Arrington suffers multiple injuries in accident.

Free-agent linebacker LaVar Arrington was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in the Washington, D.C., area, the player's agent told ESPN.com on Monday.
Carl Poston said it was his understanding that Arrington suffered a broken bone in his arm, three broken bones in his leg, cuts and bruises. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. He is recovering at Prince George's Hospital Center.
Arrington, a former Pro Bowl linebacker for the Washington Redskins, is not currently under contract to any team. The 28-year-old Arrington is still rehabilitating an Achilles tendon tear that cut short his 2006 season with the New York Giants.
Senior writer Michael Smith covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

Shades of Winslow, Jr. and Jay Williams. Hate to hear it - he's done; and was probably done anyway.

Lavar, at least, had a decent (yet shortened) career. Yeah, he wasn't the LB he was projected to be (personally, I don't think he was in the right system) but check out these numbers...
...in his first 4 seasons (2000-2003) he had 340 tackles, 21.5 Sacks, 3 INT's, 32 Pass Deflects and 10 Forced Fumbles. He went to 3 Pro Bowls in that time.
And then, in walks a fired Gregg Williams (from the Bills) to act as Defensive Coordinator. The guy takes his best player (a guy who has been one of the Top 5 LB's in the NFL over the past 4 yrs) and benches him.
Arrington is still only 28, but he needs the "right" system. Obviously a broken arm and leg will cause him to miss most, if not all, of this upcoming season... but if he rehabs well and gets "it' back.. he could be on a squad in 2008.

One thing is for sure... he's no Ryan Leaf.

Sad deal, but there is one thing I don't understand.
After Winslow Jr and Rothlisburger, why was this guy on a bike? If he is trying to make a team, wouldn't he be trying to do all he could to stay healthy?
Maybe he can hang out with Pac-Man and they can help each other be responsible people and not lose track of what is really important. ;)

Sucks to hear that and I hope he recovers.
But even before this, when he ruptured his achilles, he was done.

Feel bad for the guy & hope he makes a complete and speedy recovery. This guy was a beast coming out of Penn State. I never felt they played to his strengths the way they should have. He overcame poor schemes and injuries and still had a decent career. It was always frustrating to watch him though because you could see how much he really had to offer. Just never got really rolling for him. No bust though & I wouldn't classify him specifically as a disappointment. The disappointment lies in the way things played out for him.

Undeniably top three & arguably the best. I agree.

I really cant believe these dudes ride bikes. Call me "crazy" but riding a motorcycle is an accident waiting too happen. It's really not a matter of "if" but "when."
But, when you make your living playing Pro Sports the reward vs risk factor increases by about 100 times. I just dont understand it.
I think it's in most of these guys "contracts" that they cant ride bikes or snow ski and many activities like that. But, I guess he wasnt under contract with anyone right now.
I've heard some people call him one of the most "over-rated" LB's in the NFL. I think at worst he is average. He has had up's and down's in the NFL.
Hopefully he can recover 100% and finish out a few more seasons. I hate to see anyone lose out on their profession (Money).
But , put down the helmet and hop into a truck or car. Go buy a freaking boat or something.

you can get hurt in a car accident just the same as a motorcycle accident. They can't live sheltered lives...

Well, I think there is a big difference myself. In many car accidents you get up and walk away unharmed unless it's just a major one. People get hurt no doubt.
You're driving a motorcycle down the road and get T-boned or slammed by another car. There is a big chance you "LOSE" and the car wins.
Like I said, If "I" were making Millions from being a Pro athlete I dont think I would risk motorcycle riding for a few years. Plus, I dont think Arrington was under contract but I'm pretty sure that most Pro athletes have clauses in their contracts that dont allow things like motorcycle riding in them.
TGO would be one to ask about that since he has probably signed a few Pro contracts over the years.
I know there has been some B-Ball players get screwed because they broke the motorcycle clause in the contracts and got hurt. Plus, I think Winslow (Browns) was also under a no motorcycle contract when he had his serious wreck.

They can if it's in their contract. If you sign it, you abide by it.
And there is NO way that motorcycles are as safe as cars. Not only are you exposed, but you are harder to see for other drivers. I saw firsthand a car driver change lanes and not see a motorcyclist. He hit the guy, rolled him under the car, and literally smeared him on the highway. I'm not gonna forget that one soon. That doesn't happen in a car.

Dang, I can't imagine seeing that.
But I can also attest to not seeing a motor cycle. One came up on my right side on a ONE LANE street. I could hear him but didn't see him until after he passed. The guy about my age (19ish) had a light t-shirt and no helmet. The reason why I mention a light t-shirt is that offers no protection at all and the no-helmet is self explanatory.

I agree with the others.
At PSU, Lavar was an example in football of what I think Kobe would have looked like in college- a man way above other young men.
Remember how teams couldn't make up their minds if they wanted Courtney Brown, the DT that went to the Browns? Brandon Short was also on that squad. i always thought Lavar was an easy choice there. That D was fun to watch, and IMO, Arrington stood waaaaaay out.
BTW, i do hold it against Lavar for knocking the hell out of Aikman, so the Karma thing is in play here a little for me too.:D
As for these guys being irresponsible with these big salaries, I make under 6 figures, and I still would never want to endanger my family's financial security by riding a street bike. JMHO.

I was just reading the Dallas News on line. One the front page there is an artical about a 19 year old kid in the Dallas area that is dead now because he fell off of his motorcylce at a high rate of speed.
