I'm from Texas and I don't want to know what goes on there.

I know, through friends that go there, that they take dates to these things and they kiss and yell...I dunno.

so basically they pay money for tickets to go sit in the stadium and yell for no reason?

It's "practice" for yelling. Yes, these are people that actually have to practice yelling. And they wonder why they get mocked so much.

"Practice, practice... we talkin' 'bout practice. I mean practice... practice. Not a game, not a game... we talkn' 'bout practice."

aggy needs to start having attendence practice. They need to practice buying tickets, driving to the stadium and walking in to watch the game. I know SMU isnt the greatest of teams, but when your stadium seats 83,000 and your official attendence is just a tad over 75,000... that's sad.

Meanwhile, when other schools play weak teams, the crowds are still overflowing. The land thieves (after a huge loss no less) are operating at 102% capacity against Tulsa, Texas is operating at 104% capacity against Rice (103% against ULaLa) and Tech is operating at over 100% capacity against a freakin' 1-AA school in Sam Houston State.

As is the Hex rally, the texas comeback for Bonfire. Only tshirt Texas fans would knock a tradition such as midnight yell, it might be goofy, but it unites a student body in spirit for the following game day. Outside of the austin world, fans from all accross the Big 12 and other confrences have had nothign but positive things to say about midnight yell and other Aggie festivites involving game day. It is sad that the largest stadium in Texas can not fill up for game day, but a lot of that has to do with the struggles of A&M recently, it wasnt but 7-8 years ago that DKR was empty on game days, if A&M starts to win on a consistant basis in the near future, then Kyle field will live up to the reputation that so many outside of Texas have labeled it as.

I expect to get flammed for this post so go ahead abd blast away.

There are alot of different yells that the Aggies have........over 10 of them that are yelled in unison at the games........it is unique. No one does it.......and how the crowd knows that yell is coming is the yell leaders give a different hand signal for each yell that is about to take place. The fans that can see the yell leaders hold that hand signal that they see given by the yell leaders up over their head......then across the stadium slowly the same hand signal spreads....until everyone knows what yell is going to take place. So, for the newbies.........even opposing fans....they always attend midnite yell practice.......i've seen over 40,000 fans show up for this....it is an amazing thing.......and it is even organized at every away game also.

There are many DIV I schools across the nation that would love to have that 75,000 sitting in their stadiums. Yell practice consist mostly of freshman and new transfers, sophmores that are unaware of the different hand signals for each yell that is about to take place. As well as those that want to attend a super pep rally. Sports Illustrated did rate them tops.

AND if you have ever been down on the field, (I have) It's like being a freaking gladiator.... nothing like it. Don't worry about it Farmerfan....ppl fear and flame what they don't understand...*Chuckles*

Oh, beside yell practice they produce, for a price of course, Aggies jokes for Texas fans to use.....and laugh with their fellow Texans.....all the way to the bank.

I've been to a few games at Kyle Field. That plays gets crazy with some of those cheers. I didnt know what the "heck" was going on half the time. People would just start going crazy all the sudden.

Kind of like going to a different Church and not being accustomed to how they do things and somethings take you by surprise if you know what I mean.

You walk out of Kyle Field after a game just kind of shaking your head (if you're not an Aggie) and wondering what just happen because your not to sure your were at a football game.

Midnight yell is sort of like a pep rally.

And the yell leaders carry out the yells through the game and I think midnight yells. I've never been to the midnight yells but I did go to a game last year.

I've been to Midnight Yell a couple of times with family who are aggy alums and I thought it was without question the stupidist thing I have ever seen. Some farmer looking idiot with a stupid hair cut holds up his hands and we are supposed to know what that means and then yell what he says. Give me a freakin' break! I dont need a buzz cut to tell me what to yell. Of course, if you've ever been to collie station, you realize that going to the stadium and yelling while a clown holds up his hands is really about the best thing to do.

