One of a few 'All-Star' games in Ohio today is what I got from the announcers.

You are right. The North-South game was played in Columbus yesterday as well. We send all the major talent to the North - South game. It is the big all star game in Ohio and actually the longest running high school all star game in the country. The Big 33 is basically our "C" team, except for 5 or 6 players. Not one OSU commit played in the Big 33 game last night. However, it is "THE" game for Pennsylvania. They get jacked up about it every year. The PA media has actually tried to get Ohio out of the game recently because they are sick of playing our "C" team when they send their best. They want us to send our best, but Ohio has declined in order to keep the North - South game at a high level for local fans. Reason being.... the game is always played in Hershey, PA. They would rather showcase the talent in front of home fans. I can't say I disagree with the Pennsylvania media, however. I don't see the point of playing an out of state all star team without sending your best players. PA won the game last night and I believe that gave them a 1 game lead in the series. Pretty sad if you ask me.
I also find it humorous that they played the Texas all stars for 3 games in the 60's and got waxed 3 times in a row. Guess what? No more Texas on the schedule. lol

I guess Texas didn't send their 'C' teams. :D

The Ohio High School Football Coaches Association has been staging a statewide all-star game since 1946, making the Grange Insurance Ohio All-Star Classic the longest-running high-school all-star game in the nation
I think the Texas Oil Bowl (All-Star Game) started in 1938 and has been played every year since then. In 1945 it became a (Tx vs Ok) game and has been played with that format every since.
I'm just saying that I've heard the Texas Oil Bowl was the oldest All-Star game in the country and now I'm hearing the Ohio All-Star game is the oldest in the country. Who is the oldest ? Just wondering..

No. I am assuming Texas didn't send their "C" teams and I don't think Ohio should either. It is rather embarrassing to be honest. PA takes the game very seriously. If we don't we should get out and let them play someone that does.
You may be right....the one in Texas may be older. They never said it was the oldest, just the longest running. The one in Ohio may have been the longest not to change names or have any breaks in between games. Honestly, I have no idea.

Ya, I'm just saying that I've heard the Oil Bowl was the oldest several times and now I'm hearing that the Ohio All-Star game is the oldest. I know the Oil Bowl "All-Star" game has been played since 1938. It's changed a few times in whose played in it (West Tx vs East Tx) and then (Tx vs Okla) but I know the game has been played every year since 1938.

I looked up the Oil Bowl history and noted there was technically no game in 1944. There was a north-south game in Texas that they just "called" the oil bowl that year. You are right though that the games started in 1938.
The Ohio North/South game started in 1945, so I assume that is why they say it is the longest running game. Technically, it has the longest current streak of games tied with the Oil Bowl, but the Oil Bowl is actually older by 7 years.
Those marketing people can be pretty creative and tricky. lol

Did you see the guy who won a $35,000 scholarship by kicking a 40 yard field goal during half time?

Yeah, it would have been good from 50 yards. That kid really nailed it.

Ya, but the Ohio North South game was started in 1946. The Oil Bowl (Tx vs Ok) matchups started in 1945. Thus, still being the oldest format even thought the game itself started in 1938.
I mean, I really dont care either way. But, I think someone in Ohio didnt know about the Texas Oil Bowl when they stated the Ohio North South game is the oldest HS All-Star game in America.
Although I agree, someone somewhere is being creative and found some "tricky clause" so they could spin something.;)
Either way both All-Stars are pretty old and as far as I know there might be a freaking All-Star game up in Mass. that is older then them both.;)
