That Gillespie has verbally agreed to a contract extension with Texas A & M until 2012. My understanding is he will make around $2 million a year with many perks I am sure. I also heard that they will be building a new basketball arena to replace Reed. Nothing but good news as far as I am concerned.:D

Reed is way too new. Reed was opened in '98. Best you can do is hope for some improvements and outside of the practice facility and new scoreboards/video screens, that just aint gonna happen. jtk has long thought that Texas basketball should move back to Gregory Gymnasium for most of it's games and jtk thinks aggy would be wise to move back to G. Rollie White. jtk thinks it would awesome to cram 5,000 into Gregory for a game rather than have 16,000 at a cavernous place like the FEC.

The part about adding to Reed Arena is true. They're adding new practice facilities, medical facilities, and offices. Construction starts Monday.

Be sure and let them know the nails go in pointy end first. And if a hurricane is coming put the boards on the outside.

I caught the back end of that report on the news last night. Is it the one they were saying was going to cost 20 mil?

Follow-up reports confirm the Arkansas rumors were started by Bob Gillespie, Billy's brother, pretending to be Frank Broyles.

"I fooled 'em good" said Gillespie.

Maybe the dead dogs are bored with A&M losing to Tech in football and want to check out basketball instead!:p

When I was late for the game last year, I appreciated a scoreboard outside!:D

Judging it purely as a facility and leaving out who plays there, how can you not? jtk also loves Gallagher-Iba and would love to see Gregory Gym expanded to 10,000+ for the basketball team, but that's probably not possible... not without some serious structural work.

BTW, if you want to know how to build a college basketball arena, look at UVa's new John Paul Jones Arena.

Gillispie balks at A&M deal

COLLEGE STATION — At the end of another bizarre day in Texas A&M's quest to lock down basketball coach Billy Gillispie, school officials delayed an announcement of a new contract agreement after receiving indications from Gillispie that he wants to keep open his options for the most tantalizing of current job openings — Kentucky.

According to sources close to the situation, Gillispie late in the day balked at verbally agreeing to a new contract placed before the A&M board of regents for approval on Thursday. Under the new contract, Gillispie's base salary would jump from $1.25 million to around $1.6 million per year.

The school had hoped to announce the new deal Thursday afternoon and put to rest nearly a week of speculation about Gillispie's intentions to stay at A&M.

The day's maneuverings kept the uncertainty alive for A&M fans, but brought a week of drama at Arkansas to an end.

According to reports, the Razorbacks elected to drop pursuit of Gillispie after being informed by athletic director Bill Byrne around noon on Thursday that Gillispie, who is in Atlanta for the Final Four, was accepting the new contract offer at A&M and was staying put.

Curiously, according to reports, Byrne contacted Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles around 10 a.m. on Thursday to grant his permission for the Razorbacks to talk to Gillispie.

Following the A&M regents meeting, A&M officials prepared a statement to acknowledge the new contract and announce Gillispie's acceptance of the deal. Around 7 p.m., the announcement plans were scrapped

Torbush. Kentucky could offer him $2 million and they would be paying less than what they paid Tubby. $1.6 million is nothing to sneeze at. That would put him among the top 5 highest paid in the Big XII... maybe top 3, but his refusal of that money makes jtk think he may be looking elsewhere or trying to leverage more money from Dollar Bill.

Yeah, we have quite a few construction science majors, but our department of architecture is pretty full too from what I hear.