I do like a few aggy traditions. The 12th man thing is pretty cool and the bonfire was just flat awesome. In fact, I think the aggy bonfire might have been the coolest tradition in college football. I dont really care for Texas' Hex Rally. I have only been twice, but I didnt really like it. The Torchlight Parade is pretty cool. I remember watching that big Texas flag drop and I thought that was pretty damn cool. I'm just not that big of a tradition guy I guess. I like a few here and there, but I think aggy is overkill. You cant take a dump without having to follow some tradition to do it, but to each their own.

“From the outside looking in you can never understand it, from the inside looking out you can never explain it.”

This is all I really have to say in response to everyones remarks. You will never understand why we do what we do here in College Station, but you don't need to know. All you need to know is that the spirit and traditions of Aggieland are the strongest and most impacting of all the schools in the US. They impact our "second education," our involvement in activities other than studying and exams, which in the end will ultimately have the deciding factor in how far we go in life. They impact our sports and the mentality that an Aggie fights through to the end. They are what allows us to make the top 10 list for friendliest universities. And also what makes us to have the strongest network in the US...Aggies hire Aggies. I am a freshman at A&M and I will admit that I was torn between A&M and UT. It was A&M's spirit and tradition that ultimately made my decision. So now that I am on the inside looking out, maybe I will never be able to explain exactly why we do what we do here. But hey it works for us. I am willing to bet that in the next 10 years and maybe even by the time I graduate, A&M will become one of the top Universities in the US. And that is because that tradition and spirit is what makes A&M graduates give back to the university that gave them what they have today. So before you go cracking Aggie jokes or whatever it is ya'll do, remember that one day your boss will be an Aggie and those jokes might not be too funny then.

Guyana is in South America, not California.

Alot of College football fans that travel to support their teams go party at Northgate on Friday night, then follow the crowd over to Kyle field for yell practice, then tailgate with the anyone and everyone before the game. Its an experience unlike any other, if your a fan of the game, you need to check it out at least once, regardless of your affiliation.

Another place I have heard is a fantastic place to attend a game is Wisconsin.

I was at Midnight Yell on Friday (it was my 3rd or 4th) and it is always something special to me. D08, you do not ahve to pay, all you have to do is wait in line and women have to have their purses searched. jtk-I know of some tea sips on this board who have respect for the so called "crew cuts" so I'm not sure if you should be making fun of the people who are protecting our country (Kepp in mind that Texas A&M has the highest enrollment in the armed forces from an ROTC outside of the Army, Navy, and Air Force Academies...). Midnight Yell is another of what I think of as A&M's great traditions and it is a great way to bring the student body together for the game. It is a chance for Former Students to get back to their roots and a place to make new relationships. Other people on this thread have pretty much made my case for me. Gig 'em Ags!

served this country. I am 4th generation military.
My grandfather served in WWII and my Dad did
2 tours in Vietnam. I have a tremendous respect
for the people who have served this country. Don't ever
say that again...it's not true.

Don't get it twisted. Me pointing out the obviously ridiculous
nature that is aggy and aggy tradition...has nothing to do with my
patriotism...my love for the military and ALL those that serve in it.

There are several active duty members and veterans on this board...myself,ddaddy,Lonny,scooter,Texasfrog,and soon to be CC57...the
list goes on and on...

Before you start mouthin' off about the military...maybe you should finish freakin' high school first...get out of mommy and daddy's house and serve a hitch...until then your opinion on the military holds about as much weight as that stupid mutt in Collie Station.

I am poking fun at a rival school. You are questioning my integrity and my loyalty to my country...Big damn difference.

I'm am the son of a military man. I grew up on military bases from Florida to California. I was born at a Naval hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Both my grandfathers are vets of the Korean war and one is a veteran of WWII. My great Uncle was a highly decorated officer in the US Army earning purple hearts in Korea and Vietnam. My family has served in every branch of the US military and they have fought in every war this country has ever fought dating back to the Revolutionary War when members of my family died for their new country not weeks after arriving here from Europe. The blood of my ancestors helped this country grow. Because of that I take tremendous offense to your remarks.

