this guy is persian and he believes the movie 300 destroys any persians reputation...
my problem w/ this guy:
1-he says the persains didnt wear the cloth wrapped in layers and only arabs did....at that time persia stretched across iraq and iran so he can stop there
2-he believes the movie makes persians look bad...well duh its a movie focusing on 300 spartans battle/story of course it will make them look like the bad guys
3-he contradicts himself. he says that the movie was border line racist and then at the end he calls it racism straight up..
4-theres more i can say on this guy not knowing the entire background of how the story got started and who to blame...dont blame the direcot he got this from the comic book which he did a great job of doing this pretty much frame by frame...the movie was based on a movie based on a comic book...he needs to get his facts straight

that's not contradicting one'self. He didn't change his feeling, he just said it different. I haven't seen the movie and my sound isn't working on the computer so i really can't give any input about him but all i have to say is: Freedom of speech, we can make whatever movie we want and it doesn't matter if it hurts anyones feelings. So I guess westerns are racist against Indians?
Or WWII movies are racist against Germans?
We should only make movies with sexually and racially ambiguous characters so as not to offend anyone.

Iraq was a part of the Persian Empire, but the natives were not Persians, but Arabs.
Iran was the historical center of the Persian empire, and the locals there are not and never have been Arabs. They are Persian.
They would have dressed differently from each other, spoken different languages, etc.

i understand this but he clearly says that the persians did not wrap themselves in this cloth...arabs did that and at the time the persian empire stretched across into arabian land

MANN, TELL ME ABOUT IT! When Xerxes put his hands on his shoulders when he stood behind him, I thought to myself "Okay, this movie is over for me!". Then, dude had his eyebrows shaved off and drawn back on like a female, and that really did it. One more thing about Xerxes, how tall was that cat?

This is about the 3rd Greek-Persian War. You have 300 Spartans plus allies holding off 40,000-60,000(depending on which historian you believe) Persians and the Persians through a Spartan traitor were able to finally defeat them.
In the 2nd Greek-Persian War, the results were even more humilating for the Persians. The Greeks, without the Spartans, were outnumbered 2 to 1. When the battle ended the Greeks lost 192 while the Persians lost 6,400. Reasons: Greeks had better military strategy and the Persians were physically inferior.
The guys is an idiot which is probably a compliment to his intelligence. Let's make another movie about the 2nd war on the plains of Marathon and really show the how bad the Persians were against the Greeks, then follow that with a rerun of Alexander the Great and how he conquered the Persians in a relatively short time span.

a few things:
1-this guy made a differant video or comment im not sure which stating he didnt care much for the battle of marathon which was a major turning pt in the war...it was like the alamo for texans, it was an inspiration...
2- he believed that the persians won the battle aganst the 300 soldiers...i did about 5 mins of research and looked on his own wilkepdia link and found out this:
the spartans main goal w/ these 300 ppl plus allies was to give the greek navy some time to fall back and collect supplies such as weapons, food, water, and more soldiers for an attack...they held there ground and successfully accomplished this...he believes the persians won which is asinine cuz again bringing this up the alamo wasnt a texas defeat it was a moral victory...at the end of this movie it shows the spartans being led for the final attack against persia still outnumbered (the king said 3 to 1 these r good numbers if ur a spartan)
3- there r many differant historians that say differant things...some say 1-2 million ppl vs 300 and the others say bout 50k ppl...i believe more of 50k cuz to fit 1 million on that small of a land is a bit improbable (the movie says 300 against a million to make it seem like a bigger struggle and obstacle)
4- i wouldnt call him an idiot cuz he knos his history but i do think his opinions r terrible

Thermopylae was the 2nd Greco-Persian war. There was no third, unless you are talking about Alexander's conquest.
1. The first "war" had its turning point at the battle of Marathon. Basically, the Athenians beat a small Persian excursionary force.
2. There were approximatly 7,000 allies at Thermopylae, including 300 full Spartan peer hoplites and probably about 900-1000 support forces from Sparta-- freed helots and "neighbors" who were not Spartan peers (voting citizens). The rest were allied troops from places like Thebes and Thespia.
3. The best estimate for the Persian force is far more than 50,000. Most estimates are that around 250,000-300,000 Persian soldiers crossed Xerxes floating bridge over the Hellespont into Greece on this campaign.

