View Full Version : What about 7-5A? Can it be competitive again like 2 seasons ago?

We all know how good ET is, but is there anyone ready to challenge them in 7-5A? 2 years ago there was a 3 way tie for first; ET, SGP, and IMAC all going 9-1 and beating eachother. Can something like this happen again this year? Will it atleast stay a 2 way race between ET and SGP? Or will this year be the year ET just straight up runs away with the district title? SGP may be reloading, but they have some of the best young talent coming up to the varsity level that SGP hasn't seen in a long time. Coaches are raving about this team possibly being the next '99 Warriors. If so, just what kind of hype should the ET vs. SGP game get? Being played at the historic Pennington Field, I expect it to be sold out like the past 2 years. What do you guys think about this district? Any other teams that could possibly come out of nowhere and surprise ET and SGP? It's a lot of questions...discuss.

SGP has been a real good team over the last few years. I think the 7-5a teams has had a matchup problems. Most of the teams are preparing for the 3 yards and a cloud of dust of Trinity while not being able to switch for a new style when playoffs come. Imac, SGP,Irving amd now GP and Bell have some very athelitic teams. I look for ET, SGP again with someone else to start to emerge but not really challenge for the district. Bell might be that team. I wish for agreat challenge from great SGP again! We'll see how it plays out, this Trinity team has alot of young talent and could be among the best team ever from Trinity and the next year even better. What can I say, I'm a homer!

I think we will be looking real good next year. I am real excited about our backfield. Baker and Robinson should be one of the top running back combinations in the state. Samir Baker is a scat back with break away speed. Robinson, is tall, strong, super athletic and fast. He has great hands as well. Possibly one of the best RB we've had at Trinity. I haven't heard much about QB but we have some real athletes vying for that position.
We have Josh Ayers 6'5'' and 245 lbs (WOW) at TE who should replace Scoggins very well at that position. We have Mark Apo at WR. He is tall and fast and will take up where Marcus King left off. We have 4 of the "Hawgs" returning so the O line has a great foundation. We have Leota and Griffin returning on the D line but Alex Kautai and Isaiah Yandall leave huge shoes to fill. In the linebacking area we lost Demarco Johnson, Joe Likio, and all stater Youri Yenga so we will need help there. We have Norman, Kande and Heimuli returning as DB's so our secondary looks solid. Our kicking game is solid with Pery Negreiros returning. With that said, I know that SGP always has some of the best athletes in our district and I am sure they will be able to challange anyone in our district or the area. Luck to the Warriors this coming season.

BaylorDad, pretty much did a good job of summing up our situation.
SGP-with their coach, and pool of athletes they will always be good, but need more consistency. They seemed to be doing good last year, but after losing to us, it seemed to take the wind from their sails, and then they just struggled.
Irving, Irving Nimitz, Grand Prairie-Just haven't been good football schools in some time.
Dallas Jesuit-seems to be well coached, had some great players graduating including Barret Bufkin, it depends on how well they reload.
Irving Macarthur-Had a bad year last year, we'll see how they rebound.
L.D. Bell-had flashes of brilliance in their passing game, pretty decent O-line-but huge inconsistencies in their play. I watched them practice a couple of times last year, and came away impressed. They have some real big guys, but they don't seem to know how to use their size. They have potential.
Overall, I think the district will be better next than last year.
Something interesting: Although we at Euless Trinity ran over everyone in district, we seemed to suffer more injuries than usual.

i think this district will go in this order:
1. et
2. sgp
3. bell
4. toss up; gp has shot here.
Which means no slc vs trinity if this happens because trinity will go d2 any thoughts??? will gp have a legit shot at 4th or do they just have an outsiders chance???
if et goes d2 will the bracket be set up to where they will be on the same side as ch? that would be a great match-up and it would be only bi-district  !!!