These guys who are members of the Corp of Cadets are not soldiers. aggy is not a military school, therefore I like having a little fun at their expense, but the second they step off of that campus and put on a real uniform, the fun stops and my respect begins. No matter what is ever said on this board, you by God better remember that, and you better remember that the tree of liberty that is this nation has flourished becuase of the blood shed by Aggies, Longhorns, Red Raiders, Bears, Sooners, Cornhuskers, etc., etc.

Well, I thank you for your family's contributions. But most of the Cadets don military uniforms after college. And I never said anything about anyone outside of A&M so I don't see why that was brought up.

I say we all just stop here. It'd be the logical thing to do.

Considering most cadets become soldiers, and you called them a "pretend armY" that sounds like dishonoring them. And I do apologize if I might've hurt someone's feelings BUT when you called them a pretend army, you dishonored them. And apparently you dishonored the lives of the Aggies that died in the Bonfire tragedy...apparently that was the reason why you got banned the first time. I will never forget that, either.

and that changes my point in what way?

From the Corp of Cadets website:

While membership in the Corps itself carries no military obligation, all cadets must take basic ROTC classes during their first two years. Subsequent enrollment in advanced ROTC leads to an officer's commission, but is strictly voluntary. Approximately one-third of graduating cadets choose this career option.

Oh yeah, last I checked, 1/3 does not equal "most."

I didn'y say most, I said many. I apologize if I offended anyone, but when someone makes fun of Texas you take shots back and so will I. All I was saying is that your statement about being a pretend army (while it may be technically true) was not meant to speak on technicalities. It was meant to disrespect and if you deny that, you are lying to yourself and all teh people on tehis board. I am trying not to bring teh BOnfire tragedy up because I don't know if you feel ermorse for what you said, and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. Please don't prove me wrong. bowiedawgs01
09-18-2005, 07:24 PM
Another gem from the Corp of Cadets website:

Cadets in the Corps are at the heart of the Aggie Spirit. Because Texas A&M was a military college for most of its first 100 years, many of its most cherished traditions grew out of the Corps experience. The University's Bonfire, yell practice, Aggie Muster and Silver Taps traditions all originated with the Corps. Thus cadets consider themselves 'Keepers of the Spirit' and 'Guardians of Tradition.'

Oh, were they? I thought military academies required at least a 2 year committment for attendance.

Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for four years, graduating with bachelor of science degrees and reserve commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years as Navy or Marine Corps officers.

By law, graduates of West Point are appointed on active duty as commissioned officers and serve in the U.S. Army for a minimum of five years.

I have a close friend that had an ancestor that was one of the first graduates of A&M. He was in the agricultural business and had no intentions of joining the military. His name was W.A. Brown. My friend has this information in a published book.

We call aggy pretend army because that's what they are. REAL military academies require service by law after graduation. Does A&M? No. 1/3 of Cadets voluntarily join the military. That's a big difference. A&M is not a real military academy, but they try to act like one.

All this aside, anyone who joins the military should be respected for that.

I never disputed the fact that they are not required by law. All I said is that when you say they are a pretend army, you generally mean it to be a put down and that is disrespectful.

I found another quote from the Cadets website...

However, most cadets receive non-military advanced leadership training through the Office of the Commandant and are termed Drill and Ceremonies (D&C) Cadets. They participate fully in all Corps activities, but do not incur a military service commitment.

At first, I thought this may hurt my stance. On second thought, it helps me. So the cadets who choose to enroll in the advanced ROTC courses incur the mandatory service. aggy crows about their military heritage and how they're a military institution. If so, why does only 1/3 of cadets choose this path? The other 2/3 only dress up and play cadet for the rest of their time on campus.

All I said is that when you say they are a pretend army, you generally mean it to be a put down and that is disrespectful.

First of all, I was not the one who brought up the pretend army thing. I'm only here to prove that aggy's belief that they are a military school is ridiculous. Is "pretend army" supposed to be a put down? Hell yes it is. Is it disrespectful to the majority of cadets who are only pretending? Yeah, probably so, but sometimes the truth hurts.

I will keep posting this though, so as not to be confused with an anti-American: I respect those who make the sacrifices to protect our country. I do not necessarily respect those that dress up like soldiers and play the flute.

