Any scores?? Oh. I have one. 21-14 Carter Final. Great game. Carters defense is great. Their offense is pretty typical. Huge linemen and they run the same 5 or 6 plays and dare you to stop them. Garland trailing 14-7 had 4th and 4 on about their 40 with 1:30 left in the 3rd and ran a FAKE PUNT after calling a timeout. Didn't quite work out for them. Carter stopped it and scored 2 plays later to make it 21-7. Garland scoreds the next series on 1 play 60yard pass and had a couple of opportunites to tie it up but Carters defense wasn't going to have it. Great hard hitting game.

Good win by Carter. They had me worried after struggling with Sam Houston, but they're obviously legit. The Owls will be alright...that's not a bad loss and it's a good test before the second season (district) starts.

This game was truly a slobberknocker!! It was intense!! You would think that it was 2 arch rivals playing.

Carter defense made me super proud! They overcame turnovers and penalties.

I just knew the Owls would take advantage of Carter mistakes but they never did.

Congrats Cowboys!!

Wow! That means we have big chance to go to Semifinals again in the playoff this year until we will play Trinity again probably. The Woodlands is one before Semifinals.

Good win for Carter... They have a great defense... Big guys, but extremely fast... They popped a few Garland players, especially one play where Donta Sloan went "end over end" so to speak when hit by a corner...

Garland had their bright spots here or there... they need to work on their passing game as usual. Lots of over thrown passes to wideopen recievers. I dont know why but midway throught the 3rd quarter, Garland had their 3rd string QB in the game when we were down by 14... I was a little confused.
And for most of the game there was single coverage on our reciever, but we never really took advantage of it, except for the one TD pass...

Garland's D played fairly well.. Carter has some big boys on the O Line, so it was hard to stop their running game. #1 for Carter has some speed... a few times it looks like he is going to get dropped for a loss, but ends up turning on the afterburners and turning the corner for a gain...

Great win for those Cowboys... hope Garland can take what they have learned and do some good things in district.

**edit** I would love to see Trinity vs Carter.. what a matchup... Hope these two can play sometime. :D

I'll have to say that this was a very electric game. Carter had some penalties that could of been very crucial, but the defense saved them. Carter's QB was put in on defense after the one big TD pass by Garland and he made some big time plays again this week to aid in Carter's win. Carter gave up about 3 or 4 turnovers as well. I'll say, Garland is still a great team and they had us on edge the whole game and the hits were hard on both sides. I just think Garland ran that Sloan guy a little too much (30 carries probably), and Carter's D-Fense keyed in on him big time. Big props to both squads.

There were a ton of penalties on Garland in the first half, I couldn't see the personal fouls that were called, the game replays will be on GRS-TV next week.

The Carter kids were impressive. Exactly the game I expected to see last year. Garland struggled with their passing game again, when they open receivers, they dropped the passes....when the passes were on target, they were'nt caught.

Both power running games were kept in check pretty well, the QB sneak for 20 yards by Carter was a back breaker, great call by Wilson. Garland also failed to contain on a couple of sweeps....I don't think either team broke any runs longer than 25 yards all night.

Great crowd for Garland, they stopped selling tickets.....the home side of HBJ was full, first time I've ever seen that.

Props to Carter, you avenged your loss, and reminded Garland they still need to work hard and improve.

Great Game, bottom line...both teams are really good and can make some noise this year. Sloan was hit like he has never been hit before, WoW. Carter played great defense and made plays when they needed to, except on the fumbles. Garland played some good D but didnt do much after their 2nd drive. Great Game, we got our money's worth without a doubt........Carter and Trinity did play, they scrimmaged each other, Carter-4....Trinity-2

I knew this would be a great game to watch but i predicted Garland winning in a close one but i knew it could go either way. I would love to watch those two physical hard hitting teams play.

Due to surgery, this was the first Garland game I saw this year. I listened to the Ennis game, but had to rely on word of mouth on the first two.

First, I give props to Carter, they came to play and won the game and deserve the win.

Second, some good news for Owl fans. Dante Sloan, though he had 23 carries, was lightly used tonight. I saw 2 key series where he wasn't used at all, and one was just after the half when he should have been fresh. Also, Brandon Antwine was on the bench a bunch, and coach would put him in when we had a key 2nd or 3rd down. He did play most of the fourth quarter, but coach was holding out a number of starters for about 60-70% of the plays. He did it last week too against Ennis, as the announcers were pretty good about saying who was in the game and who was substituting.

