Since everyone has played at least three games, I thought it would be cool to look at the top scoring offenses, defenses, and the top teams according to scoring margin.
I'll update this page each week. Check it out and discuss...

I am sure they will be better than before because There more focusing on district and without losing any games to go 60 wins in 4 years.

there is a strong case for about 8 teams to be #1 right now. Trinity needs to concentrate on other things than being #1, like winning a district championship something they did not do last season
Neat to look at. These will change drastically for a lot of teams by sos. ;)

If I were picking the No. 1 team in the state right now, knowing what I saw last year from a bunch of under classmen and looking at the stats, I would have to put Westfield at the top. I know they faltered in the finals last year, but if they played like they played the week before..........Hmmm...man. They were pretty impressive and they seem to be right there again this year. I'm not belittling anyone else, just my opinion.

you make a good point, SLC, Trinity, Westfield, and probally a few more teams all make a strong case right now, it wont be weeks til this gets a tad bit easier to figure out. but i give the nod to SLC, the depth we have on offesne is insance, espically WR, wait till greg and the wr's start clicking ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh mannn, and moorefield and newton, they'll start producing big soon, and that defense looks pretty dang good, plus im a lil biased as well...but like i said quite a few teams can make a case to be number one

Having a bad day ?
probally -should be 'probably'
til - should be 'till' or 'until'
offesne - as you were quick to inform me is 'offense'
espically - should be 'especially'
insance - should be 'insane'
Have I made my point or do I have to keep correcting your errors.

2005 Team Scoring Leaders (http://www.5atexasfootball.com/05scoringleaders.htm)
KTCHAMP,
Let me help you a bit...The Longview Lobos defense has only had 30 points scored on them...Evangel scored 14 points on kickoff returns, not on the Lobo defense...so the Lobos have only given you 30 points on defense...I just get (LOBO) Green whenever the question is asked about Trinity and Carroll, when I know all they do is pile up points on teams even when the game is well past over...the Lobos have played their starters the entire game in just one game this year...it is OK you guys go on post your Dallas teams and ignore the Lobos, but know this if we were to play the starters the entire game against many of these team we would shutdown the UIL with so many lopsided victories...I am in no way saying we have the best team in the state, but to this point right now, I think no one is better...five games played 187 points scored and many of those points have been scored by the second team, again five games played and the defense have given up 30 points with many of those stops being made by the second team defense...OK I have spilled my guts so i digress...I feel better, no need to elevate the Lobos, we will do it the old fashion way and elevate ourselves...
PS...14 more were scored by Lake Highlands on the second unit defense, and it looks like they corrected that, the last two games Evangel and Mesquite second team defense has played and nothing scored on them...starting Unit has given up only 16 points in five games...we do have a tough road ahead a Tyler Lee team that has lost two games, they will be gunning, JT looks good and North Mesquite is still out there lurking as is Rockwall and Horn (Mon Williams)...rankings means little...state title is where it is at

I bet several very good teams can say that. When you have blow outs the 2nd team comes in on both offense and defense and that is usually when the other teams gets their yardage and points. Lufkin is in the same boat just like they usually are because the blow out most of their competition. The 1st string defense has only given up 2 td's and one was a drive of 9 yards after a turnover while the other was a 40 yard drive. The 2nd string has given up the rest!! Like you said special teams can flaw that number also. If you give up a few kickoff or punt returns for td's it is certainly not the defenses fault. No system is going to be flawless but it will be close. Stats cannot account for everything. Just the way it is. I like this new thread!! excellent idea kt brother's.

MYROUND0, you are so quick to post when every other team pulls their starters....lets hear about your team. Yes, the lobos have been scored on very little, but by whom? You seem to have been at EVERY game in the state every weekend with the facts you spout out. You address shows to be far from Longview...are you using a telescope? You really don't support the fact that these athletes are trying their best and leave it at that. Get off your horse until you have the facts. I will not state an absolute until I either have an unrefuttable source or I witness it happening. Have you noticed that a number of posters have disputed your allegations? I repeat...get a life and speak the truth. Credibility might result!!!

difference is who have you played...you have three games , Ike, nac'doches, and PA Memorial...3 games and 26 points scored on you, we have played five games. all against last season play off teams to include two state runners up in Marshall, and West Monroe, two play off teams in Lake Highlands, and Mesquite, and a state champ in ECA and four of those games were played on the road, and we still have Texas state champ Tyler Lee to play on the road...I hear what you are saying Panther brother, but, there is no comparsion.

Lufkin has dealt with that same problem in the past also. Go back and look at some of our recent schedules and tell me they were not some of the toughest in the state. Even in 2003 Lufkin's defense was one of the best in the state and the numbers were flawed with reality. The 1st string defense hardly gave up anything that year. Longview should know that year. The 1st string gave up 1 td to Longview in 2 games. Same with Katy who went onto win the div2 championship that year. Lufkin put their 2nd string defense in the third quarter in that one also when it was 35-7. Katy scored an oh by the way on the 2nd string. Believe me, Longview's 1st string d is not the only one that has experienced this. Just the way it is.

I'm with you on this Bullrock. Westfield is beating people on both sides of the ball. I know- I know- SLC is winning too but Westfield is not allowing points against themselves. SLC has let opponents score a lot of points even though they are winning. IMO from what I see so far, I give the edge to Westfield and, as you say, they are returning so many players from that team last year.

Would Westfield be D-1 again? Don't forget about Trinity in D-1. This is the first time in 5-A Carroll is not sure whether they will be D-1 or D-2. It looks like they will still be D-2, but with just a little bit of squirreliness in our district, they could be D-1. And just for the record, Coach Dodge is cycling lots of players in and out during the games...8 WR's are seeing lots of PT, both QB's & lots of substitutions on Defense, & and the Dragons have still dominated each team.

Smithson Valley didnt win a district championship last year, and they almost knocked off the Dragons for the title. Some teams have a tough district run. I think Trinity will be very good this year. Season and post season
there is a strong case for about 8 teams to be #1 right now. Trinity needs to concentrate on other things than being #1, like winning a district championship something they did not do last season

i'm not sure what the implication of your post is, but the difference of 0.6 points per game is a single field goal. i'd say these 2 as well as plano and basically any one close to them are relatively equal(xcept cc carroll). i'm betting they don't carry that differential much past the valley in the po's.

The scoring margin and scoring offense numbers can be missleading for teams like Westfield, Northshore and others since the starters are gone after the first possesion of the third quarter if they are kept in that long. I'm not saying there is a better stat, just an observation about this one about how high these would be if coaches didn't shut it down.
