View Full Version : LP vs KF Cancelled?

I just called the school ticket office and the lady told me she just received a call from a Mrs. Davis and was told all Lufkin football games were cancelled. She said they just announced it over the intercom at the school. Although I would have loved to be able to watch the game I know there are other things that take priority in this kind of situation. Rita looks to be growing and it is more important that everyone on the coast gets plenty of time to get out of her way.

cancelled??
Yes that is what she said. She said they also announced it over the intercom at the High School. I know the Insurance Broker that sets my appointments for me called me and told me they were shutting down today too and some of the area schools were already closed.

I was told this morning by a coaches wife that they were going to play Thursday night and classes would be cancelled Friday. They must have changed their minds just now or in the past 2 hours??

Yeah I heard the same thing and I also heard someone say that last night at the 7th grade game. I guess it would be too much for KF to be going back and forth with alot of people trying to evacuate the area.

Yeah you are right they did just announce it on the pa system. I just talked to my niece who is a student. Klein cancelled and they might try to schedule the game Monday or Tuesday? Wow!! Not much time to rest between games that is for sure.

Judson's Varsity game is going to be played on Friday still, but the JV 2 game vs Clemens was cancelled, and some of the freshman games were cancelled. I don't know if the JV 2 game is because of Rita, because it was tomorrow, and the freshman games must be because of Rita because they were on saturday.

Well I hope it is on Monday because my son plays on Tuesday at 6pm. We could still make the varsity game but I just hate missing kickoff. I don't like missing any part of the game. We will just have to wait and see what kind of damage will be done to the area. I am sure that will be a big factor in whether they can play on Monday or Tuesday or if they will even be able to play this game at all. We shall see. I know we will have a lot of evacuees coming here so this town will be pretty busy dealing with that. I just hope there are not any tornadoes in our area.

Lufkin is going to have a load of people here from Houston this week. They said to get food and gas now because the shelf's are already clearing. I have to go load up on formula at lunch for my youngest son.

I think they well eventually have to reschedule this game because both kf and lufkin should be in the top 3 spots. If they cannot make it up next week they will find another time to do it in my opinion. I just heard that the walmart gas station is already out of unleaded.

Lufkin folks are not evacuating to my knowledge - people are certainly coming here or coming through here though. Food/water is essentially gone from stores already - or getting that way.

When you have a chance, give a big congrats LP'rs to band parents - many took off work today to start getting concessions ramped up - obviously that was halted with the news of the cancellation.

Certainly would have been difficult to play a game in light of this - I can't imagine you folks in Houston playing games tomorrow - take care out there.

Some in my family just evacuated to Round Rock to my Uncles house. The Austin News is reporting that winds in AUSTIN may reach 90 mph. Wow. :(

Yeah, I live in Round Rock and was watching the news..........I saw the same thing said winds here will be 75 to 100 mph.......Georgetown and Round Rock are filling sand bags......kind of scary to hear that too.

What i'm scared about is tornados.......they always pop up all around these hurricanes.

Had friends calling wanting to come stay here and i'm like man....it might be bad here too.

Some just moved to McAllen.....down by Brownsville......so I think they are safe.

This storm is really scary. I cant even think of anybody staying down in Galveston, Brazoria or Matagorda Counties. I didnt have a good feeling about Katrina and really really dont have a good feeling about Rita.

I'm thinking of the Mississippi coast line and just thinking " My God."

My thoughts exactly ...I am currently calling all of my family and telling them to get the hell out of Lufkin. The good people of Jackson,Mississippi didn't think Katrina would reach them either....they were without power for almost 3 weeks.

Ya.. I think if you're within that 120 mile bubble from the coast. They will be feeling something ( high winds, rain and ect). No doubt if it hits Galveston head on... Lufkin will feel something.

No telling but i cannot imagine going without electricity for 3 weeks with 4 little boys, including an infant?? We get our power from Houston so that is not good!! You might not see any Lufkin fans in here for a while!! Many might be happy with that?? ;)

Pack - I think the good for us is that we're an official evac. center - if the power goes out due to trees - I think it will be brought back on within 2-3 days - which will seem really really long - but it won't be weeks. We're pretty high up on the food chain for repair work - I think you'll see a convoy from Dallas within 24 hours here.

Does anyone besides me feel this storm is going to start curving northeast? I'm as fearful for Bmont right now as Houston. Once it starts curving, why would it stop?

Thanks to all our brothers in Lufkin for helping out with the shelters. But it looks like this darn thing is heading right up 59 to Lufkin.

Don't kid yourself. This things going straight north through East Texas, there is a High pressure system east of Texas that will block this storm from turning east into Louisiana. If it does turn eastward, good news for us and terrible news for New Orleans and Louisiana in general. A double wamie to them on top of all the destruction from Katrina in August. Rita is forecast to come ashore and stall inland until a new cool front approaches Texas Tuesday to pull this mess out of here for good.

Back to football, if things don't get decimated in the Klein and Lufkin areas with this storm. The Klein-Lufkin game could be played on Monday night and you would then have your 5 day rule covered according to UIL rule. Lufkin doesn't play again until Saturday, October 1st @ 7:00 PM in Conroe. The new turf field in Lufkin will drain @ 11 inches per hour, so there should be no problem with the field conditions for a Monday game, if it happens at all.

The main concern right now is for everybody to stay safe and I hope everyone gets through this thing without much damage. Stay in and keep your head down. Wide, I think your missing your chance to have the ultimate Hurricane party in Lufkin.

PA - I would only see this happening of this storm weakens considerably. The traffic on ET highways right now is more parking lot than highway - and the storm will still be pounding us somewhat on Sunday - maybe into Monday a bit - but who really knows. I'm wondering if this week doesn't just get completely thrown out for all Houston area schools - and I guess Lufkin is a Houston school as districts go.

I guess if Houston gets only a glancing blow and not torrential rains KF could make it up here by Monday - but that still seems hard to get together on such short notice.

The tropical storm part is the thing that could stall for a couple of days in the Lufkin area. That means a lot lot lot of rain. Flood!! I am glad Lufkin has been real dry up until now.
