12-5A opens with a bang with this one at Hamby-coming off a barn-burner
against Duncanville, can the Skeets continue its momentum while at the same
time find a way to slow McGee & Ivory?

Mesquite was 0-4 coming into Lobo Stadium last year, and for about 3 quarters they gave us everything we wanted. I doubt this year will be any different. It should be a good game, but Longview will take it to them. McGee and Ivory will run for huge gains, and our D will clamp down on the Skeeters. I hope both teams come out without injuries, but the Lobos should come out on top. The boys just have to continue playing their game, and not take ANY team lightly. That was our problem with Mesquite last year. We came in expecting to beat them because they were 0-4. They almost pulled an upset.

You're partly right.
At half time it was 10-7 Lobos. We played very poorly (dont know why) but we awoke in the 2nd half and spit off 18 in the 3rd and 7 in the final stanze to make the score 35-7.
Longview was coming off a tough game with Evangel in overtime. This season, Longview coming off one of the worst performances by an Evangel team and the Lobos scored 50 for the first time since 1999.
The Lobo D has shown improvement from last season already.
I see Longview take this one but like last year I see it turning ugly in the 2nd half.
The thing for the Skeeters they could EASILY be 1-3 but things have gone right and they're 3-1. 3 of their 4 games have been decided by 7 points or less, 2 of them by 2 points. They could easily be 4-0 also had they had something go right for them againist Allen. But they lost 12-10. Beat North Garland 16-14. And beat Duncanville 44-37 in overtime.
The thing for us is we need to hold them below 20 points and let our offense do it's thing and we'll come out with the W.

Anyone know where to get a roster? If not, does anyone know anything about their standout players, stats, etc.?

This will be a good game. I really expect it to be. In the end, I'm not sure if Mesquite has enough, but they will compete well I believe. They will need some breaks to win for sure.

I'd say that the odds probably favor Longview. Mesquite will only fare as well as the defensive line's performance. The offense will need all starters playing and doing so mistake and turn over free. By the way, if Kelly Page is still hurting from that hit he took against Duncanville last week and either doesn't play or doesn't play effectively.....they're in for a long night.

I'm going to this one b/c I think it will be good at least for 3 quarters. From what I understand they had some injuries last year and hung pretty good with us for a while. Longview wears you down woth the run though and will pull away in the end...plus we pass better this year. We are a better all round team.

The odds probably favor us? IMHO Longview will stomp Mesquite. Longview will be ready for this game. This team is the most stable and explosive team I've seen in a while at Longview. Probably since the 1997 team. Last years team was great, but there is just something about this years team that is different, and special. We'll see on Friday if I'm right!

Yeah....'probably' was the word I used there. Hey, you may very well be right with your honest opinion. I've seen nothing in the first four games Mesquite has played that would absolutely convince me that they could stop or even slow down a team the likes of Longview. I'm not making any bold predictions at such an early stage in the season. All I really want from this year's team, particulary with a sophomore QB at the helm, is to see them improve from week to week and glean good habits from each team they face. For me, it's really all about next year and the year after anyway.
Thanks for the reply and good luck!
See ya' at Hanby on Friday!

I agree with something being different about this year's team.
Last year's team, no doubt was a good team. But this year. Wow. Our passing game looked crisp againist Evangel, even though I think we still have some places that will need to be improved before the playoffs, this team is far above the team from last year at the current time.
Last year, we had started to let down and we became a 2nd half team except againist Lufkin.
This year, we've played almost every quarter to the fully we can. The 3rd quarter worried me but in the 4th we came right back firing, well the 2nd team did LOL.
Im exciting for sure but still a long season ahead of us. Good luck to you guys after Friday...See ya Friday! Hopefully we dont get any rain, Im sure all Lobo fans remember the last time we visited Hanby Stadium...ugh. 2 hour rain delay only to see a 42-14 win.

I remember the last time we were at Hamby against Horn. I was there through the entire rain delay. What was sad was the majority of the fans left were on our side. We had to travel 2+ hours for the game, and we still had more fans that were there through to the end. THAT is fan support.

The only people I really saw left from our side was the band and the viewettes. I sure stayed there through the end.
It was fun sitting there screaming like crazy. I believe at first you were sitting behind me. Then when the lightning struck I ran like crazy under those dang bleachers.
