Hope this is a success. Should be a fun one. Thought I should post this if any Lobo fan hadn't seen it yet.
Citywide pep rally Sept. 22 in downtown
LONGVIEW NEWS-JOURNAL - A citywide pep rally celebrating the arrival of fall football and all its high school trappings is set for 8 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Tyler and Fredonia streets in downtown Longview.
Mike Hawkins, chairman of the Longview Partnership's Downtown Development committee that is sponsoring the rally, said it is one of several events planned downtown.
He said in a prepared statement from the Partnership that the committee will plan events for noon Fridays this fall at Heritage Plaza downtown.
"Residents of Longview have made an investment in rebuilding Tyler Street," Hawkins said. "We think it makes sense to invite everyone down to enjoy it."
Teams from Spring Hill, Pine Tree and Longview high schools have been invited to join the rally, along with bands, cheerleaders and drill teams.
Head coaches' remarks will follow introductions each team's players. Performances by bands, drill teams and cheerleaders will follow before a closing prayer from the Rev. Jonathan Jehorek.
Longview Mayor Jay Dean, who will serve as master of ceremonies, agreed the fall plans are ideal for downtown.
"It's exciting to be downtown," Dean said.
"We have dining, retail and museums in addition to government and private offices. The history of Longview is (depicted) in Heritage Plaza. So come on down, support your team and help us discover downtown."
