Developing weather situation could have an impact on the Texas Coast this weekend. Right now, Rita is tentatively projected to hit Galveston as a hurricane on either Friday or Saturday. If it stays on the predicted track, games will obviously be in serious doubt whereever it has an impact.

Current models predict a Cat 3/4 Hurricane landfall near Freeport, TX. Mandatory evacuation procedures in Galveston begin tomorrow at 2 pm. Now is the time to stock up on supplies as lines will only get longer if it stays on the current course.

Obviously, no reason to panic but it never hurts to have a plan and start thinking about what you'll need to do to protect your yourself, your family and important possessions if it does hit. Mother nature means business as we saw with Katrina and numerous other storms in the past.

If district games get cancelled will they be rescheduled or will there just be an asterisk next to that game? I don't see how they could reschedule

Hopefully not too much rain in College STation. I'd imagine that district games will have to be made up in such a hurricane scenario.

Yes I heard about this 2 days ago, It won't hit us (Tyler) which is yay for me but my problem is that I have many friends from Houston including my families from all over Houston. I wonder if they will evaution Houston but I know Deer Park would be because there only 10 miles from the bay. This is pretty scary stuff. Galveston is like 10 ft above the ground (the seawall) which will take alot of good advantages to the city of Galveston.

And, just as importantly, the Cold Play concert at The Woodlands Pavilion Saturday night is in jeopardy - yikes.

It could hit us. It won't be as strong but we need the rain.

My yard needs rain too...just not 24 inches in 5 hrs!!!
Any answer yet on what happens if there is no football this weekend due to Rita? Will they be rescheduled? Nothing bad meant by this but I hope it goes into Mexico somewhere.

I don't see how they could reschedule them because the playoffs start. Games have been PPD in the past, and those teams just finish the reg. season with one less game to their credit usually. Unfortunately, football games can't be played rapid fire style like baseball/basketball :( .

I hope this thing doesn't hit us, but at the same time, you don't want it to hit LA/MS again either. The "best" place it can hit and have the smallest impact on people and the economy is for the area north of Brownsville and south of Corpus. However, I'm sure those people want this thing to hit about as much as we do.

I've got a beach house down near san luis pass. Our elevation is about 2 inches. :)

I fly home on Wednesday. If the storm is still headin' that way, I'll be down there taking the boat inland and then going back down to resuce my jetskis. :)

This is going to sound bad, but I'd almost hope it hits New Orleans if it has to hit somewhere on the US coast. Why? It's already fubar'ed, and there's no one living there right now.

Lol rescue your jetski before the storm would be scary, just look at the clouds.

We need rain also.

C'mon to San Antonio. We'll take care of you. Heck, we're takin' off work pretty regular to help with the able bodied folks who think it is their God Given right to have someone spoon feed them.
I know I sound like a bigot. That's not it at all. There comes a time when people have to stand up for themselves. Of course everything they had is gone. All of the essential needs are being met. What I have a problem with is people setting on their duffs while volunteers do the mundane stuff that they can do for themselves. It's been three weeks now. They're welcome to stay and I don't have any problem supplying their needs. But I think it's time for them to cook and clean for themselves! I don't need to get on my soapbox on this forum. Sorry. Erase it if it offends anyone mod's.

these were people who probably had the same behavior when in no too. tough to change stripes when you've lived a certain way for quite some time. being uprooted certainly hasn't helped their situation any, or given them any resolve to change. it's tough and there isn't any end in sight.

I kind of think it would be best if hit New Orleans again, I mean the less people there, the less chance of anybuddy getting hurt...

No Way! Levees are too weak and it would cost way extra money to do things that they have to redo espcially power.

Flush it! It's a toilet bowl anyway. Since most of the folks are out, go ahead and do the country a favor. The gulf coast could use another deep port terminal. Let them build one right over the Superdome.

Does that mean no football game this week? I wondered how these games were going to be played on Thursday if there are mandatory evacuations taking plae now.
