that was funny...

more info, on the storm
You guys need to get out, it'll be upgraded to tonight to a cat 5, right now it is a very high cat 4 with maxium sustained winds at 150mph...pressior is about 10 desimals above Katrina at 920, pressior is expected drop, to make this the most powerful hurricane to hit the American cost.

A cat 4 hurricane is expected to hit galviston once every 77 years, there are no stats for Cat 5 in texas

Why is it 12 hours? Because of the traffic trying to get away from the coast?

Yeah...the traffic is moving 5-10 mph on I-45. Estimated time to Dallas is 12 hours at that rate.

I understand that all lanes will be Northbound only later tonight. No southbound traffic til past huntsville, and all exits closed. Can anyone verify this information?

At least that will speed up traffic out of the area... instead of 12 hours to Dallas its going to be 11 :p .

Man I really feel for you guys. There's not anything worse than sitting still in traffic. I think I'd rather get a root canal. But given the strength of this storm, you better get out now. It will only get worse as time goes by.

You know the last major hurricane to hit Houston in 1983 Alicia did 2 million dollars in damage and flooded most of the city and killed several people and it was just a category 3. If this thing is a category 4 or 5 that might be the end of football in Houston this year and it might cancel the whole season for everybody?? and i am being serious!! If it hits at a 5 football will be the least of our worries though.

No Pack. I believe it was 2 Billion dollars and 23 people died. That doesn't sound like a lot of money or deaths compared to Katrina, but one death isn't worth all the belongings in the world.

At least Houston does have one thing going... its not below sea level, inside a natural bowl like New Orleans is... hope the flooding isnt too bad.. and hopefully people will learn from Katrina and get out before its too late...

Yes Alicia did flood the city but the water was gone in a day or two for the most part. Houston has amuch better drainage runoff system than new orleans. But the debris this storm could kick up would be almost overwhelming. Last I heard was 155mph sustained winds with 200mph gusts.

Now everybody will have to go to school at Judson. Wait, the board already thought that was the case! :D

one of my teachers was on some news website today.. the drive from conroe to the woodlands at one point was posted at 4 and a half hours... insane.

I'm in the woodlands and my dad works in greenway plaza or something in downtown houston, he just got off work and he's not expected to be home until midnight...

In seeing the news. I believe it. If he makes it by midnight - going by the way things are going - that's not too bad.

Good Luck everyone. Stay safe.
