *****-----(5/10)
@Irving
Why Irving will win: Jamaal Evans and Adron Tennell create a good tandem offensively which will really put pressure on the Trinity defense to perform for the 2nd straight game. After facing a pass-first offense from Bell, Trinity will have to readjust from great recievers to a great running back. Irving's defense is always solid on the pass.
Why Irving will lose: Rather undisciplined, and the run was Irving's death last season against Bell, Trinity, and SLC. Defensively they will have to have the best game of their life. If Trinity beats Bell, they will be rolling, however if they lose, Irving meets the Trojans at the perfect time, since they will be dejected from losing to a rival they hate so much. But they will be out to prove it was a fluke as well.
Upset potential-o-meter: *****-----(5/10)
SGP
Why SGP will win: Defense. Their defense is a bunch of strong, hard hitting running back/reciever sized players. They are athletic, talented, and if any defense can stop Nance its the swift and agile SGP. The Warriors have a good ground game. Overall faster and more athletic than Trinity.
Why SGP will lose: It's senior night for the Trojans at Pennington Field. Also, their defense like I mentioned is a bit small, so they will have to beat the Trinity line with their speed. But overrunning that line can mean doom as Nance & Friends will run right by them. Offense overall for SGP hasn't been established yet, 1st year QB, and no real passing game. GRADES KILLED SGP LAST YEAR. SGP has many 2-way starters so they can get tired real quick by the style Trinity plays.
Upset potential-o-meter: ***-------(3/10)
Irving MacArthur
Why IMac will win: They beat them last year and I know they think they can beat them again. Fast defense, like SGP and very talented. Linebackers and a D-Line that can be taken seriously by the Trojan offensive line. Offenseivly they are also fast and can move the ball. More athletic and talented then Trinity and a Thursday Night game can throw the Trojans off guard.
Why IMac will lose: Sorry but they aren't as good as they were last year. Their D-Line and Linebackers may overrun the run game. Overconfidence, and also overmatched size wise. I doubt IMac will be 6-0 coming into this game like last year but a district title still may be on the line. A lot of defensive weaknesses that can be exploited and like SGP many 2-way players that will be tired out by the Trojan style of play.
Upset potential-o-meter: *****-----(5/10)

So, who do you think has the best chance of knocking off the Trojans?
You know im going to have copy you...
@ Coppell
Why Coppell Will Win: best running back they will face. A very high powerd running game, with the quickest offensive line they will face.
Why Coppell will lose: Size and Speed. Coppells pass rush has been suspect the past few games along with with there rush defense. All Trinity really needs todo is pass the ball deep every time and Touchdown. Defensivly, stop Moody, and there you have it.
Upset Meter:
****------ (4-10)
Projected Score (42-24)ET
vs Irving Nimitz
Why Irving Nimtiz will win: Same goes for Coppell, one of the best running back in a long time. A huge 3-0 start for the Vikings of Nimtz and an upset victory of Arlington Lamar. Nimitz, must run the ball sucessfully to be able to pull the win here..
Why Irving Nimtiz will lose: Big faster stronger, again. Stop the run, you win. BUT unlike Coppell Irving Nimitz cant throw the ball as well, Corner backs will have to play extreamly well to win this one.
Upset Meter
*****----- (5-10)
(38-26)ET
@ Grand Prairie
Why Grand Prairie will win: You know as much as i think it would funny if they win, and make one of the biggest upsets in high school football history...they wont...Like BHS 06 said, If the Trojans entire team got sick with the flu and they had to suit up there JV. Even then I would pick Trinitys JV to win.
Why Grand Praire will lose: Because they are better trained, better coached, bigger, stronger, faster, more talented, and overall just better the GP
Upset Meter

Projected Score
(Alot to Nothing)ET
Vs LD BELL
Why LD Bell will win: It would be a huge up set to the trojans, unlikly to happen, but anything is possible in a 5A Rivarly, a revamped Bell team, that is very well coached, would have to play the game of there lifes to beat trinity, but hey its a 5A rivarly game, anything can happen.
Why LD Bell will lose: There Defense should be able to shut down the Major passing team in 6-5A. They shouldnt take this one easly because LD Bell will be coming to play
Upset Meter

