I thought I was reading the comical...Chronicle that thinks life ends at 4A.
here is the link to see 3A and below.

It still chaps me that this happens in the papers. Even some of us that live in the "big city" now, came from small towns, and want to see how they are doing in the POs or state rankings.
WOS, i kknow it ain't personal, because you left your own school's class out too.

How many points are given out for football? Im guessing a lot since Carroll and Westlake are 1 and 2.

Each sport has a weighted value with escalating points the further you go in competitions. Carroll won state in Football, Girls cross country, placed 2nd in boys cross country and generally wins district in most sports. They also perform well in the academic, band and other competitions which are all part of the Lone Star Cup...so it's not all about football. Usually you see the well rounded schools like The Woodlands, Kingwood, Carroll and others who are good at almost all of the categories, who do well.

So, no, to get the points indicated by the current standings, you have to do a whole lot more than just play football well. Only16 of Carroll's points are attributable to football.

i wish they would release a complete list of schools and not just the top 10. It'd be interesting to see how all the other schools stack up.

SLC received 16 points for football. 4 points for the district title and 2 points for each playoff victory.
Westlake received 12 points for football. 2 points for a playoff berth and 2 points for each playoff win.
As a side note, I believe SLC has the two highest point totals ever awarded in the Lone Star Cup. In 2000-01 they earned 136 points which was a record at the time. In 2001-02 they earned 150 points which broke their record from the previous year. Both of these were in 4A. I'd bet Highland Park was glad to see SLC moved up to 5A so they could start winning the 4A cup again. :D :D

4 points for advancing to area (for band)?
what about UIL concert band...1st band is insane, and usually complete the sweepstakes (1's in marching band and concert band at UIL)

If that pattern holds, then Carroll will come in second for, what, the fourth year in a row?

Not sure, but I know Kingwood boys and girls soccer will both get to the state semifinals more than likely, with the boys having a pretty good chance to win state. Their baseball team will get a few rounds deep in the playoffs I'm sure. Their track team stinks though. Are the academic team points already in? They will do well in those too if those are still to come.

In soccer Kingwood has to go through Klein to win State and you know how that turned out in 2005.

Kingwood, even though the football program is lacking, is always in the running for this award. They've won it several times.

I have no idea how it turned out in 2005. lol
I'm no Kingwood fan. I just know that Kingwood is something to the tune of 25-1-1 on the year. Klein is region 2 anyways if I'm not mistaken, so if Klein takes them out it will be in the state championship game as I predicted.

5-0 Klein over Kingwood in 2005. It more than likely will happen again this year. Klein and Kingwood = Soccer in the State of Texas.
Chad Bauman the Senior Running back (along side Horrace) for Klein leads the Bearkat Soccer program. He got full Scholly to play soccer for SMU. Horrace is playing Baseball for Klein in lieu of running track. Stollen bases are his expertise, imagine that.

After soccer, Kingwood and Westlake are both poised to pass Southlake Carroll. It should be a very close battle between those three schools.

Carroll's boys and girls are now both out of the soccer playoffs, so no more points there. However, the golf teams are doing pretty well.

Both their boys and girls are in the regional finals. They could win state in both. I think the boys have a much better chance though.

Yes, Kingwood is playing for the regional championships in both the boys and girls' soccer playoffs. Westlake boys just lost in the regional semi-finals, girls are playing for regional champions. But winning state in soccer, as great as that is, won't clinch the Lone Star Cup for anyone because there are so many components to it. Westlake's baseball and softball teams should both be in the playoffs this year, the one act play has advanced beyond district, and like the other top schools, academics usually earn us a lot of points. Kudos to all the top schools for promoting excellence in all areas.

Yeah, the first thing I thought of when I saw the list was, "Where are 1A-3A?"
It's also good to see Holliday doing like normal (Previous champion in 2A) and holding down 5th in 2A. Archer County has 3 schools and 2 of them are in the Top 10 lists. Archer City would do better if they weren't always stoned!:p

I'm out n Florida, but I know that Carroll is also in Regional track meets, both boys and girls, but I don't know about Tennis and golf, both normally strong sports for Carroll, and ones that we have past state titles in. Also Carroll is in first place in Baseball for the district, but not good this year at Softball.

Carroll will do very well and will hopefully win state titles in individual events in track this year by both the boys and the girls. However, the Dragons strength is in the distance events. We have some decent sprinters, but I don't think there is much of an opportunity to win any of the relays run at he stat meet. If they ran a distance medly, then Caroll might have a chance. Alas, no Lone Star Cup points for individual titles in track. Boys and girls golf both won district and should do well at Regions. Same for the tennis teams for both the boys and the girls. As I recall, half of those advancing from 5-5A are Carroll playes in tennis.

Maybe, but Kingwood won in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005. So, that's 5 out of the 8 years that it's been in existence.
When it comes to the Lone Star Cup, it's Kingwood's world and everyone else is just paying rent.
