Gee if Bill Maher had of read this before he might not had been fired from ABC for his comments.

I thought Maher got fired because his ratings tanked. Maher wouldn't have got fired for political incorrectness because the only people he ever attacks are Christians and conservatives:rolleyes:

He was fired for his comments after 9/11 about the US military, free speech is not always free. I seen him attack Liberals and non-Christians also. He and Al went at it last night.

Wow, never would have thought that. Would assume that Maher and Sharpton saw eye to eye on most things. What did they disagree about? Imus (sp) ?

Yes about Imus and how different generations react to certain issues. Al called Bill on his gay jokes and Bill called Al on not going after the show southpark.

I hope they don't use African American to describe blacks. Otherwise the South Africans should protest and all the blacks not living in Africa should as well.

John Kerry's wife is an African American. Not all Blacks want to be referred as African American. I guess like some Filipinos living here would not want to be called Filipino Americans.

That makes sense, of course Bill didn't call Al about Tawana Brawly (sp?), or his anti-Jewish remarks, or the Duke Lacrosse team. And The Reverend Sharpton never called Bill on his anti Christian remarks. Guess it all depends on whom you are bashing.

Bill is an Atheist and he was not called out on his Christian, Jewish, or Muslim remarks. I think that they did not have enough time to go back 20 years to the Brawly case. I know he had to settle a lawsuit with those officers. I do remember Bill talking about Mel Gibson about his Anti-Jewish remarks, I might be wrong but I think Bill's mother is Jewish about the same time he mentioned William Bennett comments about aborting all Black male children. I surprised we did not see Al in Dallas county protesting wrongful prosecution of defendants whose cases were reversed because of DNA.

Filipinos prefer to be called Filipino/a. Although the cultures are different in the country, they prefer Filipino/a - but it's different than the term African American. The Filipinos are actually are of the Malay/Asian 'race'. Whereas saying African-American you have white South Africans, Arabian muslims in the northeast like Egypt and the majority of Blacks.

I think it was the catch pharse at the time for someone to spearhead. I wonder if we will ever get to the one term of American.

That would be nice but I doubt it. Would not be politically correct to refer all Americans as "Americans."

My Spanish teacher in Thailand who was from Mexico City said that it was unfair for us to say Americans because Mexico and everyone else were also on the American Continent(s).
Although overseas everyone who is from the States refers to themselves as Americans - and it's pretty much accepted.
