I thought I asked about this earlier. Now I cant find where I did, so I guess I'm losing my mind.
Anyway.
What determines Div I or II?

Each district has 3 schools that makes the play-offs. Of those three schools the one with the highest attendance goes to division 1, the others go to division 2.

The size of your enrollment. 3 teams go to the playoffs in each district and the one with the highest enrollment goes to div1. That is why it can very each year. It will not vary if you are the biggest in your district or the smallest. the biggest will always go div1 and the smallest will always go div2 obviously. Stupid system but that subject has been beat to death.

3 schools from each district make the playoffs...the largest of the 3, by enrollment is classified D-1...the other 2 are D-2, hence the xtra week of D-2 playoffs...more teams

This board might be better served by having a permanent thread that explains D1 vs D2. This topic is interesting but this is also at least the third thread that talks about it.
The only determining factor is size of high school population. 3 teams from each district make the playoffs with the school with the largest student population goes to D1 and the other two go to D2.
It is not always fair and sometimes schools like Allen with around 4000 students go D2 because they are in the same district as Plano. They then play teams like SLC who has a student poplulation of approx 2400.
And as they say "Size does not really matter it is just what you do with it!"

Why is not fair for the div2 school's when a team like Allen goes to div2. They usually get torn up in div2. Lufkin demolished them in the playoffs in back to back years in the 2000's. Not to mentioned SLC embarrassed them. Oh you were probably being sarcastic i just realized that?? LOL

Lewisville was the 1st to win both the D1 and D2 titles. Winning the D2 title in 93 followed by the D1 title in 96. Midland Lee also has won a DI and D2 title winning the D2 title in 98 and the D1 title in 99 and 2000, I believe Katy completed the task by winning the D2 title in2000.

plano may also have won both d's, though that would have meant pesh was bigger at one time. can't say for sure. probably not.

Plano has never won a D2 title, In fact Plano has only participated in the Division 2 bracket twice, 2000 and 2001.

The 3 teams mentioned are the only teams to win both divisions. The best part is D1 and D2 was somewhat created to offset Judson and it made the Rockets stronger. They went to 2 title games and won 2 titles in 5A from 1980-1989. It's OK to say they were awarded one of them if you so choose.
In D1, they have 4 titles and 7 title games since 1990. One more title and I'm going to start calling for the D1 trophy to be called the Judson Memorial Trophy! :D

Are you implying that Judson is Dead! A memorial trophy is so named in memoriam of a deceased entity. The Judson Trophy, maybe but not the Judson Memorial Trophy.

No, I'm not implying they're dead. Half the board would tell you I think they walk on water and turn it into wine!

No, I'll leave that for SLC fans!OK I'm in. I think the "Judson Memorial Trophy" is aptly named since the rocket has spent it's fuel. R.I.P. :p
