All right fellas, I've found the girl for me. No doubt. I need some advice from the guys that have been here, at this point. I have more than half what I need for the ring I've found for her. I was blessed with a very modest girl who neither expects or has use for a huge rock. I work full time, a morning shift, and have school in the late afternoon/evenings. Is there any such thing as work I could do from home or something to help me expedite the process & make the rest of this money? Did y'all have this same issue? What were some of the things you did? Any advice would be appreciated.

assuming you are young and getting started...

ms_mad got a band...it matches mine...
on our 10th anniversary...she got the rock ($15,000+)...which she wears behind the band...
don't kill both of you on something like a ring when you are starting out...

A little older than young and finishing what I started a few years ago.:)

Take all that you've made, go to Winstar, and play a hand of blackjack. You'll double up and have the money you need in no time:)

I got lucky. My mom passed down a ring to me. She told me when I found the right girl to give it to her. Worked like a charm. :D

I know that you know this, but there are no shortcuts..buy her what you can afford now...shower her with love, and buy her what you really want when you can afford it.

I'm with the other guys on this thread. It might be soooooooo romantic to go into debt for a rock, but she'll appreciate it more if you give her something modest and don't have to penny pinch in the future. Don't let the salesman guilt trip you into spending more than you want to.

Also, check out estate sales. It's a great way to get a nice rock at a lower price, and you can have it mounted in a band of your choice. You don't have to go to the jewler to find nice stuff.

I've found that starting out with set habits of trying not to spend more than you have is the way to go. If you get accustomed to living beyond your means, then it's hard to break those habits.

Best of luck to ya....I'm just starting out, too, and its lots of fun and lots of challenges at the same time.

Modest is the best, especially starting out...Help also helps if she is a coach and a coaches daughter, which understands the time you will be putting in.

I was 8 years into my career when I got married so I had savings to buy the ring. But I agree with everyone advising you not to go into debt. Debt = bad always except a mortgage. Still tax deductible!:)

The one other suggestion I would make is go for quality over size. A very good friend of mine and I got married 2 months apart. He bought a diamond over 1 carat. I bought one that was ½ carat. We spent about the same money on each ring. The difference is amazing. Go for colorless and clarity (VS2 or better if you can) over size. Remember, she will have this ring for the rest of her life.
