And to think the Dragons use to just win in obscurity....the national acclaim has made Coach Dodge's job promoting his kids a little easier...

as far as national polls go, i dont think this one is near as bad as usa todays. 4 Texas teams in the top 25 with most people agree those could very well be the 4 best in texas. Euless Trinity will have to have several good years put together to get in a national poll.

For the record, the reason their are 4 texas teams and 1 Ohio team??
Because the Ohio powers all play each other and polls don't like losses very much.
Texas is so spread out, plus the D1 and D2 thing...

Do you work for SI part-time or full time? Just asking, because I don't think any one of us know how or why they rank these teams the way they do.
I'll show you....I would have said the reason there are 4 Texas teams and 1 Ohio team is because Texas has far more depth than almost all the states, with the exception of California and Florida....and Texas has better talent and it shows in the recruiting. And the media, scouts, college coaches, fans and just about anyone who knows anything about football. The passion and the tenacity is bread down here! Example: the best players to come out of California are suiting up at USC, Cal and UCLA......our best players are suiting up at all but 3 of the top 25 teams in college football. (And obviously Texas colleges.)
Again, I have know idea why they rank the way they do...but that's my guess!

Trinity isnt either and they're (3-0) and beat Tyler Lee in Tyler.
Trinity should be in the National #25. No doubt.
I saw the Bellevue Washinton team play Long Beach Poly this weekend (Friday night). That team is also pretty darn good and they run the Wing-T better then any team I've ever seen. A machine..

You were almost correct except for the fact that every Top 25 team except Purdue has a player from California. So since California has players on 24 of the top 25 and Texas only has players on 22 of the 25 does that mean California produces more talent than Texas??? Do they have more tenacity and passion??? :D

You would really have to look at those Top #25 teams and the amount of scholarship players ( State) and 2-deep rosters and where they're from.
I mean the RB for Cal that won the game for them over Illinious is a Texas kid-Justin Forsett. Their already saying his going to be a Pac-10 star.
I'm sure if you looked at the scholarship players and 2-deep rosters on the National #25 teams. You would have Texas, Fla and Cal pretty much neck and neck.

Actually I did check the rosters for Cal and Florida just to compare to the number the other guy put in his post. California has players on 24 of the 25 Purdue being the only one without. Florida had players on 18 of the 25. Now I don't know if they all produce or not but since he threw that number out I thought it would be interesting to compare the three just to see.

Only from the experience of playing football for 23 years. (HS, College, Pro) I've played against and with numerous Californians. They even admit, football isn't life in Cali....Track and Field is. They are intrigued with the myth of Texas Football.
Again, that's just from experience. As far as fans...I have no idea, personally.
Oh and I think it was either 2002 or 2003 that showed, at the time, Texas had at least 3 players from the lonestar state on 23 of the top 25 college football programs. The closest was Florida with at least 1 player on 8 of the top 25 teams. Cali was next with 5. Now it's much closer, but Texas still continues to thrive producing more top recruits.
*Note: I don't want to admit this but we aslo have more athletes, then any other state, that are found ineligible to compete by way of the NCAA Clearing House. Makes sense because we have more schools and more prospects, but its a ridiculus %, like 12% or something, of our nationally recruited athletes. (As of 2003) That ends up being alot of players without big time scholarships.

We (Texas) do have alot of athletes that dont meet Clearinghouse standards. It is a little bloody nose for us.
For the last 4 or 5 years ( I cant remember exactly). I've looked at the rosters of the Final AP #25 teams.
Every year except one.. Texas was the leading State for the amount of players on those top #25 teams. California edged Texas last season with like 12 more players.
Like 3 years (2002) ago it wasnt even close. Texas had like 100 more players over the 2nd place State which I think was Florida that year..
PS. I lived in California for 4 years. I went to about 15 HS games over that span. Nothing like Texas.. not even close. Also your right. The kids were more interested in going and doing alot of other things.

I think the "Texas football thing" is a little biased in the minds of only those of us who post on boards like this one. Football is NOT on every kids mind in this state. Sure, by shear numbers, we have a lot that are, but I'll bet if you took the number of kids in Texas high schools and divided them into the number of football players you'd be very surprised at the percentage. The statement about Cali kids having a lot of other things to do is not reserved just for California kids.
