Here is a thread that Lufkin or Southlake cannot possibly win or feature. What is the best multi school city (with at least two 5A High Schools) or ISD when it comes to 5A Football? A number come to mind – Midland, Tyler, Odessa or Lubbock perhaps, could even be Abilene. Plano is a possibility. Garland perhaps. Let me know your thoughts.

Wouldn't it be Katy...? With what? 8 or 9 High Schools, and Katy just keeps on keepin on...

Over the past decade - I'd say Tyler and Abilene - as all four schools have made deep runs in some form or fashion.

That's a tough one specifically talking about 5A football because the vast majority of state titles have come from metropolitan areas with continuously increasing populations. 17 out of the 46 total 5A titles ever handed out reside in the DFW area.

This was made prior to the end of 2006 so SLC's and CH's '06 titles aren't labeled. 42 of the remaining 44 teams that can lay any claim to a 5A State Title are visible by individual year on the map. The 2 missing labels are the Plano 1986 and 1994 champs. There are actually placemarks there for them but there are too many markers clumped together in too small of an area for the labels to show up. The multiple markers visible in the San Antonio area appear to be several different locations but are actually just representing Converse Judson six times over, and their neighbor to the west SA Roosevelt once.

If you're going purely by two or more schools with 5A titles (since 1980) in the same ISD and city, Beaumont (West Brook and French) and Tyler (JT and Lee) are the only actual cities that can claim that. Going back further you have to include Odessa and several more including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus and Austin. Of the big 3, San Antonio has both Houston and Dallas beat in largest classification titles as Lee, Roosevelt, Churchill, Brackenridge and Jefferson have all won titles, although how many different ISDs is that?

Aldine ISD has had three of its four schools make it to the state championship game within 10-15 years of each other. That says something, even though they have fallen off recently. In the 90s Aldine won in 90, MacArthur lost to Lewisville in 93 and IKE, well all those years they lost to Judson, and then they lost to Midland Lee in 2000 or 2001, I can't remember.

GCISD has Grapevine and Colleyville High School. Both made playoffs, with Grapevine winning bi-district and Colleyville makeing the quarter-finals. not too bad if you ask me.

Lubbock ISD has seen success but recently, it hasn't been on the football field. Bi-district games were against the LSWC powers. The last time an LISD school won state was in 1968 when Lub. Estacado won at the 3A level. Lubbock High was the last time an LISD school won state at the highest classification (1952). Lub. Monterey made it to the state semifinals in 1976 and Lub. Estacado made it to the 4A title game in 1983. That's the closest any LISD school has been to HS title glory.

Now in other sports and UIL events, LISD has done good. Monterey is great at baseball and won a state title in girls basketball in the 80's. Coronado at girls softball and basketball. The Lady Mustangs have good playoff runs in volleyball as well. Estacado at baseball and basketball. Lubbock High is good at academic conpetitions.

The 265 consits of:

CISD - Smithson Valley
JISD - Judson, Wagner
NEISD - Madison, Churchill, MacArthur, Reagan, Lee, Roosevelt

Side Note: Smithson Valley is in a two horse district right now with 4A NB Canyon, but CISD is building Lake-High, and NEISD is building Johnson-High right now.

Lewisville ISD beats most.

Lewisville state champs in 93 and 96
Marcus state champs in 97 and runner up in 95
Hebron state champs in 2005.

Please shoe me any district that had 2 schools 3 miles apart reach title games in 4 of 5 years winning 3 of those. With deep runs in the years they didnt make the state finals.

Midland has two high schools and three championships, Abilene has two highschools and about 6 championships, San Angelo Only has 1 5-A but two state championships and Odessa has two 5-A and 7 championships. So they can't standup to multi highschool citys in championships like D-FW or the Houston area. But if you combined the population of what is called the LSWC then a population of around 440,000 has produced about 18 state championships. Thats a average of 1 state title for every 24,400 people. How would that compare to all the city power houses?

Dang, just like the Marines, All we need is a few good men. I love high school football and I love West Texas, A whole other country.

Permian and Odessa High school are three miles apart and since 1960 they have been to the final game 11 times and won the state game 6 times they have played in the semi- final game 15 times and I guess won 11 of them, they have played in the quarter finals 19 times and I guess won 15 of them they played in the regionals 20 times and I guess won 19 of them, they have been to Area 10 times.

They had strings of being in semi-final games in 77-78, 84-85, 87-88-89. A portion of these years were when only the top distict team advanced to the playoffs. They had one loss seasons in 61,67,69,71.

Thats probably no record but it's a lot better than average, that is, for two highschools 3 miles apart.

If you consider all classes Mitlan Lee and Mitlans private schools may have a better record than any one's but I don't speak for them. Either their Trinity or Christian School seems like they kill every one every year. These schools are also within the three mile limit.

Dude, since 1960 Odessa High has accounted for zero of those titles and title apperances. In fact diding they go something like 37 years without makingthe playoffs until 1997?
All the success and I mean all of it since Odessa has become a two horse town has been by Permian. Same with Midland and Lee all the success has been enjouyed by Midland Lee.
In Lewisville we had two different schools 3 miles apart make 2 title game apperances in winning 3 of those.

Klein got spanked by Lufkin that is what they did. Anybody who comes in 2nd in 16-5a and then gets their as%^&% handed to them for the worst beat down in Texas High school History deserves to be on the list. Give credit where credit is due.

A little humor on Friday afternoon is cool right?

Klein Oak went deep in the playoffs this year. Klein Forest is always a contenda and Klein Collins went deep several years ago.

The Klein Freshmen class of 2010 is something...never mind I wont go there.

Ok I give. That was way too easy for you.

Now if what we are really asking is: "If there are 2 high schools in close proximity to each other (by way of expansion or a split) and they have won State titles should they be on the list and who are they"? In that case Klein should not be.

How about a different approach. If Klein Collins, Klein Oak or Klein Forest combined with Klein IMO they would be a powerhouse. I would say they would be in contention every year for a State title. In Klein ISD they have very tight rules on boundaries and who can or can't attend which school. So when Klein Collins was built Klein Oak had to be moved down to 4a.

Soutlake Carrol is in a very unique position as is Lufkin and others. Only one School for the kids in the area. You have to be very wealthy to attend SLC by nature of their community. If you can't afford the housing in the area you don't attend the school. Almost a Private school setting. Lufkin is in the Country and only one School for all of those athletes. so you see where I am going.

Westfield will be split into 2 next year with the new High School. I do not believe thay will be anywhere near the strength they are now.

well having janitors spend countless hours cleaning up something is pointless.

and you do realize each of our HS are fairly small in size. its like have a big campus and then the freshman campus. same thing. Senior High didnt have room to build, so they just built a new campus.
