It would be very hard to get a better education than Northwestern's. They are also in the big ten so you get the chance to play in front of thousands of people and will get a fair amount of your games on TV. Northwestern is an excellent academic institution and if I were this kid I would jump on this opportunity immediately

CONGRATULATIONS TO JOE !!!!! It is extremely hard to get good offers from D1 schools when your team record and offense doesn't showcase much. I believe that the QB that played two years ago at Bell, Chase Holbrooke, is redshirting at New Mexico State under Hal Mumme. Way to go JOE

How many of you that are putting down Northwestern have or had a better offer to play QB in college somewhere else?

Could not have posed a better question myself. Some posters (I assume they're teenagers) make comments that are not well thought out.

He has letters from Northwestern in front of his locker every day. They seem to really want to have him.

Northwestern has been a Big10 doormat for years but at times they have had some great years. In the 90's they went to the Rose Bowl one year. They are much improved team this year and they have a good passing offense. This is an honor to get an offer from a Big10, Big12, ACC, SEC, Pac10 school no matter which school it is in that conference. Any div1a scholarship is big but when you get one from the great conferences it is even bigger. They only have so many scholarships and they selectively pick all around the USA. He should be proud!! He will be playing in front of 70-105 thou in any given week. Big 10 stadiums are huuuge.

No kiddin'. Their football program may not be stellar, but a degree from Northwestern packs a punch. They don't give full rides to dumb jocks either.
Congrats.

Well said---NU is a Big Ten Institution that has Ivy League Standards for admission. To play the competition of the Big Ten, and walk out with a degree from NU speakes volumes. They're not as bad as you think--they beat Ohio State last year.

NU may not be Michigan or Ohio St. But they've put together some pretty stout teams over the last few years. Going to play football there and then getting that "paper" from there aint bad. Doing it on a football scholarship tops the cake (IMO).

It appears as though Mauro might be picking up an offer from one of the top programs in the nation. Wilcatreport.com is reporting that The University of Texas is close to offering...

"Bedford (TX) L.D. Bell quarterback Joe Mauro says that Northwestern has always been at or near the top of his list of colleges, even before he picked up an offer from the school on Tuesday. And the 6-foot-4, 199-pounder got more good news this week, as he found out that Texas may be close to offering him."

Personally I would not go to Texas. Too much competition, with Sherrod Harris & Friends already making commitments there. It seems that 25 of the top quarterbacks go there, making it tough. It would be an easier path at Northwestern.

What competition? After VY, there are only two scholarship QBs on the Texas roster and one of them is a senior. There are a lot of question marks surrounding Harris so really, Mauro's biggest competition would be just Colt McCoy. Texas is WAY too thin at QB to have "competiton" be one of the reasons why a QB decides to go elsewhere.
