No offense to Baylor - I would have encouraged him to look at Vandy with that eye-popping GPA - but, always good to see them stay in Texas. He was a good soph. last year, but I think the weather (and our D) flustered him a bit.

I'm not going to say that there is nothing of value in low-income minority neighborhoods (the ghetto). There are a lot of fine people there, and most of them are working their tails off to try to make things better.

If someone from a mostly white school said, "We like to beat-up on those poor, thug, black kids" the freaking World would come to a freaking stop and there would be counseling for everyone and blah blah blah with someone threatening a freaking lawsuit somewhere.

Both comments are equally insulting and both are very sterotyping with tones of underlying discrimination and racism in them.

While there are portions of both ethnic groups the respective comments apply to, with one group it is a choice, and for the other it is a situation that they cannot necessarily control. There lies the difference, I think.

I know the family. Both parents went to Baylor as well as an older brother. The Bears do not have to worry about this young man not fulfilling his commitment. After talking with his family, there is a high probability that Florence will graduate in December and enroll at BU in January of '08.

Florence is the first of a good number of GISD athletes who will go on to play D1 ball from the '08 class.

Congrats to Baylor on a top quality recruit. Congrats to Florence for getting a quality education paid for.