I think GP has a shot at the 4th spot, because if you look at their last years team they were 3-1 before playing SGP. Once they got a beat down from SGP, they fell off the face of the planet going 1-5 in their final 6 games. If they can take what they had from the first 4 games and apply it to the entire 2007 season, then they have a lagit shot. To bad, because I really wanted to see a ET vs. SLC rematch! lol.
By the way, I find it funny the only comments this far are from ET posters:p Just want to say I love talking to you Trinity posters, because you guys are always humble. None of you are arrogant at all, and always have something good to say about other teams. Thanks a lot, and I love having you guys as district mates. I just hope the outcome in our district standings changes really soon;)
my predictions:
ET-Always reloads very well, and still has a massive o-line for their 2 RBs
SGP-Is also very good at reloading with great talent. Be ready ET, SGP just might be better than our '05 team(the ones that beat ya'll at Pennington Field)
L.D. Bell-Seems to be on the rise in the district, but don't see them taking out ET or SGP.
GP/I. Nimitz- GP had a better year last year than they have had in a long time. Maybe they can build off of that this year. Nimitz had a good defense last year, but absolutely no offense. If they can fix that problem, look for them to compete with GP for the 4th spot.

Who says that SLC is a lock to be D1 in '07?

Very true. You never know who will fall off or emerge in your district. Someone could push SLC to go D2 just as ET may get pushed there as well. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Keller, Haltom and Colleyville are all three larger than Carroll.

Trinity is the class of the district, and would be the class of just about all districts. They lost some studs, but they return some studs and had one of the best JV's ever. Take away the close loss to SLC, and they may have repeated as state champs.
SGP has more speed than all of the other teams in 7-5A. They have decent size and great athletes, and they are well-coached.
Jesuit will be better at just about all positions. They will be very strong at RB, QB, DL, and DB. They will have decent speed, good size, and lots of players returning with experience at the varsity level. The top prospects include Kyle Miller (RB-FS-KR), a 185 pound speedster who showed what he can do when he ran for 175 yards against SGP in the first half; Michael Brooks (DT), a 255 pound player with good speed; and Brandon Haynes (OT), a 6' 3, 290 pound sophomore who won both the shot put and the discus in the District 7-5A Track Meet.
LD Bell will be good and well-coached. Irving Nimitz might be a surprise team. Irving Mac returns some talent, including a top RB. Irving returns a very talented QB. And, GP will be better than they were in 2006.
I have no way of comparing the district before 2006, but I bet the district will be better in 2007. My predictions: Trinity, SGP, Jesuit, and LD Bell make the playoffs.

You know I just forgot about our new friends at Jesuit! My bad, Jesuit will be right in the mix! I think they will be a playoff team again. I look forward to hosting they at Pennington! We are lucky to have such a district as this.
It is probably harder to be a good sport when you have lost games and I do respect these teams. I could name them all but SGP, Jesuit, and Bell are pretty good sports about it. It is hard to win when you are surrounded by very good teams. I still wish we had a playoff system that is more like the NCAA Basketball has.

Yeah you are right. Jesuit will be in the mix for the 4th spot. I hope they make it so I can attend another ET vs. SLC match up! Oh and by the way...I'm going to go out on a limb here...SGP upsets ET for the district title:eek: !! Hey...a guy can dream can't he?? Well it wont really be dreaming if this team is anything like the '05 team that beat you guys.

Someone has to win and someone has to lose. SGP has a chance to do either against Trinity! I like the attitude I'm a dreamer too. Good Luck!

just wanted your honest opinion because these two districts greatly effect the playoffs for 8-5a.

I have to go along the crowd here:
ET.....going to be as strong as ever champions...clearly the cream of the district.
SGP... should be stronger on the defensive side of the ball.... always have alot of talent all over the field
BELL.. I'm a homer here
Bell will be returning 14 offensive letterman...7 defensive letterman
offensive players to watch:
Wr Atem Bol OL Kestin Blevins
WR Grant Milton OL Ken Van Heule
RB Deante Piper WR Jake Faurot
QB Tate Holbert I think will be one of the best quaterbacks in the district. He was the starter last until a torn acl in the summer, he made it back last year to suit up I believe in thier last two games.
Grand Prairie.... showed that thier team is improving and should be considered in the mix