As a person who served in the REAL military...I have earned the right to call aggy pretend army...because that is what they are...A bunch a pretend soldiers...if they graduate and go on to a career in the military they should and will get my respect. The same respect I would give any person that serves our country...but until they make that leap...THEY ARE PRETENDING to be military...I have more respect for the Boy Scouts....at least they don't pretend...they are what they are.

I just love how aggy continues to argue, even after you slap them in the mouth with facts...from their own freakin' website. It's not like bowiedawgs is making this stuff up. Hell he couldn't make it up if he wanted to...only aggy can be that moronic.

garlandowl08
09-18-2005, 08:47 PM
All I was trying to say is that you were being disrespectful and so I'm going to try to the best of my ability to defend my school. You would do it for texas, I am sure. The fact is, the Corps does build character and strength even if they are "pretending". How anyone (especially anyone in the military) could not respect at least trying to have military ties is beyond me.

wide-e-wide
09-18-2005, 08:57 PM
It's very simple. If you are a vet or active duty military member...you would find it very hard to respect or appreciate a group of people who pretend to do the same thing you do or did. Men and women who have been through basic training, and been stationed away from their families or in some cases fought in combat...should not even be mentioned in the same breath with these clowns. Because you get a buzz cut and wear a uniform does not automatically get you respect. There is much more to it than that. Per aggy website's statistics....the majority of the guys in the corps are playing dress up...I didn't say it...YOUR OWN FREAKIN' WEBSITE says it. I can't believe I'm going back and forth with aggy. I would have better luck yelling at a brick wall.

garlandowl08
09-18-2005, 08:58 PM
okay...the brick wall thing was out of line because I'm smart and there are lots of other smart Aggies. Now that you actually made a rational oint about the military service thing, I can see your point of view, even though I still the think Corps is pretty cool. Thats all you had to say.

You're right ...comparing aggy intelligence to brick walls is an insult to
brick walls everywhere.

My point was... no matter where you go...be it the internet, sports bar, work, school, backyard b-b-q,Christmas party...it doesn't matter...
aggy will argue with facts even when they are staring him right in the face.
Always have...always will. I've come to view it as a form of entertainment...
Some of the stuff aggy says is down right hilarious. It's like they live on a different planet of something.

But when you take it to whole other level...you have sunk into the abyss that is complete and total aggydom. And believe me brother there is an entire world of those weirdos out there. They make the entire school look like morons. Thus aggy jokes and laughing at the corps. That's the truth....and you know it.

Three football fans were on their way to a game when one noticed a foot sticking out of the bushes by the side of the road. They stopped and discovered a nude female dead drunk. Out of respect and propriety, the Cornhusker fan took off his cap and placed it over her right breast. The Aggie fan took off his cap and placed it over her left breast. Following their lead, the Longhorn fan took off his cap and placed it over her crotch.

The police were called and when the officer arrived, he conducted his inspection. First, he lifted up the Cornhusker cap, replaced it, and wrote down some notes. Next, he lifted the Aggie cap, replaced it, and wrote down some more notes. The officer then lifted the Longhorn cap, replaced it, then lifted it again, replaced it, lifted it a third time, and replaced it one last time.

The Longhorn fan was getting upset and finally asked, "What are you, a pervert or something? Why do you keep lifting and looking, lifting and looking?"

"Well," said the officer. "I am simply surprised. Normally when I look under a Longhorn hat, I find an a**hole."

The aggie driving says, "Hey, let's play a word game. I'll think of a word, and y'all will ask yes or no questions to see if you can guess what it is."

The other two aggies agree. So, the first aggie starts to think of a word. He's gotta think of one they'll NEVER get. He finally has it....Muledick.

He says, "I've got my word. Give it your best shot."

The aggie in the passenger seat asks, "Can ya eat it?"

The first aggie says, "Well.....I guess you could eat it, but it wouldn't taste very good."

The aggie in the backseat says, "Is it Muledick?"

I've got another one for you Longhorn fans....(Much love though).....