(28-14)ET
@ Irving High
Why Irving high will win: two words-Jamal Evans, Leads 5A with over 900 yards rushing in his first three games in 05' possibly the best of the 4 major running back in 6-5A (Moody, Nance, Watkins, and Evans), Irving must learn to throw the football as well...
Why Irving High Will lose: There Defense must over power the Tigers offensive line. And Trinity needs to score touchdowns as much as possible. Turn over must be kept down, to keep the ball out of Evans hands.
Upset Meter:
******--- (7-10)
Projected Score:
(41-38) ET
SGP:
Why SGP will win: They have good speed, and size. It should be one of the better teams trinity will have played this year. SGP will be fighting for one of the play-off spots that they just missed last season being beat by Irving by the final game.
Why SGP will lose: One the last games at Pennington Field for Nance and other trinity seniors. They will leave there hearts out on the field for this one.
*****----- (5-10)
Proejcted Score
(35-12)ET
Irving Macarther
Why IMac will win: Rematch of last years district Championship, it may be the same thing again. There offense might be as good as last year, but there Defense is just as good as they were last year, this will be decied on deffense.
Why IMac will lose: Revenge. Trinitys players were prob pretty upset when they lost to IMac and then IMac got knocked out by Denton Ryan in the first round of the play-offs when they went to the DI state semis. They must hold on deffense and be able to keep the ball on offense as long as they can, turn overs will be the key to winning this game for trinity.
******---- (6-10)
(44-35) ET
AND JUST FOR KICKS
SLC (at Texas Stadium)
Why SLC will win: Two great QBs running the offense, changing things up every couple of downs, coud really throw off the Trojan Defense. Great WR Corps, on of the best in the State. At this point both teams could be 10-0 and SLC will be doing everything to protect there winning traditon
Why SLC will lose: Trinitys size...I dont think SLC has faced anybuddy as big or as strong as Trinity in there 3 year 5A run. A great running back, SLCs Defense has shown weakness against the run at times this season (again Coppell Moody racked up 180 yards).

Chances are very very very slim, but, its 5A texas football, i mean who would have thought Coppell would have beaten Duncanville last year...I still think Trinity will crush Coppell

Great summary of your Division. You obviously know your district. I hope you put as much thought into your school work, because if you do you must be a straight A student. Back to football. I agree with your analysis, but I hope Coppell can beat Trinity to make what would be the "surprise result of the century"

Coppell can win if the Trojans haven't noticed how much tougher they've played as compared to last year. In fact this game is hauntingly similar to when a very talented 2001 team got upset 7-6 on the road to Irving Nimitz, even down to the highly recruited running back in Phillip Fuller, even down to their running styles. Watch out I here those Cowboys are quite scrappy and well coached despite there lask of size and speed. For neutral parties this game features a surprising yet entertaining main event featuring the Trojans' unheralded defense vs. the top running back in the football state whos looking to regroup after a underwhelming performance. Basically the Cowboys were able to hang for periods of time with Duncanville and SLC, so this is a surprising intriguing upset pick but only if the Trojans get big headed. It would be understatement to say this is the 6-5a game of the week.

Playing for Coppell last season, and the years before then, Coppell is very well coached, thats how they were so decent over the past 6 years. 5 out of though six years Coppell made the play-offs and 4 out of the 6 years coppell advanced past the first round

Yeah Coppell utilized some exotic defensive schemes last year to try to stymie the Trojan attack to little success. I look to see more of the same this year to make up for the disparity in size and speed.

By the way having had in opportunity to observe all of Trinity's upcoming opponents id honestly give all of them at least a 6 upset rating except for Grand Prairie. But even with them its not out of the question that some of their ex Trinity coaches can't get them up for that one game at the Gopher-Warrior Bowl. That game like the rest of the remaining games' outcomes hinge on the mental focus of the Trojans.

I didn't vote for anyone yet. Although I think we have a lot of things in our favor, with the biggest being that we are the first team Trinity will face that uses a pass-first offense instead of a power running game. Their defense will be seriously tested against an aerial attack for the first time this year and I think we can catch them off guard after playing 6 straight(7 if you count Dallas Carter) games against power running teams. I don't know how big that is but in my opinion it helps us more than hurt. As does them beating us 8 years in a row. They will come in like usual laughing at us and thinking they will domininate from the start. What if we take the opening kick, score, kickoff, get a turnover or 3 and out, and score again to jump out 14-0 early? They will then have to play catch up and they will be in a state of what is going on here. However it is VITAL that we take at least 2 of our next 3 to have the confidence it takes to take them on.

They won't lose until the playoffs. They certainly don't have anyone on their schedule that should slow them down. If they lose one of these, it's because they were looking down the road.

You are correct! Judson is now the only team (along with SGP), who can beat Trinity. This season, I think Judson have done a tremendous job in getting to the State Championship game - this epitomizes a great, traditional and storied Texas High School Football Program which has endured the years. I did not pick Judson this season, especially over Westfield. I think this year Trinity wins it over Judson.
