As we discussed here a few weeks back - the latest stock market downturn was my fault because I bought some stock. Well....one thing has led to another - and the subprime Mortgage market is folding like a cheap card table -and Ameriquest Field in Arlington is no more because Ameriquest was a horrific mortgage company that will probably go belly-up.
Your Texas Rangers now play at Ranger Ballpark - hooray!
You can thank me later - or now.

Why didn't they just go back to the original name "The Ballpark in Arlington"?

And this is a good thing. These "sub-prime" lenders were refinancing poor people's homes at darn near loan-shark rates. Literally, you probably could have gotten a better deal with your local "made guy".
What's worse is that Ameriquest (and others) used near textbook bait and switch scams-- in some instances promising annual interest hikes of no more than a percent, then turning around and hiking as much as 2% over six months. Folks would get left holding these mortages and owing upwards of 10% interest. At least with your local loan shark you know he is a userer up front. Ameriquest had to settle for hundreds of millions of dollars in a multi-state law suit.
There does need to be some mechanism for "sub-prime" borrowers to get access to credit, but not access from predatory lenders who are in actuality hoping for a foreclosure. These outfits chose to extend bad loans, now they are reaping the consequences. Good to see them go, and good to see one less corporate ball park.
And to think that our Republican legislature gave us the "gift" of home equity loans in Texas. Now uninformed people have the "right" to risk losing their homes for the sake of cash now. One of the worst things our state government has ever done, that ammendment.

I agree. It is insane. Too many tools out there for people to dig their financial graves...:(