A cowpoke in West Texas was herding cattle one day when he heard
faint music coming from nearby. After hunting about for a time, he
discovered the sound was loudest near one particular calf, and was
even louder near the calf's tail. Putting his head close to the calf's
hind end, he heard "The eyes of Texas are upon you, all the live long
day..."

Amazed, he tossed the calf over his horse's back, mounted and rode
quickly to his line shack 10 miles away. There he put the calf into his
truck and drove 74 miles to Ft. Stockton, where he took the animal
to a vet.

When the vet asked him what was going on, the cowpoke told him,
and the vet went around behind the calf and gave a listen, too. He
agreed he heard "The eyes of Texas are upon you, you cannot get
away..." but he didn't seem particularly excited.

"Man, how can you stand there and not be amazed?!" the cowpoke
asked.

The vet, a third generation Aggie, said, "Bud, I'm an Aggie, and I've
been listening to a**holes sing the "Eyes of Texas" for years."

An aggie and two construction workers were working on a sky
scraper, discussing their lunch.

The first construction worker said, "Ham, ham, ham! All I ever
get is a ham sandwich! I'm so sick of ham sandwiches. If I get
another ham sandwich tommorrow, I'm gonna jump off this building
and kill myself."

The second construction worker said, "Turkey, turkey, turkey!!
All I ever get is a turkey sandwich! I'm so sick of them! If I
get ONE MORE turkey sandwich, I'm gonna kill myself, too!"

The aggie said, "Peanut butter, peanut butter, peanut butter!
All I ever get for lunch is a peanut butter sandwich. I'm
getting so sick of them! If I get another peanut butter
sandwich, I'm going to join you guys and jump off this sky
scraper."

The next day, the first construction worker got a ham sandwich.
So he jumped off the building and killed himself. The second
construction worker got another turkey sandwich, so he jumped
off the building and killed himself. And the aggie got a peanut
butter sandwich, so he jumped off the building and killed
himself, too.

At the funeral, the wives were in mourning. The wife of the
first construction worker said, "If only he had told me! I
wouldn't have made another ham sandwich."

The wife of the second construction worker said, "If only he had
told me! I wouldn't have made another turkey sandwich."

The wife of the aggie said, "I don't know why he jumped. He
always made his own sandwiches!"

Here's my thoughts on the Aggies,as a Red Raider fan. They just about make the rest of the state sick with all of their "traditions." Some of them are very poignant and meaningful. (Aggie Muster is the main one I am thinking of here.) The 12th Man thing really is one of the neater traditions in college football.

The Corps of Cadets used to really be something to be proud of, and for those that go on to serve in the military, it still is. You wil never catch me disrespecting folks training for a career in the service. Most of the Corps guys I know, have been from the other 2/3, and the ONLY thing remotely military about them was the buzz cut and uniforms. Most of the proud "traditions" I heard about from them involved excessive drinking and abusive hazing. Granted, that is something that goes on at just about every major school (well, maybe not BYU), but only Aggies seem to take particular pride in it,and christen it "Tradition". I fail to see why the rest of the Big 12 should be awed by the fact that, in order to get the precious aggie senior ring, you had to drink a pitcher of beer and then throw up in the back of the Dixie Chicken.

I include the inane, complex cheers that they perform, the comic genius that is burning an out-house and calling UT "t.u.", the overdone and hazardous High School Homecoming ritual that is Aggie Bonfire and so on and so forth. So everything you do in Aggie Land is "Tradition." So you only hire one another (seems to me to be stunningly narrowminded). That is great, and we are glad they have fun doing it. It is the fact that they expect the rest of us to simply bow in awe of this stuff that gets our goat.

And, finally, I still insist that the reason the Aggies only have "yell-leaders" is because they are too embarressed to put Aggie co-eds on the field where everyone else can see them.

Got another one for you Longhorns....

A University of Texas grad dies, and God takes him on a personal tour of
Heaven. God shows the man a little two room house with a faded Texas
banner hanging from the front porch. "This is your house, sir. Most
people don't get their own houses up here, you know," God says.

The Texas grad looks at his little house, then turns around and looks at
a huge house sitting on top of a hill. It's a three-story mansion with
white marble columns and little patios under all the windows. Texas A&M
flags line both sides of the sidewalk, and a huge A&M banner hangs
between the marble columns.

