Since the split - will Clemens go big or little. From the radio post - I've heard they are 1700+ and will go little 5a. Anyone know for sure?

1700 will be little for sure but I thought the cut-off was 1800 or so. I don't know for sure maybe someone else knows the exact numbers but I do know that 1700 is the low side for 5-A

If I'm not mistaken, this years enrollment numbers are not being used to determine classification, 5A vs. 4A, or playoff classification, Div. I vs. Div. II. Now don't hold me to this since I really do not know, but I think the UIL evaluates enrollment figures every two years. At least it appears that way because they always seem to do realignments every two years. Of course, if I am right, then Clemens will probably drop to 4A next year based on the enrollment numbers mentioned in this thread. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this can help us out. Anyone?

i believe that SA Southwest is the only school that is larger than Clemens in their district according to UIL numbers. I don't think SW will make it so most likely Clemens will go Div 1

District alignment numbers are set every two years and don't change within the two year realignment period. You can find the numbers for every 5A district at the link below. The next realignment will be in February, based on enrollment numbers from this October.

As best I know, they don't use the enrollment numbers from this year for D1/D2. That would make Clemens D1 even though they have a 4A type population. Judson will be D1 even though they have less students, but in their case, they have D1 numbers still.

As recent posters have noted, that's the way I've heard and read it works.
They use the numbers from the last re-alignment to determine D1 and D2 until the next re-alignment.
So, unless Southwest makes the playoffs, Clemens will go D1 this year even with it's current population of 1600-1700 students. It sounds weird, but remember that all the district's seniors are still at Clemens and almost all the football juniors stayed at Clemens, so it's still fair in football terms.
When it really gets interesting is next year. Clemens will have a smaller enrollment than this year(numbers that would normally be D2 in 4A), but may end up playing D1 in 4A because the UIL will use this October's numbers. At the same time, this year's numbers for Steele may qualify it for a large 3A school next year, but next year they could end up with 1400 or so students! Certainly not 3A numbers!

Does anybody have the official UIL's cutoff numbers for the class breakdowns that are currently in use?
BTW, rattlerbacker, thanks for the link to the UIL enrollment figures, but one question...
Your school is one of several that shows a HALF in their enrollment. What exactly constitutes HALF a student? :D

I spoke to the President of the school board last night and he said that they were between 1600 and 1700. He did not know how the Divisional separation would work either off this years enrollment or last years. I thought that it would work off last years numbers but my cousin's son that is a senior on the team says that the coaches have been talking around the field house like we would go D-2 though. I really don't think that it matters all that much which division you are in once the playoffs start because there are an equal number of great teams in each division.

UIL will go by last year's enrollment or the year before, so it is a good chance that Clemens and Judson could meet in the 1st round of playoffs again.

I'm sure hoping that you're right. It will be a great game this year. Our defense is much improved and we already know how good the Rockets defense can be. A whipping like they gave Clemens last year in the first round is not easily forgotten! If they do meet in the first round, 14 points could win it!

UIL uses ADA ( AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE ) over a specified 2 week period in October ( I think ) --any time you use an average --you stand a good chance of having a fraction ---- 1500 first day --- 1501 the 2nd day --ADA would be 1500.5 ( UIL rounds to next highest .5 ) ---
average of 1500.2 would be counted as 1500 --- 1500.3 would be counted as 1500.5
