View Full Version : South vs. Rowlett

This is a huge game to open district especially for Garland. Garland wants south to win in hopes of Rowlett not making the playoffs so Garland can go in as big school. If Rowlett does make it to the playoffs however this could determine who ends up and plays Longview in the first round

this should turn out to be a good game, but ill prob. end up going to the north v. sachse game just to watch north put sachse in their place.
didnt ever think id be sayin this one, but good luck to south. hope yall come out w/ a win

Why do you want to go to D1?
Is it for a rematch with Lee?
Less games to State?
Both??
If you go D2...
More games...yeah!!
Possible re-match with Carter...
You may get to play Longview, Cove, or Lufkin.
And you may even get to play the nation's best!!!
D2 aLL the WAY!!!!

I think the reason the Owls want to go D1 is to avoid Longview/Carter/SLC... (and I can't that I blame them)
And yes, the one less game to State is good too. From the looks of it, Rowlett is going to be a pretty serious player in the district race this year. The Owls have got to get everyone back healthy. There were a few players that I didn't see playing vs Carter that could have helped.
As for the game vs Carter, what can you say? Two really good teams. Seemed to be a pretty good matchup. The one "BIG" thing that Carter had in their favor was the size of the O-Line. Those cats were LARGE. All in all though, it was a really good, competative game. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

I agree with you, and yes we do need everyone back healthy. I think the person that can make the biggest difference for us when he comes back against district could be OL Jeremy Kennedy. Hes big 6'3 300 and will help us against bigger teams such as carter. Also Deavin Mcdowell will be back by district too and i think that is all the main injuries

uh, can you guys tell me why you're wanting g-town to dodge teams in the playoffs? you're making garland look and sound weak. garland shouldn't care who they get....whether it's the opening round, rematch or state!
this idea of..."south needs to beat rowlett to help garland" is crap. when you make a run for state you don't say "man i hope we don't have to play the hard teams in the playoffs"....you say.... "bring it on.....anyone!"

we'll play whoever - tyler lee would be nice simply because we would get to host a playoff game at Williams for the first time in about 50 years...
let us not forget that, while the idea of playing Longview may seem like a tough chore for us, the idea of playing Garland MAY seem like a tough chore to them, too...

There are no size restrictions. Garland and Lee flipped for home field last year - had Garland won the toss, the game would have been played at Williams instead of Rose. North Garland hosted Longview in the first round last year at Williams...

I think some of what you see isn't dodging the good teams, it's frustration. For so many years we had good teams, only to be knocked out in the first round by the Plano/Richardson district when it was a real power, or the East Texas schools when we were matched up with them, as we are now. Owl fans don't mind playing these teams, we just wish we were playing them in the Regional finals or Semifinals, when we should be playing them. It's tough to see San Antonio schools basiclly get a bye the first two or three rounds each year or a 5-6 Skyline playing the second round each year when we know we could clobber them. I know it's just the luck of the draw, but it gives the impression that we are a paper district with the good records and then 1-and-outs in the playoffs. We deserve to be playing at least one or two weeks further in the playoffs, most years, but by luck of district alignment, we draw teams that are better than us moreso than many districts do, and I think you see a bit of that frustration in posts that seem to want us to catch a break like that.

Both Williams and HBJ seat 15,000, and both have seen many 5a playoffs. Garland played Lufkin in Ennis in 03, and that stadium must seat around 10,000 max,

That is an excelent point. It is very frustrating to play Tyler Lee/Lufkin/Lonveiw when teams like Skyline or Jesuit move on because they have no competition. I remember last year Jesuit beat Samuel in the first round of the playoffs so my dad tried to argue that Jesuit was better than Garland!!! Samuel was horrible!!!! Its a shame really.

There is still no way that those East Texas schools should beat Garland that bad. Garland, year in and year out, has some of the best athletes in the state. If you look at the last 5 years I bet Garland High has more Division 1 scholarships giving to them then those East Texas schools. You people, Garland, have to see that by now. I know that is a tough first round, but there is now way that Longview should beat them by 45. Garland had just as many of athletes as Tyler Lee did last year. With all of those athletes the last 5 years and only 1 playoff when something has to give. Tired of all the excusses. Garland should go deep every year with those kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ease up on Garland a bit. I don't know if you can say that they were beat by Lee "that bad". It was 28-10, which, with the exception of the state championship game (28-21 i believe), was the closest game Lee played in the playoffs last year. It was also a home game for Lee, as has been mentioned before. Not making excuses, just want to bring a little perspective to the discussion.

Yeah, but when we do gain size, strength, and numbers and therefore start competing down the line, I'll have plenty of "good" excuses to use when we underachieve. I'll just look back to the "many" the Owls have used over the past years!!

Dodging the best teams?
Playing Desoto in preseason every year, playing Ennis, Carter, and PESH the past 2 years; PLAYING LONGVIEW, LUFKIN, AND LEE in the playoffs the past three years. Good lord. I dont give a rats *** if it is taking the easy way out. We have played the best teams in the state first round year in and year out... so excuse us for wanting to squeeze out of the first round when we have a good team. It sucks for Garland who always has a decent team to go far in the playoffs because we play Longview/Lee and used to play Lufkin in the first round. I would like to see your teams do the same. We have already won state in D2, now we are going to win it in D1. As for trying to get out of playing hard teams... we have alot of guys hurt because we played those kind of teams in the preseason. Just because we want to try and get out of the first round does not mean that we are trying to take the easy way. We just want out of East Texas.
Yeah we lost to Carter- enough said. They are for real this year. And maybe we can have a rematch. But as of now we are 2-2 with the hardest games behind us. Now lets go take care of district.

Yeah, but you gotta remember, Rough's team hasn't won a district game yet. Heck let him bash us all he wants because our excuses of losses against premier state powers pale against his excuses of why his team can't score a touchdown against some of the more average teams in the state, much less a regional power like the Owls. Let him beat his chest when they beat Molina or Boles Home, but lets see his bunch beat somebody that plays real ball, and he can hoot all he wants, until they get clobbered the next week.

I'm not bashing the Garland Owls. But I will say this. Every year they have the best athletes in the Metroplex and maybe the state year in and year out. I have coached against both Garland and Tyler Lee and the athletes are very similar. You can't tell me that Naaman Forest, who has betting Jordan's team twice, has better athletes than Garland. Why don't the play to the potential? Just wondering. I

You are obviously not a true Garland fan. Anyone who has been around Garland will tell you that yes year in and year out Garland has some good kids. But better than East Texas? Give me a break. There are 7 schools in the GISD and that dilutes everything. Also anyone who has watched the Garland schools play over the last two years will tell you one thing was certain....South Garland by far had the best kids in the district over that time. At least Garland has been to the playoffs consistently. What about the other Garland schools? Is it time for something to give with them as well. Why haven't all their head coaches been fired? Up until the point this became an all garland district there was no other team from Garland that was competitive except for GHS. Name me one playoff win other than lakeview in 1989 from another garland school that is of any consequence.

They do get the best kids. All of the best athletes go to Garland. You know, as well as I now, that they recruit every decent athlete in Garland, Rowlett and Sachse. Why would kids that live in Sachse go to Garland High? Let me think....for football. They get to pick and choose. They have more Division 1 football players then any of those East Texas schools. So quit whinnng about those east texas schools having better athletes.
