Just wanted to give yall a heads up that I may be getting out of town depending on what the hurricane does strength/direction wise in the next 24 hours-32 hours. So, champ will have to hold down the fort if I leave and also in case power gets knocked out for an extended period of time down here.

Yes, the computer will be safe regardless if I leave or not. If I don't leave, I'll move it to the interior closet I have. :)

I know a good number of our posters could also be effected and hope they are all able to get out of harm's way if/when this thing gets here.

Meetings were held around the area today and will likely continue to try and move varsity games originally scheduled for Friday/Saturday to Thursday if possible. Some changes have been made official already and subvarsity games moved to Wednesday to accomodate.

Anyway, just keepin' an eye to the sky here in H-town and we'll see what happens.

Katy is like 90 miles from Galveston, I don't think you will get hit so much unless there is going to have Tornadoes to devoleped outside of the Hurricane. Come on and watch our game in Rockwall.

Katy's actually 60 from Galveston, and yes tornadoes can be a problem. Flooding and potential long term power loss are the things that would make me leave. I can hide from the wind, but wouldn't be much fun with no power/no way to communicate with others.

The Woodlands is probably 60 miles from water, Alicia in 83 gave us 70mph winds and no power for 5 days. Its not that dangerous but it is really uncomfortable.

I slept right through most of Alicia that is until the power went out. Though we didn't go anywhere just sat right and home and rode it out. And unless this thing just gets really bad I don't see myself leaving. If this thing turns out to be as big as they are saying everyone in east texas is goign to feel it in some way.

I was in Lufkin when Alicia hit. I remember the roof of our patio flying off ...and landing waaaaay out in the woods...it got pretty bad...and Lufkin is a pretty good hike from Galveston.

I remember when Alicia hit. The forcasters said "100% chance of rain". We didnt get one drop in Shreveport.

They're not saying it so much on the Networks and cable, but some of the more respected hurricane forcasters, like Accuweather.com, say this baby will become a category 4 or 5 at a percnetage of 70% probability. The winds would be well over 100 mph with gusts over 120 and up, at 60 miles inland. This has the possibilty of becoming a storm at or near Katrina strength, though probably not the size. Don't take this lightly, as I heard 3 sites say this one will most likely dwarf Alicia.

Those models are accounting for an increase in strength as the storm draws closer to the ridiculously hot waters near the Texas coast. We are getting record air temperatures for this time of year as well as record temperature surface waters off the coast....not great ingredients for weakening an approaching hurricane. I'm not positive on that, but that seems to be why some of the experts are saying high 3 with a possibility of 4 strength on landfall. A high category three would put max sustained winds around 125-130 MPH I believe.

best of luck to those all who may be affected by the hurricane, always room up here in DFW area for those who need a place to stay, all are welcome!

They predict it to have 140-145 when it hits the coast and continue for a while at 140 a little in midland. Us here at Humble believe there will be no school for the kids, but I don't suspect we will evactuate. They are talking about moving the varsity game to thursday as well and canceling all sublevel games because of homecoming parade tommorrow. I hope for the best of those that are caught in this thing.

Well, if something does happen to your computer, just remember KT, in the pick 'em rankings I've won 78 games.

Humble, this is going to be a Mother Nature style version of "pick your poison" for us it looks like. The models are showing we either take a direct hit or we get the dirty side. Either way, Houston is going to get lashed by this thing. It's turned into a pretty scary scenario over the last 12 hours when it outran the trough that was trying to hinder it's development. As soon as it sped past that, the rapid strengthening began. Now up to 120 sustained winds. Most models still calling for cat 4, possible cat 5 landfall.

If it a direct hit on Galviston, it'll turn north and hit Dallas/East Texas with a tropical depression or a low grade hurricane

This morning they reported it with 135 mph winds, and it has just barely come into the gulf. I think 135 is Cat 4, and 155 is cat 5. If Rita goes the way it is predicted, it is going to get very big because it is travelling over the warm waters of the gulf for longer than Katrina did.

I am telling you, this hurricane is going to be category 5 because its over warm waterm and more time than Katrina.

Yeah, it's almost CAT 5 status.

You guys need to get out, it'll be upgraded to tonight to a cat 5, right now it is a very high cat 4 with maxium sustained winds at 150mph...pressior is about 10 desimals above Katrina at 920, pressior is expected drop, to make this the most powerful hurricane to hit the American cost.

A cat 4 hurricane is expected to hit galviston once every 77 years, there are no stats for Cat 5 in texas

yeah i know ive posted that on all hurricane related posts...just thought i would get out there...