Don't get me wrong, we tried to win the game, we just didn't throw the kitchen sink at them. I think coach was willing to win or lose all 4 pre-season games as long as he won or lost the games protecting his key players as much as possible. Think about it, does it matter if you go 4-0 or 0-4 in pre-season, really,.....no, the games have no bearing on making the playoffs, and Mesquite proved last year that you could make the playoffs and have a significant run, with a 3-7 record, they just won the right 3.

Bottom line, I still think we have a possibility of a really good team that could make a significant playoff run, I just think that coach is like a poker player who hasn't shown all his cards yet.

I saw Antwine play both ways tonight... is Jordan going to use him as an Oline as well as a Dline?

GoOwls

I saw him in the goal-line situation and short yeardage as a tight end on the right side of the running formation. Watch for the pass later in the year to him off play-action.

We all pretty much knew this anyway, but I have never see two teams SO much alike.

Garland looked like Carter in black and gold and Carter like Garland in red and blue.

Great game...garland is tough and will be a serious play-off threat.
Carter fans seemed to be out in force, the stadium was packed.

Hope that they get rescheduled for next year.

Brandon Antwine just plays both ways for short conversions and goalline formations for a bigger line. CARTER WAS HUGE!! One of the biggest O Lines I've seen on the high school level. Its looking like Rowlett will make the playoffs which means we wont see Tyler Lee in the first round which is a disapointment IMO. We HAVE to beat North and South this year because if we dont we will play Longview in the first round. Most likely we meet Carter again in the second round.

not as big as euless's o-line tho
they're seriously putting something in the water out there, all their guys are like...315 +???

btw that playoff scenario would be sweet, take out carter, then take out lufkin and slc, and beat katy again in the state game???

lol lets start dreaming ;)

Is there anyplace you can see defensive stats? I would love to know how many tackles were made by Tim Crosby (who started at quarterback in games 1 & 2). I wouldn't be surprised if he led the team in tackles.

Crosby will likely be back at QB against Naaman after the bye week. He was hurt on one of the final play against DeSoto, did not play last week, and was able to go defensively this week.

Greg Hunter played well but was under pressure all night by the Carter defense - he may have held the ball a little too long two or three times, but he was victimized by some drops, too. Carter's defensive backfield played great and had the Garland recievers covered most of the night.

This was a great game, and the Owls should not feel bad about losing it. Carter was playing with determination last night - they wanted it bad. Garland fought hard and had their chances, made some plays, and stayed in the game. I'm very proud of the Owls and look for great things as district play starts.

Naaman will be facing some angry Owls...

I dont think Tim will be back at qb against naaman. Greg i think will be our qb the rest of the season. We are a better team this way plus if Tim was hurt still he would not have played defense even.

I noticed Crosby being used at receiver last night also. I think the passing game has shown some real potential, they should get plenty of time to sharpen things up against district teams.

For most of the night our reciever was under single coverage and the safety never even looked over for most of the game... we should have taken advantage of it more often... the one play I saw them do it, we scored that TD on..

I agree with you so much. I was getting mad that we had Malcolm one on one alot of the game and we wouldnt give him the ball. We saw what happend the other times we actually did throw the ball his way.

dont get mad its called "CRABTREE". The kid went out there and locked up with the Williams kid and locked him down at the end of the game. Carter's O-Line is really big and tall. Carter played lights out on defense. Did you see the hits/shots Sloan took when he ran the ball, WOW. He got the Shhhhhhht knocked out of him a few times. I thought Carter didnt have no "D", they proved me and everyone else wrong that night.

DC always has a gigantic oline and it is usually the biggest in the state if not nation in hs. They are BIG!!

i dont think crosby will be starting again against naaman because hunter looked a lot better than crosby. thats why he started against carter.

crosbys arm is still hurt from desoto
he can hit and catch, but he cant do the rotation motion of throwing
thats prob why hunter got the start this week
but it looks like hunter is being more consistent with the pass so idk

I'll put it like this - Crosby will be "available" at QB against Naaman in two weeks. He was not "available" at QB on Friday because of his injury. This came directly from coach J. Whether or not he plays QB is the coaches' decision (personally, I think Greg has done a great job - I'd like to see Tim stay at DB and reciever).

They actually scrimmaged before the season but ET kept their 2 top backs out(which wasn't a bad idea when you already know what they can do.)

One thing about having a huge O-line is that your D-Line have to work very hard in practice so going up against ET's line wasn't a shock to them.

You cant compare playing a scrimmage against ET and a real game... not even close...