The 250K - 500K numbers are the ones put up by several of the experts on The History Channel's look at this battle. Good one to watch if you catch it. Not being more than just aware of the battle, I learned a lot from their take on the battle, it's origins and it's aftermath.

The first war never rally developed, but most historians contend that there were 3 Greek-Persians wars. The 1st war was in 490BC when Darius conquered Macedonia and Thrace after putting down a Greek rebellion in Miletus in Asia Minor. He wanted to teach the Greeks a lesson for meddling in Persians affairs within his empire. He didn't continue his trek towards Greece because he lost most of his navy due to a storm in the Aegean Sea. Then two years later was the 2nd Greek-Persian war on the Plains of Marathon, and the third in 480BC was the Battle at Thermopylae which bought time for Athens to abandon the city and eventually defeat Persia and its navy at the Battle of Salamis. I won't call him an idiot, but his opinions are idiotic.

this number is probably accurate because of all the people that died in the waters before the main battle

I saw the movie yesterday and thought it was amazing visually. I think Gladiator and Braveheart still rank in front of it because they had much more developed storylines to go along with the great action. I saw some innovative things in 300, so I definitely liked that part of it.

Braveheart and Gladiator were over 3 hours long, so the highly developed story made the fighting that much more epic. I think 300 could have done the same, but that obviously wasn't the intent. I believe it was pretty much intended to be a "B" flick with its hour and a half length, and not necessarily something for the Academy.
300 was a very good movie that could have been truly great in my opinion if more attention was paid to the storyline. I didn't seem nearly as epic and powerful as Gladiator and Braveheart because it didn't really take the time to be. It thrusts right into the fighting, and there isn't much else that happens with the story.

it was also based on a comic book and after seeing the comic book the director or whoever moved this from the bookto the movie did a great job of transferring it from each panel...he had almost every lil detail done....i kno mb it was intended to be a B flick but the previews r so good its an A flick that destroyed the box office the past 2 wks

Most definitely. There have been quite a few movies like that to do very well at the box office. They know what people like, and the hour and a half length means more showings and more $$$. Of course, with DVDs coming out as fast as they are these days it won't probably have the longevity at the box office.
Theaters won't start cleaning up until we completely get rid of celluloid and digital theaters become commonplace. Theaters, for the most part, are stuck in time. Technology is moving a lot faster than they can keep up. Most people have much better home movie systems now than anything they could experience at your average cinema.

There's nothing better than seeing a long-awaited movie at the theatre. The previews, the popcorn, the whole thing....I love to go to the movies. I just love to get out of my house in general, and one of the better things to do is catch a flick. Even if it's not a particularly good movie, you never feel like you wasted too much of your time and money....you at least got to go out on a date.
If I rent or buy a mediocre movie, I feel like I absolutely wasted my time and money.

i honestly know what you mean.
Last year when a stranger calls came out, the theater was full of prepubescent kids from all over the city. I already knew something was up cause the manager had came and strictly said " if you kids don't settle down I'm kicking everyone out, and there will be no refunds" and this was before the movie started.
Okay so the movie starts, and it's pretty quiet. But the initial minute they first show the killer they scream. It was cute and funny the first time... Then they should his face again, and they all screamed. Slightly amusing then they all started screaming every time his face was shown... And it got real annoying real fast. After that day I only went to movies past 9:00 since most kid's are home by then, and now no longer have to deal with the ghetto children.

I can see why the video critic didn't like it... But I really could care less about the "picking on the persian" perspective... All I could think of when Queenie was laying the rules out for the King was "Hummm, now they'll see the mother of all battles"...
Oh, and you know the part where that giant dude is released from the chains... Fights the King... he's on top of him drooling, face to face... and the King reaches for the knife... BEEP, BEEP... screen goes black, fire alarm goes off... I kid you not! False alarm, but when we get back in the theatre did they rewind any... Heck no! I missed that part...

Hey whoever said accuracy and factual evidence had anything to do with going to war?
Sincerely,
George Bush

Actually that one wasnt really about accuracy but about trust. We trusted Russia and our secret agencies which our secret agencies got most of their info from Russia, but we trusted Russia when they said there were "weapons of mass destruction".
I hope i just didnt hijack this thread.
