The third baseman homered late in the game when his team was already winning. That is the only time the third baseman can hit home runs for his team, when it doesn't really matter. Once the third baseman feels any pressure, he folds like a house of cards.

Are you talking about A Rod? Just wondering because he had an error right at the beginning. I've been to Yankee Stadium many times - piss those fans off and you might get a D cell thrown at your noggin. They don't like him right now - it's a shame. Just for the record, Jeter had an error too and the Cy Falls kid didn't do so bad on the mound considering he's been injured.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hitting homeruns when you are up 15-2 in the 9th or down 12-1 in the 9th shouldnt count. When the pressure is on....the third baseman is MIA. Where is Lonny? I need some stats. When was the last time the third baseman drove in a run to tie the score or put his team ahead?....most of the time he's just trying to score for himself in his own fantasy baseball league.

The third baseman's HR came with a 1 or 2 run lead. In other words, the third baseman secured the win for his team. He was clutch.

All he did was rob his teammate of a Save opportunity.

No, you were correct, the topic is the third baseman of the American League baseball club in New York City.

I'm saying saves and closers are overrated, not saying it's a great time to give up tons of runs.

I think the point is that if there isnt a closer there to make saves all the time, then you dont lose close games. The games you go into the 9th up by 6 runs are the easy ones to close, but the ones where the score is close are the ones that really count. I know that the Dodgers really missed Gagne last year so ask any dodger fan that kept up with them after they lost him. Closers really do matter.

And yes Pujols pwned Lidge.

did anyone else have a knot in their stomach when Lidge came out. I was actually wringing my hands nervously and I think I broke out in a slight sweat. The guy kills me!!! Such a nice guy but he doesn't have anything anymore - a broken closer if ever there was one. Let him be on short relief and bring Wheeler in or find someone else QUICK or this guy will be the early death for the Astros this season. I just don't see him picking up the pieces - he was this bad last season too. Pujols ruined him!!!

And I'm sure Clemens and his oversized Ego was watching and calling Steinbrenner at the same time :)

I just wanted to go ahead and bump this since the third baseman hit 2 HRs last night. That means with around 36 games left, the third baseman has 42 HRs and 121 RBIs. Well on his way to crushing even my lofty predictions, though his .308 average means he will probably come up short of my .350 prediction. He is however unquestionably the leader for the AL MVP. Magglio Ordonez is the only player that can even try and make a case, but it doesn't compare to the third baseman who leads the AL in HRs, RBIs, runs, total bases, slugging and OPS.

Don't ever second-guess jtk... ever.

4 Games: 4 Hits. 2 Runs. 1 RBI. 1 Home Run. 2 Walks. 15 At-Bats. 6 Strikeouts.

The only really close game of the series, Game 2, he was 0 for 4 with 3 Ks.

Yeah those are MVP numbers right there.

Like I said in April, when the pressure is on he folds like a house of cards.

See you in the Spring April-Rod. :p

The Third Baseman was one of the more productive hitters on a team that averaged .207 vs. Cleavland. No, the Third Baseman had nothing to do with this series like in year's past. This series was lost because the Skankees two best pitchers had a combined ERA of 10.2 in 3 starts. Pettitte and Rivera were the only pitchers that showed up and that's why the AL MVP gets to start his free agency a bit quicker. Thank God.

I never said he lost the series, but he certainly didn't do one thing to help his team win the series. More specifically Game 2 which could have been won by either team:

Top 2 - Lead-off hitter. Popped out.
Top 4 - Runner on 2nd. Strikeout.
Top 7 - Runner on 1st. Strikeout.
Top 9 - Runner on 2nd. Strikeout.

No there's nothing he could've done to help his team win this series... except maybe get a base hit with a runner in scoring position in a tie game in the 9th inning. As bad as the pitching was otherwise one hit by the third baseman in either inning and we're more than likely talking about Game 5 and not him bolting to LA, Chicago, etc. (Which is probably the only good thing he can do in the post-season.)

Getting 3 meaningless singles and one home run does not make him one of the "productive" hitters. He only produced one RBI and lead the team in strikeouts. He did get more hits and RBI than his last two post-seasons combined so I guess that's something, of course it's hard not to beat 3 and 0 respectively.

By the way, had there been a thread about how wonderful Jeter and Posada are I would've pulled it back up too because they were awful, but I don't remember ever seeing those.
