I vote this kid to be the "Man of the week"! Give him praise for stepping up!

15 year old Collin Cherry of Cy-Ridge high school has taken it upon himself to play the honorary "Taps" with his trumpet for the verterans being buried at Houston National Cemetary this Saturday.

With all of the verterans being laid to rest, there just aren't enough trumpet players available to play a live version of taps these days. An electronic digital recording of "taps" has been played when there is no one available to have the honor. "They are our war veterans" Cherry said, "They should have a trumpet playing at their burial".

WHAT AN OUTSTANDING YOUNG MAN!!!!! This kid deserves to be on the national news!!

Way to Go Collin! My uncle was buried with honors at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetary in San Antonio. He fought and was wounded on Guadalcanal in WW2 and it was a powerful service. These heroes deserve the best we've got to give when they pass.

My Dad said on time they had to use the old taps recording (he does the honor guard on Ft. Sam) and in the middle it started to skip a little bit. He ended up playing TAPS with hs mouth it was a funny story.

He does sound like an awesome kid. Maybe someone should suggest to some of the band parents that the band kids explore making that a service project. Give them the opportunity to be a part of something by giving back to those who risked life and limb for us. Just a thought.

Maybe this will catch on. It's a good thing no doubt.