Thanks for the house, God," says the Texas grad. "But why do I get this
little two room shack with a faded banner, and some arrogant, inbred,
obnoxious A&M grad gets a mansion with new A&M banners and flags flying
all over the place? Why is that?", he asks objectionably.

God looks at him sternly for a moment and replies: "Because that one is

Well, considering that they are A&M's traditions and not Texas', not Texas Tech, not Baylor's or not anyone elses. I don't think anyone should care what the Aggies do. I mean, do you criticize what your next door neighbor does because it's a little different? Do you criticize him because he celebrates things differently than you?

The only reason why people say A&M is like a military school is because it produces the most amount of officers other than a real Military Academy.

And t.u actually has some meaning behind it.

2. Joe Gibbs Smiling

...here are four things that pleased me when Dallas beat Washington 9 times in a row...

1.) Dan Snyder calling the President for air support
2.) Effortless manor in which the Cowboys party the night before the Skins game, just to show total lack of respect
3.) Watching the Skins' players with their heads down, knowing that a**-whoopin' will be comin' again next year

Y'all keep talking about the Cowboys 'didn't' do....yet fail to remember that Santana missed a touchdown pass that would've put us up with the first score. And when Brunell was sacked it put us out of field goal range. It'll probably be a different game. But next time, it'll be in our arena. And 90,000 people is a heck of a lot more than 65,000.

Yeah...uh, Dallas kicked for 3 field goals and only made 2. Just think if we would have converted all those attempts into touchdowns? (21 pts) + the other td we scored. So the outcome would of still been...

28-24....in favor of Dallas!

Face it the Skins suck....and up until 3:46 seconds remaining in the game, you thought the same thing!!

(What's funny about all of this is I know Dan Snyder and a few players on the Redskins squad, including Lavaar and Clinton....but I still say they suck! When I see them in off-season I tell them they suck!)

I'm sorry but where did I say they suck? I was worried that they would lose. That isn't giving up on my team, and that's not saying they suck. For one, I watched the entire game, I could have easily turned it off and do something else. But I didn't. And "what ifs" aren't good enough. You all couldn't convert those field goals into touchdowns because of our D, that and your kicker sucks. And then the sole touchdown was off a trick play where Sean Taylor slipped while trying to turn completely around, leaving the Dallas reciever open.

You lost. Get over it.

I don't care about A&M because they suck so bad at sports and MOST curriculum related activities. (Sit down engineers and vets, I said most)
Now three things about A&M that make everyone else hate you...
1) If UT didn't exist you would fall off the face of the planet because all you do is mock Austin, Texas which is the birthplace and final resting place of all that is cool. Now, I don't care if you hate "queers" but if your going to insult UT lets bring to light the actual cases of sodomy filed against the Corps during hazing rituals.
2) The corps. My God I hate the corps. Remember high school? Did anyone think the band was cool then? No, so what changed when you got to college? See, as a band you are missing one thing, musical ability. Ohio State has a good band, I can see what they are so proud of. The corps is just an excuse for every ROTC kid who got picked on in high school and never quit playing with his GI Joe's to be a part of something. O yeah, and by the way, dressing up like Adolf Hitler's choirboys would have been cool had there not been that little Holocaust incident.
3) Your all morons. Look at every trailor trash, bangin their sister redneck in East Texas, and ask that person, hey man, who you rootin for today? You will get a resounding YEEEEHAWWW GIG EM AGGIES. This is your fan base. Your coach can't count. Anyone can get into your school, example, I've seen a lot of I couldn't get into UT so I went to A&M, never the other way around. Also, theres nothing cool about t.u. or bonfires, or burning desires in your urine to beat a school you can never seem to beat in any sport ever, or using a bible verse as trash talk, or male cheerleaders, excuse me yell leaders, or a dog, or being the sorriest excuse for white trash the world has ever accumulated.

Disclaimer... I know plenty of good people at A&M and have friends there. I am only referring to morons and those who would disagree with me on above topics.
