I don't know which board this goes on this there is no official "pwning" board (though there should be), but Texas just wrapped up another one of Dollar Bills Lone Star Showdowns. Texas finished ahead of A&M at the Big XII T&F championships thus securing the lead in the points standing and keeping Texas unbeaten in Dollar Bill's stupid "we are relevant" race. And people wondered why Deloss Dodds openly laughed at Dollar Bill when he first dreamed up this thing.

Didn't I read in the paper this morning that the Texas A&M women won the Big 12 Outdoor T&F title? Does that not count in the Lone Star Showdown standings?

It does but A&M is now mathematically eliminated from winning this year. We got much closer than ever before and had a great showing in the money sports so even though we lost, there is a sliver lining. (Moral Victory noted :D )

I guess it comes down to how much that showdown means to each of us. Would it mean more to me if A & M won it? ....probably, but I have the luxury of not giving a damn so I think I will just enjoy the great year as it has played out:D

Most Horn fans I've encountered dont care about it at all. They expect to win it and too be honest with you so does just about everyone else in the state and country.
What it says to me is that Mr Bryne has basicly set Texas as the bar for which he wants the Aggie athletic program to be at. Nothing wrong with that at all considering they one of the top 2 schools in America for sports. The sad thing is though is Dollar Bill will never come out and admit they want to be Texas.
I will hand it to the Ags, they have improved tons, the sad thing for the Ags is that I think they would be in the lead of this event had they not lost the one sport that is their bread and butter and that is womens soccer

I does count. I believe Texas still holds a one point lead with baseball left to play. If the Ags somehow find a way to take 2 of 3 from Texas this weekend (very very unlikely) then they would be tied as far as points go but Texas would be declared the winners and retain the trophy since the rule in the event of a tie states; The school who currently holds the trophy will retain the trophy and be declared the winner.

First statement is true. Second statement is most certainly not.

Not the in the eyes of Aggies but thats the way a lot of other people see it. If I were a fan of a team outside of Texas I would kill for my athletic program to be what Texas is.

I'm a fan of A&M and I would kill for our program to be what Texas' is. However, no Aggie, in any way, wants to BE Texas.

When it comes to athletics you cant get much better than that though.

Dollar Bill said back when he was the AD at Nebraska that Texas was a model and a benchmark. That's why he opposed allowing Texas to join the Big 8. He knew and said publicly that the Big 8 schools, Nebraska included, could not compete with Texas' overall athletic program and he was right. Just look at the Big XII North.

How long as Deloss been in charge? It's amazing that Dollar Bill would say that back then because the Texas athletic program had hit a lull in production. The last 8-10 years is really when they've exploded and reached the potential everyone knew was there.

Texas' overall athletic department has been great for many years. The football program hit a lull, but Texas did win the very first Big XII championship in football so I don't know how big that lull really was. Other sports like T&F, women's basketball, baseball, etc. kept Texas athletic dept. among the top 10 or so in the nation, even while football and men's basketball struggled some. Look at Stanford. Many consider them the best athletic dept. out there despite the fact that their football team is atrocious and their basketball team isn't much better. Their overall program is carried by other sports.
BTW, DeLoss has been the AD at Texas for 26 years. He's seen Texas win 12 national titles and 86 conference titles in that time.

Good gosh. 86 conference titles
I know he is in charge of mens athletics only now so is Texas one of the only schools to have a seperate mens and womens AD?
The 96 championship game still has to haunt the fans of the Corn and Bill. Everyone outside of the 40 acres felt NU would win that game do so going away.

I want to say UCLA has two ADs and I think Nebraska did for a while back in the 80s. I don't know if they still do.
