View Full Version : Carroll vs Fossil Ridge

Fossil Ridge will be at Dragon Stadium Friday night. Ridge and Carroll know each other pretty well which proved to slow down the dragon offense a little last year. Will it be a factor this year? Look for Jacobson to make a statement in this game to the team that knocked him out for most of the season last year.

I think that the off week really woke this team up and they will be ready to play on friday. I expect James Allen to finally grab a couple balls and play good. I have been waiting 3 games for him to actually get something going. It should be a good game, but as always, I expect the Dragons to win big.

#17 will dazzle the crowd

big win over an old friend. td won't want to run the score up, but may have trouble not doing so over a team that plays with only a 7on7 defense. mckay will be done at half time, but should get some measure of revenge.

If this game is not over by halftime, SLC is in trouble. Not against Ridge but against other opponents.
I would be surprised if Ridge scores unless it is SLC two's vs Ridge one's.
Dodge will try to run up the score - - he actually tried to do that last year but they only scored 28. This year will be different

Ridge only defended the pass last year and gave up the run. Dodge was a little stubborn and kept throwing the ball looking for the big strikes. Everytime Luna touched the ball he gained 10-15 yards. Had Dodge stayed with the run SLC would have ran up 50-60 points on Ridge last year.

I did pick Ridge to win though -(completely biased opinion).

sounds like dodge wasn't trying to run up the score at all, if he went away from what was working to develop what needed work.

In last years game there were several missed oportunities that would have made the score a lot worse than it was. Such as a fumble at the 1 inch line, etc. Fridge as struggled this year and will continue to stuggle on Friday night.

As long as the weather holds up and it is dry and not so windy, I say Carroll wins in a blowout. If not they will win but not by as much

I thought the Plano East game would be SLC's return to the dominance of the past couple of years. I under estimated the quality of East's defense.

This week will be warm and dry. The crowd will be hyped after not seeing a total blow-out two weeks ago. The Dragon D is looking good. Running game yet to be consistently good.

Dad, I know we sit on the same side on Friday nites, but how is 31-0 over the largest high school in Texas not a total blowout...PESH never threatened to score...

I cannot see any district rivals causing SLC too much trouble this year. I forecast SLC going 7-0 in district games. Colleyville and Haltom causing the most problems for SLC. The first real challenge for SLC will come in Round 1 of the playoffs, especially if SLC goes to D1 and play Euless Trinity. Comfortable 20 to 30 point wins in all districts games.

Dad, I know we sit on the same side on Friday nites, but how is 31-0 over the largest high school in Texas not a total blowout...PESH never threatened to score...The score was 17-0 in the 4th quarter. SLC's' last touchdown was a gimmie from PESH when they went for it and failed on 4th down deep in their own territory. I guess you could call 31-0 a blowout but I don't think that term fits the way the game played out.

I guess we are just a little spoiled...31-0 with the other team never threatening to score is a blowout...I know how we started, but it's how you end up that counts....

Sounds like a nail-biter to me. The SLC D sounds salty this year - that's quite an accomplishment keeping a pretty decent team out of the zone.

The SLC D sounds salty this year - that's quite an accomplishment keeping a pretty decent team out of the zone.In the metroplex SLC's offense is #2 behind Trinity in yards per game (no surprise).

The defense is also #2 in fewest yards allowed (not normal for a Dragon D which is on the field so much thanks to the quick scoring offense).

PESH had 87 years total offense against SLC.

Coppell's Moody ran wild in the first half but was stuffed for ony 35 yards in the 2nd half.

I think this will be Newton's breakout game. I've said for a couple weeks now that I don't think Newton should ever come out of the game. That's just my opinion. I think he's too explosive to be sitting on the sideline half of the game.

SLC will roll. I am expecting a min 1/2 a 100 on the board and winning by over 35. The only team in the area that can give the Dragons a game in the area is a game that will never take place. Trinity could give SLC all they wanted who would win would be interesting total different types of game.

A team will play SLC and look up at the board and suddenly see they have scored 60 and are beating you by 40. Game over nothing more to say. You just move on.

When playing Trinity you will look up at the board they will have scored 40 be up by 30. But you are begging them to please not ram the ball up your rear one more time. You will have nightmares of that game for the next 6 months.

Both very effective but I would rather play SLC. At least your not curled up in the fetal postion afterwards.

Carroll has played plenty of running teams who have'nt been able to score...Trinity would probably be no different IMO

Did not say Carroll would not win. Just think it would be an interesting game. The two best running games that SLC face was Katy and Smithson Valley but niether really hammer you into submission like this years Trinity. If I were playing I would rather take my beating from SLC than the battering from Trinity. It is the difference between getting cut by a surgical knife or being pummeled by a sledge hammer. Both can kill, the knife is just a little less painful.

I agree it would probably be the most interesting matchup in our area...I also agree that defending the run against a battering ram of an offensive line can give you a headache....chasing 8 quality Carroll receivers, with a run mixed in occasionally, can leave you ...breathless.... ;)

Yeah Larry Carter is a very quick scat back. Ridge is very young this year. I think about 6 sophomores and one freshman are on varsity. They should be a lot better next year.

Meant that we have 8 starting caliber receivers....wears out the DB's...Newton went for 125 on the ground tonight..he was tough to bring down...I didn't hear the stats but I believe SLC had more rushing yards than passing tonight. Newton was fast with great moves (which we've already seen) but he was especially impressive with his power running. Ran through lots of tackles and made tons of yards after the first or second hit. McElroy and Riley ran and passed great. Renfrow didn't play but Fentriss played that spot extremely well and had lots of catches. Jacobson didn't have many yards but had two touchdowns. Ortega is becoming a stud as a kicker. Kicked a couple of long FGs and boomed at least 4 kick-offs out of the end zone. Offense was firing on all cylinders. Defense was not as impressive as the last couple of games. F.Ridge is a good team and will win some games this year.

It would be a stretch to say that Riley passed "great". Maybe if he actually decided to pass the ball instead of taking it down and running every play he could pas "great"
