lonny has recently published his list of neer do wells who might as well get the b balls inflated. it started me wondering, is there a time and have we reached it where lonny etal will be able to declare that a certain list, like the top 25 or whatever will definitely include both of this years state champs? are there ones so confident in their judging of the states powers to say for sure that they have narrowed down the list of potential state champions to a select group?

I will guarantee you that this years champs in D1 and D2 have not been eliminated on my list yet. The first time I wrote the list, I put out too many teams and put some back in. There are 109 teams left on my list and the 2 champs will come from that list. As the weeks go by and I eliminate the teams, I will slightly increase my odds of being wrong.
I could be dead wrong and completely miss on a team, but the odds are that the 2 champs will show something during the year to indicate they might win a title. I might keep Irving and McAllen Memorial on the list all year because they have stud RB's. It does seem like McAllen relies to much on Stephens and I'm not picking them, but he can win a game almost by himself.
KT2000 gave his list of 8 teams that he thinks the 2 champs will come from with 2 maybes and it's the same 10 teams I'm looking at to really contend for the title.
Euless Trinity
Spring Westfield
Galena Park North Shore
Converse Judson
Trinity almost has a pass to the title game and the 2 Houston schools come out of Region 3 to play Judson.
Southlake Carroll
Lufkin
Longview
Copperas Cove
Katy
Smithson Valley
Carroll, Katy and SV basically have a pass in their region and the other guys can fight it out for Region 2.
Other teams can jump up and that's why I left so many teams on the list. Other people will basically say they have an idea, too. They just might not be as bold as me! ;)

what prompted me to bring this up was recalling the 02 season when no one would have allowed a slc or sv fan to predict that they would be playing for all the marbles. since the demise if the old board, there is no way to find out when those 2 teams crawled out of the muck and onto the top 20 rosters, but it was much later in the season for both. is there a beneath the radar team like those 2 some where in the obscurity? could cujo or plano rise from the ashes? could haltom catch fire with their 2 studs and find their way into the limelight. longshots all, but so were the dragons and the rangers.

I do like Plano as I stated before the season started. Haltom and Colleyville are the surprise teams of 5-5a Neither team will "catch fire" when the playoffs start. They will during district play though.

whoever rides into the po's as the d-1 rep will be hard pressed to play on as et is the first round matchup, and will likely be rolling still come november.

I'm on the lookout for somebody like that. I didn't see Clear Lake jumping up and beating Katy last year even though they only had 1 loss. SV had played for the title the year before in 4A and SLC got to the semis, so we had an idea they would at least be decent.

you were in a mighty small group if you thought that about sv and slc. they were branded as wannabes from the get go who would be paying dues for a year or 2 simply for the privilege of playing with the big boys.

I remember people saying Carroll would be lucky to go 5-5 with no playoffs. I also remember people saying that Carroll should just try not to get anyone hurt when they play the almighty Lewisville team.

The Marcus score was 63-7 in week 6 and the Lewsiville score was 52-14 in week 8.
I guess we should keep our eyes open for another un-noticed school this year.

So possible match ups in region 2 would be Lufkin/Lview in the third round. Will the winner get Cove in the qtr. finals? Then the qtr final winner will prolly see SLC in the semis. My bet on the two semifinal games is Lview or LP vs. SLC and Katy vs. SV.

10/4. Katy and SV play in the semis except if Katy somehow goes D1. Region 2 is a killer because Longview and Lufkin play in Round 3 and the winner gets Cove only to play SLC in the semis. There could be an upset, but the odds are stacked that it will play out that way.

I'd be lying to you if I said I thought they'd get to the title game before the year in 2002 because 4A teams that moved up in the past struggled more. I didn't know how they would do. SV lost to Westlake during the regular season that year and I was thinking that they might lose to them in the playoffs. When SV won, I knew they were a force to be reckoned with. I didn't lean one way or the other about their game with Madison. SLC was totally different. They were so dominant point-wise that I considered them a threat all year.

Don't discount Pflugerville. If they could fix the turnover problem they could easily be sitting 3-0 right now.

It certainly takes an exceptional team to make it through regions 1 and 2. I guess Cove beating Lview or LP would be an upset. I don't know anything about Cove but I don't think they can hang with LP or Lview. I would say LP or Lview beating SLC is an upset but I really don't think it would be. They are a great team but I don't think they will make it too state again. The dream run has to end somewhere and I think LP or Lview will take them this year....assuming we all make it.

"Katy and SV play in the semis except if Katy somehow goes D1."
I was thinking that Katy was only the 5th largest school in their district. I seem to remember reading that last year, but not sure. Have they grown, or are there two smaller schools that look good in their district this year? I've seen the "Katy DI" comment a couple of times on the forum and I'm curious. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks.

My Picks for the team might go to state are:
Division 1 Playoffs
Spring Westfield Best Offense and Defense Overall
Judson
Euless Trinity Possibly will win state but there problem is they need to improve there defense against Converse Judson or Spring Westfield or Galena Park North Shore when they meet in State for sure.
Division 2 Playoffs
Southlake Carroll One of the Best Offense and possibly play Abilene in the playoff.
Longview Possibly play Lufkin in Quarterfinals and will be a very good matchup according to Vondrell McGee and Chris Ivory if no injuries for them.
Lufkin Best Defense in State.
Katy Will play against Smithson Valley in Semifinals
Smithson Valley Will reach all the way to Semifinals against Katy for sure.
So... They are my predictions for the playoff

Katy Taylor, Alief Taylor, and Strake Jesuit are all smaller and could beat out Elsik, Hastings, and Cinco Ranch. Behind Katy, it's wide open based on pre-district results. Elsik played a real tough non-district schedule and will probably be the D1 rep. But not necessarily.

I agree with all of these. Two long shots I'll add are Abilene and The Woodlands (have to have someone from Reg. 2)

I'm not picking this team to go long, but Dallas Carter has been really over looked since theyre struggle vs. Sam Houston. However Sam Houston has one the more explosive offense in the state, and Kimball and Garland have good decent. Theyre 3-0 and maybe be good for upsetting some teams overlooking them in the postseason.

Both may be longshots but only Woodlands is from region 2, Abilene is Region 1.

I know that. Should have put a separation. The other post didn't have a Div. 1 team from Reg. 2. Abilene would get SLC in Div. 2. (I think 3rd round)

Is it possible that the "Buffalo Stampede" could make some noise if they survive round 1 in Div. 1, Reg. IV ?

Carter is in a great position with highschool followers saying we want to play Carter because they'll lose early in the playoffs, their district is weak, or any other scenario that looked to be true in the past other than their state semi-final two seasons ago. I see these post all over this forum and others as well. Wacthing this team and following the season will be pretty interesting. So what you're saying is so true and hopefully football teams will overlook them too.

Anybody that beats Judson is...
good enough to lose the next week! :D At least that's what happens most of the time.
Seriously, I expect them to get to the semis if they beat Judson. If they knock the Rockets off, they might do more damage than that.
